after watching both games (sanfl and afl) what I’d do if I was the selectors..

worrell in for brown.. need some extra height in defence this week. plus brown is clearly still injured and was limping at times during sundays game. worrell is pretty good on both smalls and talls.

murphy in for mookay.. I dont rate murph as a small forward type tbh he just doesnt hit the scoreboard enough.. i reacon his best work is through the middle and on the ball. played off HB as a junior and played a fair bit in the midfield in his first year at the crows in the sanfl so its not foreign to him. mookay just has to go, its way beyond a joke now. reacon murph could take that position that mookay currently holds and provide a shitload more.

Pedlar in for sloane. rest pedlar forward at times if/when he tires.

would like to see mcadam dropped but just cant see them doing it as there’s not a lot ready to replace him with. gollant maybe.

dont really give a toss about winning. just want to see grit, determination, more of the never give up attitude and continued improvement.

Please Mackay was not in our best 10-12 players

Can you honestly say in a rebuild year where we have the opportunity to give games to Worrell, Pedlar and Cook that Mackay should be playing based on a regular production of 12-14 touches a game

Except for his hard ball get against StKilda he has had little influence on the majority of games he had played this year and the team is getting little value for his experience. The first job of an experienced player in a rebuild year is to perform

We are not finals contenders, we should already be building for 2022, its time to give DMac's games to a younger and talented player

I liked what I saw of Pedlar in the SANFL. He's the bloke I'd to see...raking left foot....and 4 clearances / 8 inside 50's....bring him in for Sloane. For Brown I'd bring in Worrell again for second crack, given the lions have a couple of handy talls up fwd. We should drop McAdam as well and bring in Gollant, but I can't see us dropping him.

Is Brown injured again or are you dropping him?

In: Worrell, Frampton, Pedlar, Parnell, Murphy
Out: Sholl, Mackay, Sloane (inj), Kelly, McAdam

B: Brown Butts Jones
HB: Doedee O'Brien Smith
C: Hamill Schoenberg Seedsman
HF: McHenry Walker Thilthorpe
F: Rowe Fogarty Berry
R: Frampton Keays Laird
I: Worrell Parnell Murphy Pedlar

- I'm rewarding Frampton's excellent SANFL form and putting him in Ruck.
- Gives an opportunity to see how O'Brien goes in a key defensive position (on Daniher).
- Pushing Hamill up to a wing to replace Sholl. I can forgive Sholl for missing the sitter at the end, but not for the numerous half-hearted chases and defensive efforts displayed throughout the game. SANFL time for him.
- Sloane injured and Mackay and Kelly I have seen enough and their form against Carlton doesn't make them a must-select this week.
- McAdam just hasn't done enough all season. Get him some form in the SANFL as well and give someone else a go.
- Schoenberg to pick up Sloane's on-ball time.
- Worrell, Parnell and Pedlar in to get AFL experience and show what they've got at AFL level.
- Murphy replaces Mackay - we probably know Murphy's limits, but he gives his all and adds some spark to the side.

There were worse players than Mackay, McAdam springs to mind.

But not many more

Tex, Thilthorpe and Rowe are consistently the only forwards that generate passable possession numbers. McAdam is one tenth the player he was last year, not only is he not getting it, you often wonder if he's even on the field when the ball gets down there. Fog and Berry too. Would love to see the table that show the breakdown of who our entries go to.

What has happened to McAdam? You barely notice he's out there most of the time now.

Is it him transitioning away from being a marking forward/deep target which was his strength, and that being taken away while we're trying to set up a more conventional structure with talls/smalls in properly defined roles?

Out
Sloane

Possibly out
Brown looked a bit proppy at times but played out the game

Omitted
Plenty of players had poor games. Almost too many played poorly for us to single 1-2 out with the selection axe.

Surely to goodness we go taller down back this week. Worrell, Murray or McAsey in for Brown if he's out injured.

Loving Pedlar's development but he probably needs a few more games to build up match fitness. So Hately or O'Connor in for Sloane, probably Hately.

We love Murphy almost as much as Mackay and Kelly. His latest effort to get back playing quicker than expected from injury will be the sort of act that will go down in internal AFC folklore. In fact there may already be a statue of him built in the medical room. He'll be in for one of our struggling forwards - plenty to choose from.

Brown was an absolute shell of his former self. 2 pressure acts for the entire match, TWO, from a lockdown small defender.
Achilles injuries are the worst, as i'm currently getting rehab for one myself. He needs a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Sorry I have to continue to push this "structure" approach to footy teams .....and also the fact that in any rebuild it's not about having 22 players on field under 50 games .....if you want to go the Gold Coast approach, then you're on your own

This is sounding preachy, but you need certain player types in a side .....tall KPP, and a mix of speed and slower inside types

There's a reason 7 Crows Coachs .......7 ......That's 7 .......who have continued to select Mackay over his career, despite supporters 10 year push to have him permanantly out of the side

On the weekend we had 11 players in that side with under 15 games experience, 12 if you include the medi-sub .....you have to have a certain level of experience around those kids, to be competitive and help with development

Don't you think the club would have already replaced a 33 YO Mackay IF there was a structural replacement ready .....I mean the club was ready to say goodbye to a 31 YO Tex Walker, and still haven't committed to him for next year, despite his form .....that's because the club has structural options to Tex

I mean there's just a bit of logic required in these matters

7 Coaches in what 13 years? most of them sacked, none gone onto other senior roles, ZERO premierships. That sure is something to hang your argument on.

I think it might be a couple of weeks early for Pedlar. But Berry and Schoey could share the vast majority of Sloane's minutes, leaving Pedlar with a couple of runs through the middle but mainly up forward. Reality is that Seed is much more likely to be moved inside than more minutes to developing players. Which will necessitate Dmac continuing to run his outside patterns.

I’m a fan of giving players a decent run at it. But it’s time for McAdam to go back and find some form.

minimum outs are Sloane and McAdam

time to give Pedlar a run the firsts

not sure on the other on - McAsey or Worrell with a reshuffle of positions perhaps?

My immediate guess at changes

OUT: Sloane, McAdam, Hamill
IN: Hately, Murphy, Murray

I'd be more inclined to keep Hamill in and have him on Cameron since Charles will torch Brown if he gets 1-1 and isolated inside 50 (which Brisbane absolutely will try to do). Brown can take McCarthy. Butts on Daniher, Murray on Hipwood and Doedee on McStay, with Kelly taking Zorko.

They of course could just do Murray and Murphy for Sloane and McAdam and up the rotation minutes for Schoenberg, Berry and even McHenry in the middle too, but they may see that a bit as robbing Peter to pay Paul in terms of forward line pressure.

hahaha.. he loves big butts... and played a straight bat regarding the possibility of getting offered the Pies senior coaching role!..

You'd think he’d be interested. But he’s been there before and I think they’d want to go with someone who’s more of a proven hand in one way or another, like Pyke or Ross Lyon.

Probably wrong thread but has anyone asked Nicks why we didn’t tag/try to restrict Walsh? Has he said anything about it? Is there no journalist willing to ask the question??

He's likely another coach who won't hard tag and relies on the "system" to get the job done.

Whilst we will miss a fit Sloane, we won't miss a playing injured Sloane & it could be a blessing in a rebuild year.

It will force us to open up significant midfield minutes for developing players. Of the current players, all of Schoenberg, Berry & Murphy could do with (more) midfield rotations.

It's just a question of whether we bring in O'Connor or Hately. Perhaps it's time to give Hately a solid block of games to see what he has. As LoBu mentioned, could learn plenty matching up on Lyons.

I love Sloane but this is the greatest thing for the team. As injury where can keep his fitness up and come back next year in tip top condition, forcing us to replace him with a kid who needs midfield minutes.

Really pees me off when you see the AFL trying to rub DMac for 3 weeks for being tough and fair at a contest. Then the next thing? Giving a guy 1 week off for slamming a guy’s head against concrete..

Unintentional head bump (3 weeks) vs deliberate head bump (1 week). And if Keays sustained a broken jaw, the 1 week ban magically becomes 4-6 weeks ban. This arbitrary AFL legal rulings are the stuff made by plain idiots.

Yup. And it could be so easy, but they won’t do it. Cowards.

I read this and thought, what a cogent, concise discussion of likely match ups.

Then I thought, we’re going to get ****ing murdered.

I forgot what it’s like to have assistant coaches who don’t guard the bees.
