If he came to the club expecting to make finals before 2023 (and outlayed this to the bored), he might not be there by the time we do make the 8 again.
FMD, that would suck when you consider the state of the list and the coaching panel he inherited.

It took around 10 years to make a GF after drafting Sloane, Talia and Walker. In that period we lost Vince, 2 first and 2 second round draft picks and got nothing for Tippett.

From a coaching perspective it went from Craig to Sanderson to Walsh (with a cameo from Camporeale) to Pyke.

I'd like to think with reasonable draft hands in 2018 and 2019, a decent draft hand this year and probably next we could be competitive and pushing for the 8 by 2023-24.

I agree, but I hope he was honest with the club when he came in and advised it was rebuild time.

If he presented saying they should make the 8 by 2021, "refresh" the list etc, it won't take long for the club to get nervous again (especially once crowds start dipping under 30k (pending covid of course).

I think the club had already made that decision for him based on the draft and trade period last year.

It's hard to see either of Hartigan or Mackay getting contract extensions at the end of the year. Nor Gibbs, Lynch, Seedsman or Walker next year. And that's without taking into account other players who'll struggle to get extensions at the end of this season or next.

I can't see Crocker and Keays being any more than depth players. They try hard but aren't really good enough. I don't know why they're getting games first up.
Because they earned them through the pre season.

And now you give them til the end of the hub to see how they perform and make the decision then.

That's been an issue for a few years now - CEY, Matt Crouch, Atkins, Betts - they have all watched as their player runs past them, only to make an effort if they see the ball is about to land there, but it's too late.

The goal Duursma kicked from a mark in the square at the Southern end was an example. He ran hard, our blokes watched.

They all do it, I always thought it was a deliberate part of the game plan to not get sucked into a place they’re not meant to be. Nicks did mention it, so obviously not part of his.

There's certainly an element of this, but you'd imagine when a player is on the 50m an running hard to the goal square which is empty, you'd probably break the structure rule and chase him.

First time I've heard that from one of our coaches though so it's a good sign.

The other thing I noticed was the lack of front on pressure applied to players. Lynch and Matt seen to just amble to put 'pressure' on someone.

What kind of pitch do you reckon would strike a chord with our Football Strategy committee.

Given how easily our mids were spanked, I'm not sure he would.
It really is slim pickings. Probably suggests keeping the margin so low was a good effort from all concerned...
Matt & Brad were the 1st & 3rd highest disposal winners on the ground. The problem is that Port had the 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th highest disposal winners - and the 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th. Adelaide only had 4 of the top-15 disposal winners in the game (Lynch & Laird were 9th & 10th). It wasn't so much a case of Matt & Brad being spanked, as too few other midfielders contributing. Our midfield was collectively spanked, because their midfield worked a whole lot harder than ours did as a group.

The CBA's from the last match .....so we're saying our midfield is too slow, we need to add speed .....IIRC these were Nicks assessment PS

So WTF has actually changed from 2019 ......no Seedsman, no Jones effectively, no Milera ...just same ol

Crocker presented well but I wouldn't say he showed anything other than being a depth player.

Thought Keays was average.

Maybe we've been watching different players.
+1

no upside with these two .....there to keep balance of experience to rookies, in case of injuries

No genuine upside is likely. Mind you I can see Crocker lasting for a long while if we opt to get smaller.

Keays well, next week needs to be a massive step up.

Crocker I agree, likely to get more chances .....I'd give the guy an opportunity down back, he reminds of a poor mans Jeremy Howe
