If the forecast of showers proves correct then you'd hope we learned a bit from yesterday, but with an actual clown coaching us I'm not holding my breath.

If I'm Nicks, I'm not going to risk the health of my players by demanding a bloodbath. The crows will win by plenty and stay in 2nd gear.

I'd be tempted to play Charleson. He has good goal sense, physically is ready to go and loves being a pest.

It's funny, wasn't that long ago I was ready to delist him but he's shown a bit this year.

There are probably numerous other Showdowns as good or better at summing up Stinkley's record than this one, but because it was not far removed from Adelaide being the laughingstock of the AFL, it stands out to me.

Showdown 50. The 2nd Showdown of 2021. 4th placed Port vs the reigning wooden spooners in 16th.

The lone Showdown in 2020 had whet my appetite again. We smashed them by 75 points in shortened quarters. There was eagerness for more - perhaps some payback for the numerous disasters Adelaide had inflicted late last decade?

Nope, that was as good as it was going to get. Here, by half time we had managed 1.5 to 4.6. Adelaide led all night until Port finally hit the front with 9 minutes left and eventually clung on to an inglorious 4 point win. Aliir Aliir saved us with 10 intercept marks and won the Showdown Medal.

Now for a bit more context:
  • Pre-game odds I found: Port $1.08, Adelaide $8.00
  • Captain Taylor Walker was not playing due to suspension for his racist comment.
  • A selection of luminaries we faced that night:
Brayden Cook (debut)
Ben Davis (Career: 0 wins, 4 losses)
Will Hamill (5-20)
Elliott Himmelberg (9-17)
Chayce Jones (7-29)
Ned McHenry with 2 goals (6-21)
Andrew McPherson (7-18)
Lachlan Murphy (22-35)
Harry Schoenberg (9-19)

When asked for his view prior to the start of the 3rd quarter, our coach said the line: "Ah it's pretty fundamental it's pretty simple, we're just being outworked a bit."

By this point you'd had nearly 9 years to work that issue out you muppet.

Apart from 2020-2021, I've dreaded Showdowns ever since this arsekicking in Don Pyke's first Showdown on a warm April day in 2016.

He looked good today. I reckon it's a good move playing him and Whitlock. We've got nothing to lose.
Don’t mind Ramm coming in but probably not the right game for Whitlock though he does deserve an opportunity.
Conditions probably suit defenders over forwards.

Just not sure getting umpteen goals kicked on him by the three prong bogan crows forward line is great for a kid in an AFL debut.
Next minute he takes 15 intercept marks and is Sam Taylor over night… those GWS defenders didn’t seem to turn out too bad when they were taken to the cleaners.

If you prepare the ‘kid’ correctly, take whatever he gives and don’t bake him on deficiencies, he may just surprise. Tell him he has 3 games to get up to speed before we are going to genuinely work on Bettering his game. Heck that’s the precedent the board have set this year giving Hinkley the last 23 games!

Expectations, ‘we’ expect Fogarty to kick 15 goals on you, go out there and exceed expectations…

B: Burgoyne - Zerk-Thatcher - Ramm
HB: Farrell - Aliir - Rozee (C)

FOLL: Sweet - Bergman - Butters
INT: Whitlock - Lai - Boak - Charleson
SUB: Berry
EMG: Finlayson - Drew - Moraes

INS/OUTS:
IN: Harrison Ramm OUT: Logan Evans (Omitted)
IN: Connor Rozee OUT: Josh Sinn (Omitted)
IN: Willie Rioli OUT: Jackson Mead (Omitted)
IN: Jack Whitlock OUT: Ollie Lord (Omitted)

IN: Joe Berry OUT: Willem Drew (Omitted)

Yep 4 debutants is probably one too many but I don’t give a damm. Reward Ramm and Whitlock’s SANFL games. 19 marks combined so give them an opportunity. Yes Ramm will get thrown to the wolves against Walker, Fogarty and Thilthorpe but I’d rather Ramm on one of them rather than it be Logan Evans or Lachie Jones who have been playing as that 3rd hybrid tall defender.

Don’t care get Willie in. His confidence looked better and he looked better physically so he should be back in unless he doesn’t train again this week.

Lai’s been as impressive as you can get. I’d rather him than Brainless Lachie Jones or Logan Evans whose been missing in action since R24 last year.

Charleson has kicked 15 goals this year in a SANFL forward line that doesn’t get any good delivery from the team so I’ll reward him and see if he has any potential to take that next step

Berry hasn’t been an standout in the SANFL but since the season is done you may as well play him and see what he can get out of the rest of the season.

Then if Rozee declares himself fit then you have to play him. Simple as that.

Not sure Ramm will learn anything being thrown to the wolves
If it's pissing down then you'd think their three talls would be far less threatening and Ramm would probably struggle with them too.

Same reason I'd hold off on debuting Whitlock.

I'd just go with Bergman/Jones as the 3rd "tall". Walker and Fogarty are both only 192cm.

But if it's dry then all bets are off.
