Just saw first crack and turns out, my eyes did not deceive me when I saw SPP in the middle. He brought some physicality and energy in the middle and was a bull.

I don't see why Port would not explore SPP in the middle again considering Port are 17th in clearances compared to last year when they were 4th. I would also expect personnel changes in the middle as well with Sweet expected to get omitted for Visentini among other expected changes.

Whateley mentioned this evening that the best punishment for Rioli would be a suspended sentence, hopefully that's the AFL soft launching the penalty

Since the game got more flowy, the big bodied mid is way less important, ie Wines, Drew and SPP.

SPP isn’t that clean with his disposal, bit like Jones (who they tried in there a while back), but has some ticker I guess.

I’d actually get Bergman in there with BZT back. The way this season is going, if Bergman evolved into a decent mid, that would be a win (and if needed inflate his trade value).

At 30 years old, I actually think Wines hasn’t got too much left too. I reckon he would be perfect for a Tasmania playing/coaching role.

It really makes you wonder why Port even bothered pursuing two rucks in the same trade period with only a two year difference and the draft assets needed to acquire him. Bad choice.
It was a bit weird at the time.

We were desperate for rucks though because Hinkley hadn't developed any of value.

While we got Sweet on a good price, the bad part is that we overpaid for Soldo who seemed to be a B grader, damaged goods and getting on.

But you do those things when you are desperate.

Sweet was basically a freebie. But hadn’t proven anything at afl level at the time. So I can see why they targeted Soldo considering he had actually shown a bit at afl level but was just behind their captain in Nank.

It was also a future second and then some exchanging of later picks. It was bad but not catastrophic, at the beginning it actually looked like a decent trade but Soldo got injured, lost his spot and has seemingly lost all drive to win it back now.

Yes we could've got someone decent with that second rounder but look at the dogs with JUH, a recent number 1 pick that is a bust, you can never be sure and at the time we really needed a ruckman. A picking Sweet alone would've been a gamble as he was unproven and Dante wasn't ready.

I'd play Georgiades, Lord and Finlayson in defence on Tex, Thilthorpe and Fogarty. Hopefully they can teach them all some leading patterns...
Leading patterns are not the issue. All 3 of their forwards are bigger, stronger, have football smarts and are great kicks at goal. If I had to rate that list of 6 forwards it would be as follows:

  • Thilthorpe
  • Fogarty
  • Walker
  • MG
-----
Daylight
-----
  • Lord
  • Finlayson

People will argue that MG should be ahead of Tex, but I disagree. Tex at his age still impacts the game more than MG and is a reliable set shot, where MG is still a piss blaster.

MG has all the tools however he really needs to sharpen up in general play, holding marks, set shots etc. otherwise he'll just be remembered as a guy with talent.

Agreed. I still am a very strong believer that he isn't fit enough. He looks gassed so early in every game. After quarter time he looks so heavy in the legs. Would love to see a stat on how often he falls over chasing a ground ball, I swear it happens so often.

he looks gassed because he runs himself into the ground. Would be one of the fittest on the list.

So how is it looking for the game
Visentini in for Sweet?
Boak in for Berry?
Sinn in for Rioli?

I know they aren't like for like but it seems like the most obvious 3 ins and outs i could think of.

Ins: BZT, Jackson, Visentini, Boak, Sinn

Outs: Finlayson, Sweet, Mead, Rioli, Evans

F: Berry…..Georgiades…….SPP

HF: Richards……Lord……DBJ

C: Burgoyne……Bergman…..Lorenz

HB: Farrell……Aliir…….Rozee

B: Jones……Ratugolea…….BZT

R: Visentini……JHF…..Butters

Int: Wines……Drew…..Sinn…..Jackson

Sub: Boak

JHF to rest forward more thanks to inclusion of Bergman into midfield rotations

Ratugolea to be second ruck, during which Jase Burgoyne to roll back and Jackson to wing

I'm tipping the crows comfortably our only glimmer of hope is that Nicksy is still Coaching the crows and he is Ken 2.0.
The crows will make the same mistake as us and hang on to nicks too long he is a dud coach like Ken and who only beats the struggling teams and gets found out by the better teams and better coaches.

Port have a 5 W 4 L record v Nicks. Considering where Adelaide have been on the ladder in that time, only 5 wins is as pathetic as Hinkley's coaching.
