I am not a fan of DMac, but he is a cheap "Plug n Play" player when our defensive end has been hit with injuries.

Having said that, I would have gone Davis this week, if he is fit.

I was officially the first On Board the Davis Train having watched him at training before he had played in the SANFL. It has been a very slow moving train but I am maintaining the faith.

Should we select an inexperienced player coming back from a three week injury break? We have rightly complained about the Crows selecting players carrying injuries or who are underdone. I am pleased that we seem to have changed this policy this year but it is early days.

Ben looked good playing off half back in the internal trial and I would like to see him play several good games in the Twos before he is selected. I have a sneaky hunch that if he gets fit and firing he will be a handy addition to our team.

He's out of contract at the end of the year so we should probably find out whether he has it or not at AFL level

5th year on the list for just 2 games

Listened to Nicks’ presser:
Worrell is very very close to selection and will be named in the emergencies this week, it sounds like he will be the next debut
Talia, Brown and Kelly should all be available for the next game
Impressed with Fog’s work around the ball and that comes from improved fitness
Highlighted that on average teams use 28-35 players in a season and the likes of Worrell, McAsey, Jones and Fog will get their chances

If we're losing two senior players from a VERY young team and replacing one of them with a debutant, I think it makes sense for the other player coming in to be more experienced, especially if he was the only decent player last week in the reserves.

It's not like we're not playing kids.

We're playing kids because we're forced too. Effectively Reid saving us from ourselves.

So what's Mackay going to do, play as a lockdown defender where he'd end up being puss, because he doesn't have any genuine defensive skill (he is an outside midfielder)? Shift a Hamill or a McPherson to it and take a half back flank where he'll be mediocre and taking away one of the easiest development positions? Play as a key defender, which could be a black comedy? Mackay isn't good enough of a footballer to justify any of that, which is the key requirement for a players experience to be worth anything.

Even if we were worried about experience, there are better solutions. Switch Lynch to play as a loose defender as an example. He's good enough to hold up alright in the easiest position on the field to look good (and you switch Doedee and McPherson to take more lockdown roles, who are both much more capable footballers then Mackay), and now we've got an excuse to debut Thilthorpe. Thus at least getting some more long term benefit from these injuries (seeing the major benefit is we get an early look at Murray at the moment).

Until we are unable to field 22 players, there is only one place Mackay should be, and that is the medical sub. It's the role he was born to do at this level.

Lynch as a loose defender, after he was in the top 5 players on the ground last week as a half forward, lacing out Tex and Frampton?

McKay is the lightening rod for our ridiculous team selection culture that has resulted in where we are now, 9 players with less than 10 games experience is a direct result of playing Mackay (and others) over the last 3 years when getting games into a couple of our youngsters was the smarter option.

So when he is rushed back into the team in Round Two its not outrageous the alarm bells have been rung.

He’s going to stay on the list until you spell his name correctly.

I actually wouldn’t be against sending Sloane back into defence this week for a stint or 2 as an experiment. Feel like he needs to find a new string to his bow as he plays out the remainder of his career, and gun mid turned HBF is not that uncommon a transition.

Would essentially be swapping roles with Laird

Perfect way to end each post....

Digest that.

Sometimes people want new short stories or abridged versions of classic texts , and I say older editions of Playboy this, Reader’s

Whoa boy, Sloane played probably his best game in 2 years last weekend, certainly in recent times, I think I'd be holding off on that kind of talk for at least ac couple of weeks anyhow.

I dunno what an abridged version of an older edition Playboy would look like.
I'm not really interested either actually.

Just talking a rotation or 2. Just to see how he looks back there when we are so depleted.

I think this year we are going to have to move pieces around and be versatile with our midfielders, and Sloane's no exception.

Do you think it is fair to play Davis, coming back from injury, having played 1 quarter of football this year (excluding the internal trial), in a new role?

We have plenty of time before the end of this year to make a valid judgement on Whether to offer Ben a new contract.

You have made your point that you do not think we should select Mackay (did you watch him in the Twos last Saturday?) but playing Davis this week is ridiculous.

I didn't say play him this week, I just said we should figure out at some point this year whether he's actually an AFL player or not, because 2 games in 5 years isn't enough to make that call

2 games in 5 years is probably all the answer you need.

It would be consistent with our selection logic surrounding Davis if he was chosen this week
He fits the bill as a prospective sub - fringe player, not an absolute rookie, with less than 10 games under his belt.

That said, I still think Jones & Fogarty are the front runners for the sub position this week.

Brayden Cook?

What confuses me the most about the pro-Mackay selectioners here is that which out of Kelly and Brown he is directly replacing?

Because I've never seen him play as a small lockdown defender, or the defensive role that Kelly plays.

Sure if out of last week's side Seedsman, Hamill, Sholl, are all in the rehab room throw him in, but there's no specific role for him should we keep the same structure.

Seems to me that we will be shifting the magnets to our own detriment to put him in.

Brown if you listen too Nicks' presser
