Who do they play on Cameron this week?

Brown will get slaughtered, he just doesn't have the pace. Do they roll Murphy back onto him?
Personally I'd roll Gallucci back there. He has all the physical attributes do play on him and it could be the making of him. Or we will get more of the same, but at least we will know

I think this week there will be a big difference between what we would like to do and realistically what can be done.

The two definites are Atkins is out and I think we have to play either Himmelberg or Frampton. Obviously not like for like so I think there needs to be minimum two changes.

Personally I would drop Walker, Lynch, Murphy, Seedsman and Atkins (inj) on pure performance but I think the coach needs time the dropping of players. There is no point dropping them and bringing them back two weeks later as their replacements are not up to it.

Smith had 447 metres gained from 17 touches.

Shows how meaningless that stat can be at times.

I wouldn't hate that! Might be just the kind of role a guy like Gooch needs. 1 simple role, be all over this guy like a tropical rash.

See what happens from there!

Can people stop mentioning Davis.
Hes just another Matt Crouch.

Hes the type of midfielder who's the icing ontop of the cake. If you don't have the cake underneath he's completely and utterly useless. And that's the problem with our current midfield. We don't have the base anymore. We don't have a Scott Thompson, we don't have a Patrick Dangerfield, we don't have a Hugh Greenwood, we don't have a Cameron Ellis-Yoleman.

Ben Davis, Matt Crouch, Brad Crouch, Rory Sloane (In his current role) are all the same type of midfielder.
If you can move 2 of Crouch/Sloane out of the guts then sure, slot Davis in there. But if you cant, including him is only a wasted spot in the 22. He wont get the midfield minutes to grow, and itll stop someone else growing. IMO, playing Davis is just going to hinder 2 careers unless you can move 2 of Crouch/Sloane out.

It leads to an interesting debate. Do you play Davis or the Crouches. Id actually play the Crouches to maintain value so you can get good compensation for them. Davis is the future, but Davis 1 year along in his development or Davis 0 years along in his development PLUS 1 or 2 other high draft picks?
Fair point. Did mention somewhere that we had to keep either Greenwood or CEY. Just a cluster**** with no tall big bodied options

Greenwood has 10 touches as a mid in a team that smashed us.

CEY would only add to the non-existent defensive pressure.

They are 28 and 27 years old the two of them.

BTW, neither port or GC had a 'big bodied' mid that was the difference. Port's best mids were Butters (181cm) and Boak (183cm) while GC's best mids were Rowell (179cm), Miller (179cm) and Weller (181cm).

Height is irrelevant! Effort is what' the problem is

Obviously we have a shopping list of senior players who are demanding to be dropped - but who do we have to replace them?

Here's a list of players who weren't a part of the massacre yesterday afternoon, and my assessment of where they're at:
  • Riley Knight - Injured. Not AFL standard anyway
  • Bryce Gibbs - Has long since stopped caring and can't be bothered putting in the effort
  • Jordan Gallucci - Not AFL standard
  • Myles Poholke - Not AFL standard
  • David Mackay - Always gives 100%, but isn't always terribly effective, has been moved on to create vacancies for youth. Viable option but only after we've exhausted the list of kids needing games.
  • Kyle Hartigan - Has been moved on to get games into McAsey. Viable option, but only after we've exhausted the list of kids needing games.
  • Tyson Stengle - Suspended.
  • Billy Frampton - Not AFL standard.
  • Shane McAdam - Viable option. Untested, but mature enough and ready to go.
  • Josh Worrell - 1st year draftee KPP. Probably too raw/unready, but I'd still pick him ahead of Frampton & Himmelberg.
  • Harry Schoenberg - 1st year draftee. Probably too raw/unready, but I'd still pick him ahead of Dots & Gooch.
  • Patrick Wilson - Injured. Not AFL standard anyway.
  • Elliott Himmelberg - Not AFL standard.
  • Andrew McPherson - Viable option. Perpetually injured, but currently injury free. Now is as good a time as any to see what he offers.
  • Ronin O'Connor - 1st year draftee. Probably too raw/unready, but I'd still pick him ahead of Dots & Gooch.
  • Lachlan Sholl - Viable option, and hopefully next cab off the rank.
  • Ben Davis - Viable option. Hasn't shown anything in his 2 AFL games so far, but not yet written off completely.
  • Jordan Butts - Viable option. Next cab off the rank if one of our tall defenders (Talia/McAsey/Doedee) needs to be replaced.
  • Ace Taylor - 1st year rookie list draftee. Probably too raw/unready for AFL selection this year.
  • Lachlan Gollant - 1st year draftee. Probably too raw/unready for AFL selection this year.
  • Kieran Strachan - His selection would require an act of desperation. However, with only ROB & Frampton as the only other ruckmen on the list, we may yet be desperate enough to select him.
There really isn't a lot there. Only a handful of players who are ready to go youngsters - McAdam, McPherson, Sholl, Davis & Butts. Every other player on that list has some sort of caveat on their readiness or ability.

EDIT: Updated because I missed 3 players.

We are in such a sh*t position. Playing all the kids without a good core of senior players is detrimental to their development, so we need them.

Playing the kids with a bunch of seniors who dont give a sh*t is equally as detrimental.

Based on this, do you play someone like McKay knowing they will give it everything every week over someone just coasting in the team?
No you don't ever play Mackay ever again. Guy shouldn't even be on our list. What you do is you play the kids. End of year you delist, early retire, trade your ass off. You then draft the most elite talent out there and trade some senior bodies to help the kids. Our current senior bodies don't give a shit about our kids or the club for that matter. They care solely about the pay cheque each month and doing as little as possible for it.

I'm confused...you want a Greenwood, CEY or Thommo, but don't want Matt Crouch?

Matt's the same type of mid as those three. Inside only and offers no defensive run.

There is a few we can at least try but damn no much coming through

Almost have to give some of these guys "one last chance" and play for your career.

Out of the list I would like to see McAdam, Scholl, Schoenberg, McPherson and Worrell. Missing off the list is Lachlan Gollant which shows promise but way to raw and needs to hit the gym for a few years before we see him.

Feel like Big E is another McKernan

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Davis a midfielder. Davis is a forward. And is quick. He is like a connector like Lynch I guess. Wing Half Forward. Nothing like the Crouches type.

Oops.. I missed the bottom row. Also missing are Strachan and Taylor. I went through the AFC website's player list, to make sure I didn't miss anyone - and managed to miss the entire bottom row. Doh!

I will update my previous post.
