Other ruckman credited with more hitouts, and more hitouts to advantage?
Most hit outs are useless. Even most hit outs to advantage are subjective.

I can remember two clear hit outs from Ryder where it looked to be on purpose and it managed to favour their players. Even then you're relying on the ball to bounce the right way or for the opposition players not to be there. Even the way the ball is bounced or thrown up by the umpire adds to the randomness that is a centre bounce hit out.

On Monday we rotated seven players through our back six (plus cameos from Laird, Mackay, Smith and McAsey).
Brown (average) Talia (average) Doedee (fantastic) Kelly (average) Hartigan (poor) Hamill (poor) McPherson (good)
Out - Hartigan, In - Butts. Kelly and Brown on notice

We split the inside mid time almost equally between Mrouch, Brouch, Jones and Keays.
Keays (reasonable) Brouch (below average) Jones (poor) and Mrouch (shocking)
Out - Mrouch, In - Schoenberg

We gave 4 players meaningful minutes on the wing, Seedsman (poor) Laird (reasonable) Mackay (below average) and McHenry (below average).
Why did Smith play most of the game forward with a brief cameo in defence and on the wing?
I would like to drop both Mackay and Seedsman and bring in Sholl but 4 debutants aint gunna happen.

Out - Mackay or Seedsman Move Brodie Smith back to the wing.

We rolled 8 players through the wasteland called the Crows forwardline. Lynch (O.K.) Walker (O.K.) Laird (O.K.) McAdam (some good signs) Smith (MIA) McAsey (poor) Stengle (poor) McHenry (poor)

In - Strachan Smith moves to the wing.

Overall Out - Hartigan, Mrouch, Mackay In - Butts, Schoenberg, Strachan

Surely for next week's midweek game we look to change half of the side to keep the players fresh.

We should be thinking about picking our 22 for the next 3 weeks with a view to player management.
Unlikely. Every team playing us will drop half their team and we will play full strength whatever that is. Full strength in their eyes will likely be playing every cooked older player we can muster chasing that elusive win. I see us going the opposite of every other club.

2018 GF.

Grundy belted Lycett/Vardy in Ruck.

Eagles win the centre breaks 11 to 9. And the Premiership.

The overall quality of the midfield is more important than the Ruckman.

The hit out stat is somewhat meaningless.

For us it's clearly we don't have the right players or right mix of players, or our structures and coaching is wrong. Bit A lot of both really

I wonder if we liked what we saw of Hartigan up forward?
Honestly, I have wanted to see this for a few years. I would like to see him get 2 games forward to see if he could be used as a cheap option for the remaining 3 years of his career. Tex will be retiring soon, Himmelberg is likely a bust. Need someone to support Fog and Frampton while our likely number 1 draftee progresses.

Sadly no. I know exactly what they will do. The win will be prioritised ahead of getting games into the future. Ironically we are more chance of getting a win by playing younger players but their general mistrust of youth will more than likely lead to more of what we have seen over the last couple of weeks. I hope i am pleasantly surprised but the club is if anything predictable.

There is no way he is slower than Semi circle Crouch at his current trot.

Crouch has a lot of the Matt Connells about him, does a 180 every time he gets the ball. Grow some balls and kick it forward, hell maybe even kick it to a contest, that'd be a pleasant change. He was the player who played to advantage by running backwards. Jesus Christ, that's how bad we're going.

Another opportunity for the club to play the ‘Thursday Omission for a Sunday game’ card. Send a statement

Come on Nicks, time to show some a bit of backbone at the selection table. I feel like we are slipping right back into the old ways these last 2-3 weeks.
Yep, at the very least drop Matt tonight

While I don't disagree with your overall rationale, one of the approaches this club must take is not hanging onto sus players for their 'remaining career'. Accomodating them with a gold pass because they 'look the goods' or 'they prepare well' or they 'train the house down' has got to stop. Hartigan has always faltered under pressure or responsibility. No more stop gap feel-good measures from here forward with personnel. That's not what happens on the football field.

We aren't likely to drop senior guys after our "best" performance of the year.

We should, but we won't.

Unless of course we are going to flick the side around during the next 5 games which I fully expect us to do. No doubt we will see Knight and Gibbs in the next 3 weeks.
