I read on another site we lost the scratch match by 100 points. Nicks saying Gibbs is in the picture doesn't fill me with confidence.
He said on 3AW today that if his choice is Gibbs or a young player near the same output he's gonna back in the young player.

Nicks also mentioned that Hart is back today and flying to the Gold Coast, but they have to wait from the AFL to find out if he will be forced to do a 2 week quarantine or not.

Can we fly him there via Mexico City?

Anyone that watched that match that thought Jarrod Witts wasn't the dominant big man on the ground is ******* blind, SpecSavers won't help them but a guide dog might!

I reckon 3 or 4 times Witts outbodied ROB and just took the ball out of the Ruck contest...He got pantsed and I've been a fan of ROB's more generally.

Pretty obvious both coaches had Jarrod Witts 2nd best on ground.

Gold Coast v Adelaide

10 Matthew Rowell (GCFC)
8 Jarrod Witts (GCFC)
3 Lachie Weller (GCFC)
3 Benjamin King (GCFC)
3 Hugh Greenwood (GCFC)
3 Touk Miller (GCFC)

Agree, still, apart from those occasions, as I posted, most taps went to contest and we were annihilated for clearances. That's on the mids, not ROB. Witts, whilst being the better big man, wasn't actually giving his mids silver service. Their dominance at the stoppage was down to our mids failing miserably again.

"near the same output" is an out. Purely subjective and will change depending on philosophy. He's got to keep doors open publicly, but if actually thinks like that, then god help us. Where's the gearing for future dividend?

I remember Phil Walsh said that ground ball gets is the stat you use to measure effort. I imagine we would have gotten smashed in that area.

For starters NAB League games are 25 minute quarters no time on...And he played a mix of forward and on ball in a very poor Geelong Falcons team with really only 3 decent talents Sam Walsh, Ned McHenry and underager Cooper Stephens. Ned was always expected to go late 1st round/early 2nd so no it wasn't a speculative pick at all. Geezus people on here are quick to condemn.
Mutineer you are right it was not a speculative pick, but I respect your knowledge of draftees but you seriously cannot say picking Ned at 16 was even a ok pick and yes he has time to play some good AFL for us , but a pick at 16 of a small player that plays mainly as fwd who was not known as a goal kicker and no real speed whose strength was intensity on ball and player really doesn't get you too excited when so many great future stars who were available .
I know raised this selection from draft day and continue this criticism because kid struggling and posters etc still pumping him up .
But he is a Crow and hope does well but we as a club are desperate for some future stars and Hamish has to start getting the top picks right .

Sounds like Himmelberg might be a chance, Nicks mentioned he and Frampton both didn't return in the greatest shape after the break, so they wanted to get them back up to speed. Only issue is I don't think you can add a tall to the current lineup, you need to move Tex out if Himmelberg or Frampton is to come in.

With our non-existent forward line atm it wouldn't matter. Combine that with our inability to get it over half-way and our forwards spend most of the game in our back half defending. We should simply pick 18 defenders and Park the Bus soccer style. Just kidding.

It probably would. Both HH and Frampton are much more suited to a bomb it long style.

He's not a small forward. He's been pigeoned holed there for the first year or two because usually, we're slow to integrate kids to the midfield. Also playing AFL games out of position is a lot better than SANFL (or a scratch match) in position. At the very worse, it allows for some acclimatisation to the increased speed and brutality of the step up.

Ned is very much a midfielder.

He surely couldn't do any worse than our current non-existent midfield! Should play him there.

No, not at all. They're non-competitive at the moment.

I won't say his foray impressed me against the Gold Coast, but I do think it is a massive tick for a player to be willing to go in hard and with a point to prove when we did put him in the midfield and we've been horrifically belted up to that point. It was a real high effort, no reward quarter.

Part of the problem is we allow defenders to get easy intercept marks with the few forward entries we get. We're never getting time to set up, everyone is always out of position because we cannot maintain possession, especially in our half of the ground. So at the very least we need to start being better at marking in our forward half so we can get our players a chance to set up, which will not only hopefully allow us to score more, but be scored against less as well. Scores on turnovers are always a killer because they can happen so quickly.

Correct - I fail to understand people’s obsession with complaining that we took “smalls”.

Rowell in 178cm. McHenry is 179cm and Jones 180cm.

If they have the talent then their height is no issue and in Neds case, it should never be the reason he’s pigeonholed as a small forward

Red light..... why wouldn’t you, if trying to break into the side or getting a second crack at it be at your peak, maybe that’s why they are where they are

I have to admit, I reckon Kelly might just have a place in our rebuild. He does exemplify the attitude we want to promote.

Sure, he's probably not good enough to be around as anything more than depth when we're back at the top end, but he's a damn selfless player. Would probably give him the small defender role in place of Brown next week.
Feel Kelly may make a good coach one day. Often the best coaches are players that aren't stars but get the best out of their ability. I don't think Kelly has a big future on field but wouldn't mind him as an assistant. Seems switched on.

It's quite likely he could make that transition.

He'll be someone we need to upgrade at some point, but that ridiculously brave play he made on the weekend after being concussed the week before, and us being belted pretty much told me this is someone we want to hold onto in our lineup whilst we're rebuilding. That needs to be the norm and the way to make that the norm is to reward people who will do that. I can live with cultural picks for the time being.
