Club were fuming apparently, and is part of the reason we’ve chartered a plane to get us back ahead of the GC game.

Can you imagine Coll.. oh wait never mind  A very professionally run competition isn’t it? Makes last year all the sweeter. We did win the flag right? Hard to tell reading certain comments on here LOL 😂

GC played in Adelaide twilight last Sunday and are playing already. It's only 1 week

Difference is you can fly directly to Adelaide. The normal flight to get to Geelong doesn’t actually take you to Geelong, hence chartering a flight there ourselves.

Come on....It's a 1 hour drive instead of 30 minutes....

I still believe we need to place far more emphasis upon ground level ball-getters and lose a specialist defender for another arc-to-arc midfielder; am putting something together that will further explain the reasoning behind this later on.

At the moment we're going with seven defenders with two of them being genuine talls. Seven defenders is pretty much the league norm, maybe if we managed to rotate Duggan or someone else through the middle. Last year we did at times play six defenders plus rotate Yeo through the back half and that could be another option.

If this is how we structure up then it's the front half that needs to lose some weight, Rioli or another small in at the expense of a tall forward and if you bring in Waterman at the expense of one the other three KPF's then you can structure back up with two rucks.

Perhaps the vision is we win enough ball and transition from defense well enough to bring Brander into the game with uncontested marks, he marks it up the ground and turns to see three tall forwards all moving then the forward line might function. Maybe they're playing him as a wingman but he looks like a mobile CHF and that means we're playing too tall forward of him. We'll just have to wait and see.

Honestly next game decides if oscar stays. The problem with oscar is he goes for the same ball as darling and jk....... and at times vardy but vardy can go for them since he s taller than both so hes not just taking up space. 3 talls only ever worked with Waterman cos he never goes after jk or darling ball. So all my fingers are pointing at allen for breaking our fwd structure

This.

Waterman plays high up the ground and creates space behind him. Always love what he brings.

Big reason we started the year well in 2018. Very underrated.

Also remember Allen role was Lecras role. Guess the number of times lecras clogged space/went after their ball 0. So either Allen fixes his paths to mark. Or i'd bring cameron/waterman in cos he probs plays closest to lecras.

I’m not as pessimistic about the game and not sure why.

The cigar shape of Kadina Park was similar to Subiaco which is were we still sometimes train and most of the squad have played many games at.

We are brining Cripps, Shuey, JK and Yeo back from an interrupted preseason so hopefully some gelling.

We were poor against Port so I am expecting a positive response.

Still 40% chance of rain so only 1 ruck is ok

We have a better balance with 1 more forward

Geelong are not the hardest nuts out there (Selwood aside) and have shown good Cats but also struggling Cats at times

Not seeing Cats defenders coping with the speed of Ryan and Petruccelle especially with Clark out

Not needing the 4 points to settle our season. Play with spirit and our brand and we can compete pretty well.

That Cats backline looks a tad slow and a tad tall against Cripps, Venables, Ryan and Petro. Thats where we either win or lose IMO. If we can hold the ball in and pressure the rebounds bythe Cats we will win. Cant allow easy ball rebounding

This Masten stuff is all well and good, but it doesn’t do anything to address the real elephant in the room...

What kind of photos or dirty secrets does Venables have over Simmo or the MC to get a game when he has done nothing to deserve it again?:think:

He plays a role we need this week, fast hf defensive and ground ball gets.

Sheed was playing more hf, now Redden is out Sheed goes back to do what he does best.

We were too tall, too slow in attack and lacked defensive pressure. Who would you bring in to to that job?

Venables was picked as a role player not on form.

I would have picked Matty Allen who is a good half forward player with a deadly left boot and is in better form.
