Similar.

Shaun is a more gifted player but their mindsets aren't too far off.
if you want to rid yourselves of JJ, Ess is the place that could fall for it- Dodoro is a bit of a narcissist, he would love to round off the tale and prove he didn't fully lose a gun player for peanuts way back when...plus we are very short in the ruck/tall fwd area anyway...

Both giant bastards who have no idea how to actually use their weight and size.
Both like to reach for the ball instead of going through it, both on the ground and in the air.

sorry to intrude, I was looking about for news on a possible sholl call up when I saw this post...

seems eerily familiar with a guy we plucked off the scrap heap that used to be at your club, Shaun Mckernan - feels like we constantly have to massage his feelings to get him playing OK, if left to his own devices he will end up sulking in his own misery.

Do you see a likeness with JJ and Smack when he was there?
Yes and no. Josh is more the extravert, who probably needs the ego to be massaged a little, but generally I think struggles with complacency and the gut running that seperates talented, but inconsistent KPF’s from the superstars. I also think we spent too much time focusing on trying to make him Jono Brown/Tom Hawkins, by bulking him up and trying to teach him to crash packs, when we should have kept him sub 100kgs and focused on his gut running.

The issues you describe with Shaun sound like the exact same we experienced with Shaun. An introvert who lacks the confidence in his undoubted abilities and easily gets down on himself. Probably wasn’t helped by Neil Craig’s “make em or break em” kind of approach to development in his formative years. Shaun was looking really good in his first season, playing some really good, consistent footy at SANFL level, genuinely earned his debut, only to break his arm and subsequently rebreak it upon his return and never seemed the same player afterwards.

What do we do with Poholke?

Kid was unlucky to be dropped and responded with a great game in the twos. He deserves to come back in but I think Gallucci or Jones should come in for speed/team balance. Greenwood should be a lock and CEY played probably the best game of his career.

I tend to think he'll be the travelling emergency and first in if there's an injury, though I wouldn't be adverse to Harto being dropped. Knight and Lynch the other two who should be under a bit of pressure.

Unfortunately he's stuck behind a glut on inside-leaning midfielders and should probably stay there for now. I'd much rather he play midfield in the SANFL, rather than be stashed away on a forward flank, ultimately throwing out our team balance.

Only Gooch, Stengle and Jones should be in selection mix at the moment, as much as it sucks for Poholke. Only one of him or CEY can play alongside Mrouch and Greenwood imo.

Unless we're dropping CEY he doesn't really fit in ATM.

It is a shame that he only got the one game
I like his endeavour. Oh and attitude
I think we need pace and flexibility
Think Gooch might get the nod

With Dylan I think he is more Brouch or Sloane than CEY in that he is a mid sized midfielder who is quite good at going forward. I actually have him as a possible replacement to Knight who could go into the midfield rotation and sit up forward.

I had high hopes for Polhoke. But I think he's bland. There's nothing that he excels in. No real pace or break from a pack. No special prowess around the goals. No power kick of the Smithers ilk. It's unfortunate but unless he excels at a particular skill (preferably 2+) then we don't need him. Not saying he doesn't deserve it considering how his form is, but it's more about what he brings to our team and it's structure.

Francis would come at a cost, Draper is definitely a need though.
If we're talking Jordan Houlihan I'd much sooner persist with Ben Davis for another year or two, very similar players in that both are mercurial type players both capable of lighting up a game but go missing too often.

Disagree somewhat with that, he's exceptional overhead for a player of his size and has shown both at TAC lervel and SANFL level he's a mid capable of getting forward and hitting the scoreboard. Admittedly he's been a slow burn but this season he's really been stepping up to the plate and far exceeding his SANFL output of the past....now it's just up to giving him more opportunities at AFL level to see if he can transition that into the next level.

Think they rate Redman high, and Francis.. rumblings Orazio could be tempted home, Houlihan could be playing for his football life this year, hasn't really applied as well as hoped. Draper I reckon the one ade has already sounded out

Rumblings on Orazio? Bullshit ones? What’s his contract status?

This. Think he is building into a player.

Peter Wright won his position. 15 possessions 7 marks and 3.3 was a very good return in the circs.

Missed a couple of very gettable set shots too. Could easily have been 4 or 5 goals
Which Position, And how many Kicks and Gaols did he get when Witts was resting on the bench.

Maybe. He's definitely stepped up in the SANFL which is certainly good.

My main issue is how does he take the next step? He's not suited to half forward, or half back so there isn't an easy position to give him a season or so. Mind you, I'd be comfortable giving him 4-6 weeks in the midfield just to see if he does show something.

Mackay is the perfect example. Has a ripper and all you hear is "oh he wont do that for another 8 weeks now".
Has an element of truth but jeeze, just appreciate that he had a ripper.

In fact I think he's proven this year that he's best 22 (at the end of last year I had him out).
It's no surprise that if he is best 22, we are fighting for bottom 4 on the ladder though.

Theres no doubt in my mind though hes giving it his all for a new contract, and you just know once he gets one, it's back the shitty dmac.

2021, but equally it's proving more and more irrelevant how long he's signed for. Contracts aren't worth the paper they're written on for the club outside of being able to charge a premium to avoid being short changed by RFA compensation

We won't be anywhere near the bottom 4.
