Changes - R16 v Sydney @ SCG

I think the “Mark this day, Dogs’ fans!” 4point win at the SCG was played in the wet. That was 2015 when Easton Wood raced back and dived to stop a late Swans goal.
Prophetic words.
A great pick up on the run and a handball out of danger to Matty Boyd 😀

And don’t forget his midair goal that didn’t get enough attention, imho.

I went back and had a look at the whole game. I can't see what was so bad about Bramble's game. TBH I thought he was pretty serviceable.

Anyway it matters little what we think. He played all 24 games last year and has played all 14 so far this year. MC clearly rate him. So I doubt he'll be dropped even with JJ likely to come back.

OUT:
Treloar (inj); Dolan (unlucky); Hynes (--> sub)

IN:
Johannisen; Sanders; khamis (back from being sub v Richmond)

That's only two changes in the 23 selected (but with khamis and Hynes swapping 23rd man roles).

Two changes is plenty when you've just won by 79 points. However if McNeil's shoulder doesn't pass the test at training then I'd bring in either Dolan or Garcia.
I hope Hynes isn't sub. He's showing good progression and needs to be closer to the action, not further.

Given we have a 5 day break into a 6 day break, I'd hope we're including the conditioning staff in conversations.

There may well be a player who's carried a heavy load, showing signs they might be best managed with a sub role for a week.

Remember listening on the radio in the car. Tears did fall.

Completly agree. I'd rather him back in VFL if the only alternative was sub. We just need to get game time into him.

Look I agree too. I’d have him ahead of McNeil for instance but I’m trying to anticipate what will actually happen not what I’d like to see.

Finished watching the last of the match today and also felt Bramble was a solid citizen in this match. Don't feel like he is coming out after that performance. Dolan would be stiff but much more likely on actual output.

In: Sanders, JJ, Busslinger, Buku
Out: Treloar (inj), Bramble, JOD (inj), Coffield

I just don’t want to risk JOD off a short turnaround. Tightness is a warning sign to a bigger injury.

Coffield was okay but I want Buku to the backline this week as the Swans have three tall forwards and despite being similar size, Buku is better against KPFs. Coffield can be sub this week.

Buku has came along well as a 3rd forward. He was all at sea down back, never want to see jim down back again

Wow, disagree wholeheartedly on Coffield. Was at the game and although he made an error or two he peeled of his man to intercept really well.

Sydneys third tall is Francis who is 192cm, no reason Coffield couldn’t play on him. Thought Coffield was great last game, hadn’t played at AFL level in a year so will only get better. Last thing he needs is to be dropped and lose the consistency.

If JOD and or Jones don’t get up bring Buss in, Sydney’s tall aren’t much of a threat.

Thought coffield looked like he had dropped some weight from his frame up top which was a huge positive for his ability to move around the ground. Stays in for sure.

Both look the goods long term but I'd only take one of Hynes and Dolan into this one. Think Dolan goes back to the VFL, small ground probably suits Hynes a bit more.

Sub; Bramble

If JOD doesnt come up if go Jones, Buss if Jones isnt right. Coffield can play on Francis, don't need a 3rd tall defender this week.

I don’t think anyone is suggesting bramble had a bad game but JJ is ready to go and is an upgrade on bramble and for team balance one defender should come out for JJ. It won’t be Dale, Freijah or Williams and Coffield plays a different role being the medium defender who plays tall.

Sometimes players are unlucky to go out because a better player is available, it’s part of professional sport.

If we are a chance for top 4 this like nearly every game is a must win. Unfortunate we get the swans after a 5 day break with them at close to full strength now at the SCG. Still have queries on their form rumours have it a number of Port players were not right, and it may be hard for Gulden and Papley to perform second up after 6 days from a long break.

I have been told JOD will not play and will miss a minimum of 1 week.

Sucks but a good opportunity for Buss (hopefully it's Buss who comes in). A decent match up also on an Amartey or McLean who he should be able to compete against with confidence.
