He was our most influential player on the ground when we played the Roos in the wet. Helped us win the game.

This year he played a decent game in the middle, then was kicked out for a crap Mrouch.

You are not the best judge of fringe players as you quickly write them off...
Remember the old joke - "Why does everyone hate Bronwyn Bishop instantly? It saves time coming to the same conclusion".

Dots is just Grigg Mk II - a good SANFL footballer, with very little to offer at AFL level.

Chayce Jones was the only 2nd year player in the team last night. (By 2nd year I mean 2nd year of actually playing games, not 2nd year in the system).

Good to see all the kids that Pyke debuted last year blossoming... oh wait...
2018 - Draft - Jones, McHenry, Hamil, Sholl
This is their second year in the system. Jones played games in his first year in 2019.

Combination of O'brien cant jump and mids are poor. But they do seem to break even around the ground during stoppages where Obrien can just wrestle and nullify.
Anyone see a concerning trend here re Centre ball ups opposed to Stoppage ball ups and Boundary Ball ins? And why the general anomaly between our centre ball up clearances where we're getting pantsed opposed to Stoppage/Ball in Clearances where we're relatively competitive. West Coast game in point. Why are our on ballers relatively competitive clearance wise around the ground but getting pantsed at the centre ball ups? Thank fu** with shortened quarters there's less goal scoring.

In this footage last night I highlighted a number of Matt Crouch's fails:

--

In the footage are a number of center bounces.

- The first one is a Ryder tap to Matt Crouch's man (Matt is 3m behind within half a second).
- The second is a Ryder tap to space, again Matt is miles behind his man.
- The third O'Brien taps directly to Matt but Steele rips it off him
- The fourth again O'Brien taps to where Matt or Brad should have been, but where the St Kilda player had worked to
- The fifth Ryder taps directly to where Matt is and he can't even be bothered bending over to pick it up
- The sixth O'Brien taps it to Jones who can't quite run onto it, then the Crouch brothers let it out the back
- The seventh the ball goes to ground and our players can't get it, again Matt lets it out
- The eighth Ryder taps directly to where Brad is running to, but Brad handballs it straight up in the air to a flat footed Matt who is 3m away under pressure

It's not O'Brien who is getting pansted at center stoppages, it's our ******* abysmal midfield. In fact in none of these eight occasions is O'Brien jumped all over and only on one occasion could you say a midfielder was even remotely given "silver service" by Ryder

Yes he's having a rough year but fk, if you're putting all the errors in this video on him you've clearly never played football, his handballs out the back of the stoppage are not different to what he was doing in 2017, the players around the stoppage have to create their own space as well. this video is somewhat eye-opening in the lack of support he's getting inside the stoppage in regard to blocks and creating space something Sloane in previous years has been great at. Matt is a quality player just needs an organised and balanced midfield which we don't have.

I actually had a look at the Essendon team we are playing and don’t think we need to replace Hartigan like for like this week. As it stands they have Mckernan as a KPF, but the rest look medium sized at best, which we have plenty of coverage for without a 2nd KPD.

I’d say bring in Strachan to play FWD/2nd ruck and send McAsey back when and if he is needed.

With Strachan, McAsey and McAdam up front we actually have a nice balance between lead up players Tex and Lynch, and contested marking players. Much more difficult to defend for the oppo IMO

Both Crouch brothers are playing like they know that they are out at seasons end. We must keep playing them though as their value will drop. Nicks must challenge both to take some risks. Sloane fully fit would take the pressure off them big time. If we do decide to drop one it has to be Matt. Replace Matt with Gibbs on his last chance at least Gibbs can kick. Jones out for Schoenberg and Hartigan for Butts or Worrell.

Gibbs could kick, not can kick, his disposal has gone to sheizzen houssen along with most of his previous skill set the last 18 months or so..

ROB loses the centre bounces in a ratio of 3:1 or worse. He's utterly hopeless at centre bounces - he's barely an improvement over Tex Walker in that regard. The fact that the Crouch brothers are incapable of getting their hands on it, on the rare occasions when he does actually win a tap, does not absolve ROB of failing to win enough taps in the first place.

How do you quantify a ruckman 'losing the centre bounce'?

I still think Brad has been pretty good for us this year.. he isnt at his best thats for sure but he’s not been as bad as some round here are claiming..

Matt on the other hand has been horrid.. he looks slow and unfit.. i wonder if he’s carrying an injury because he just can’t seem to run.. when he runs he looks like hes trying to do it in a way that is reducing pressure on his body.. with a funny little “waddle” almost as if he has lower back issues causing him grief..

Is his still getting hamstring stiffness I wonder.. lower back and hamstrings go hand in hand.

Something just doesnt look right when watching him IMO..

Mind you... This is not ignoring the fact that his skills have fallen away and he seems disinterested too.

His best footy should still be in front of him.. but instead he looks like a bloke who is 350 games in, worn out and ready for retirement!

Speaking of poor midfield efforts, we've focussed on Matt, but how about that play where there was a whistle (no one would have known what it was for) and Brad Crouch just stopped while the saints players ran forward and eventually were paid advantage? Jones was the player who ended up having to put pressure on. There are no excuses for that and I hope it was highlighted after the game. Really sums up where we're at.

Nicks did hint at a 2nd ruck after the match
But he’s hinted at getting in a second ruck after matches a couple if times this season.. then bought a second ruck in, either frampton or himmelburg or both, the next week... only to drop them again the following week... then hint a needing a second ruck again!..

I’m stating to get the feeling he’s in way over his head.. and he’s just making this shit up as he’s going along..

To be fair... everyone stopped.. even Jones for a split second or two.. it was only the little ****wit diver Gresham that kept running..
