I think Nicks coming from an assistant coach under Hinkley for 6 years, was a big reason the Crows were so competitive in recent years.

He knew the game plan and how to play against it.

It will be different with Carr and our new coaching crew.
Nicks always knew that Hinkley had zero game plan.

With Carr it all feels different.

I’m reminded of Hinkley’s first Showdown in 2013, when we came from behind in the 3rd and everything clicked … when Jonas went on to TWalker and shut him down and baby Wines flattened Vince. And a voice from the row behind me declared in awe: “I’m seeing it but I don’t believe it.”

Is it just me or does this week feel different?

Like, we could still come out and lose on the weekend, but it no longer feels like we’re all budgeting for a drastic fieldwide underperformance by default — regardless of how good the other mob is, or how they’re going.
I feel like we are less impacted by emotional things with Stinkley gone. So I feel like we will just go about our business.

I think Mitch needs to expect he is going to get 10+ opportunities a game. Last week he was like an excited little kid in a candy shop and it rattled him.

Hornet will win the showdown medal

Josh Carr made footie great again 🌈

True, but a week is a long time in football, and if we don't win (especially if the margin is largish), the black clouds of doom will come out again immediately, as well as all the Chicken Littles.

Carn Ports.

I think we win by a few goals with Butters having 40 and winning showdown medal, crows midfield sucks.

Gergoiades to kick 5 on borglase or butts or whoever spud he has on him

if there was ever a game to pull the emotional lever this is the one to do it. I think our problem in the past has been that the crows have got up emotionally for showdowns but we've just treated it like another game.

The big emotional wins under Ken were always about when his job was on the line. And that never really coincided with a showdown (the second to last game in 2024 playing for top 2 and Robbie's Farewell in 2022 the only times i think the emotional lever was pulled for a showdown).

A couple times in 2023 and 2024 it was the week after the showdown we got the emotional response because Kenny came under pressure after insipid showdown losses.

Inb4 Koch is down hugging Dawson and crows people as we lose in a close one while Carr fumes.

oh shit he is so going to do that. A bit like when everyone was shattered as the siren blew in the 2014 prelim and he was clapping like choco walking down the aisle to the ground in the last couple minutes of the 2004 GF.

Oh and remember that time Kenny was laughing when Dawson was about to kick the winning goal after the siren after we had completely bottled a match we should've iced.

Hinkley would have circled this on his calendar in red as a loss

I like how Carr said we don't want to be an emotional team and be consistent. A dig at the Hinkley years maybe where we would get charged up for 1 game then flat for the next 3.

Alex Pearce
Weitering maybe
Sam Taylor
Harris Andrews
Darcy Moore maybe

That's about it
I'd agree with Pearce and Andrews, the others at their peak maybe but recently have struggled with injuries etc. Moore in particular has looked pretty average when he's played.

A genuine 50/50, as these games used to be. One thing that warms the cockles is knowing that win or lose, we won't be outcoached and we won't have ticked the red box before bounce.

Expectations aren't high, but I'm still going to be bitterly disappointed if we lose. Haven't felt this invested in a game for a while.
