Rhylee West played his 1st AFL game against Fremantle and now will play his 50th against the some club

Understand the calls for LSmith but I suspect he has nowhere near the tank required just yet.

What I’d actually do is play Lobb as number 1 ruck with English forward/2nd. I’ve always thought Lobb is better as a ruck way back to his GWS days, and Tim is better at coming in as the 2nd
I'd prefer to play Smith with 60% Ruck 40% bench and English second Ruck. And then tell English he is splitting his time 50/50 with Darcy from then on, if he doesn’t like it then look for another club.

Hope Bevo heeds your advice, Darcy will destroy Lobb. Lobb is no good against strong rucks.

As a Freo fan, far more concerned with English around the ground, Darcy had a long time out and isn’t running that well at the moment.

Lobb up forward can maybe drag Pearce away and JUH can play against Draper who has only played a few games. Or maybe they play Pearce on JUH and let Draper play on Lobb, knowing Lobb is unlikely to hurt us too much.

Some changes are fairly obvious

Red for anyone - McNeil, VDM, Bramble, Daniel all poor for a long time in AFL. Let’s say VDM.

Keath (inj) for Buss - our only option. Buss is playing well in VFL but 1:1 was killed by some big kids on the VFL against Brisbane. But he did still get a lot of the ball and a fair chunk of the marks so other than in a wrestle he was very good. With JOD forward (and was one of our best players) if he get eaten then JOD can go back.

Others a bit harder

VDM for Scott - I get that VDM brings that run but he just doesn’t do anything. Scott is both versatile and always kicks goals when he plays forward.

Bramble and Lobb should be dropped but no options for them. Red could go back but he is so good mid that I wouldn’t do it. Lachie Smith is developing fantastically but he isn’t ready yet. Croft is not killing it in the VFL. Had a shocker yesterday.

Options are play Baker to come in to wing and Gallagher to go back for Bramble (get better run and more fight). Gags has played well until this game but we have to strengthen this part of the ground. Khamis deserves a go but is so too slow to play small forward - he could come in for Williams.

Williams is playing poorly - he looked to be turning the corner last week but He is grandma level slow but looks to have no confidence to use his size. Would have replaced him with Cleary but he is now out with concussion. With a full team he will struggle - Freijah already looks so much more confidence.

Defence:

Gallagher Jones Duryea

Dale Buss Khamis

Midfield:

English Bont Libba

Baker Red García

Forwards:

Trelor JOH West

Scott BLobb JOD (can swap with Khamis if needed)

Int

Friejah, Sanders, Macrae, Daniel

Reverse time pick the Russian (CCCP) and call him up? Has been our best for the best team almost every week for close to a dozen games. But just as much he is hard - yesterday he got close to record on CPs.

Still missing with injury or suspension

  • JJ
  • Weightman
  • Coffield
  • Darcy (such a huge loss)
  • Naughton
  • Harmes
  • Keath
  • Smith (out for year)

With them in we would murder Brisbane

Darcy JUH Harmes
West Naughton Weightman

English Bont Libba
García Red Trelor

Coffield Keath Dale
Duryea Jones JJ

Int:

Macrae, Sanders, JOD, Gallagher

Perfect mid rotation as Macrae, Trelor and Sanders come in for Bont, Libba, Red.

Buss for Keath
Richards for McNeil
Baker for Gallagher
Scott for Lobb & go smaller if he’s injured

Personally I’d debut Smith as well. He will be beaten badly, but compete. Or we just go with English, who will be beaten badly and won’t compete. Darcy will bash him up & Jackson will jump all over him, we will get spanked in clearances and lose by 7+ goals again.

Yesterday was the first time I've seen Smith clearly beaten in the ruck. He came up against an experienced ruckman in Darcy Fort and a couple of taller, athletic rucks who were able to out-jump and out-work him. He's a real competitor though and may be worth a game or too when our making finals becomes an impossibility.

I hear you re: Lobb but he was horrible tonight. Not sure you can just play him for his size if he isn’t offering much else. Will be an interesting team selection this week. Think Bramble survives somehow.
So true unfortunately. Adds no pressure, run or even contested marking. Mind you, we got smashed so bad elsewhere (clearances) it was a tough game to step up. But he’s had enough chances.

Why is Bramble taking numerous kick outs when we have Bailey Dale?

Freo has become a must win game to keep our season alive. Hopefully we come out breathing fire in the tackle department
Actual I'll disagree here. We can lose to Freo and still make the 8 ... and better than 8th. There are no real standouts this year and no team I wouldn't give us a chance against if our key players are fit and available. After the bye could be interesting.

I think the second half of the year is going to be out there. Gerard and his snakes and ladders will be doing somersaults.

TL/DR. Even if we lose to Freo we're not out of finals contention by a long shot. Wide open season.

To get 13 wins we can only drop 3 more games. Lose to Freo and it’s 2 games. Amongst our run home we have Sydney in Sydney and Geelong in Geelong.

So we really can’t afford to drop this game if we want to play finals.

Bramble is a bad option isn't he?! My heart is in my mouth when anyone but Dale kicks in (even though he delivers a few howlers.)

What are the odds? 18/1 to be precise.

I like Westy, he has a crack at least.
17:1 actually.

I am no mathematician, but the odds on both of these things occurring would be far more if it involves 2 games against the 1 club with 16 other possibilities & 48 other games in between. 17x17 is nearly 300, so it would be something like 1:300 at least

Does this new ruckman bloke called Smith punch blokes in the chops and actually give a f**k? If so, I want the campaigner in for Lobb.
His tough as nails. He has to be because he hasn't got the best leap and isn't as tall as "modern" rucks. He is bash and crash and a similar mold to Nankervis. If he can increase his tank whilst turning some of his baby fat into muscle he will make it, at this point though I'd just bring him in to have a ruck who won't take a backwards step. English doesn't have a great record against Jackson and Darcy will overpower him.

Bevo said he would play next week in the press conference. So it’s moot.

No...it's 1:17. West can only play his 50th game against one of 17 clubs, and it's 1:17 that it's the same club he debuted against.

Sure, but I mean the odds of first & 50th against the same team being a whole lot higher. How many others would have had that?

There are only 17 options! There aren't hundreds of clubs that could have been his rival in his 50th.

Sure, if you had nominated before he was drafted who he debuted against and said that he would also play his 50th against that same team, the odds would be much more than 1:17.
