We have not lost a single game due to team selection this season and will not next week.

Yes there will be some posters gnawing about selections but any changes will be around the periphery.

We have a good solid game plan, are better accross the board than the hocs, good coaching panel and if any player who played in last years elimination final is not chomping at the bit for significant revenge they should go a play lawn bowls.

Other than significant consistent player errors no matter who is in or out we should be beating the Hocs

I think our draw is easy enough that we make finals anyway without needing to win this. I also don't think we are making top four regardless. This game feels like a bit of a free swing to me.

I remember once when Geelong laid 30 tackles in a loss v Collingwood. They of course played us at Alphabet the following week and tackled like madmen in a win. 110 tackles I think. Bevo will remember that.

You just know they’re going to come out breathing fire after the hiding they cop in the media this week. We’ll need to be on our game for this one
Ginni says they’re bringing out the mouthguards for training...

Serious question- wouldn’t players normally wear mouth guards to training? I would have thought match sim or even an accidental head clash in a tackling drill would be a risk when the solution is as simple as wearing a mouth guard.

Yep probably... but obviously the message is they're going to go hard at training in preparation for us.

Doesn't mean much considering they should have been doing that last night after last week's game

To be fair, weren't they meant to last night?
They may have lost the previous couple but last night was the first time in a while since I’ve heard commentary, journos and even the head coach turn up the heat on his players. It seems the narrative may finally have shifted away from being the media darlings of past 12 months.

They will re group this week and have seen the blue print Geelong used against us last week in terms of pressure. They will be at us from the start, up to us to stand up and weather the storm. If we can then it could open up for us in the second half.

Cleary, Dureya and to a lesser extent Baker all had shockers v Geelong and Hawthorns small/medium forwards are a big threat. I have no confidence on the above 3 potentially playing on any of Watson, Ginnivan, Hardwick and Moore. Gunston always kills us but Lobb and JOD should be ok for Gunstan and Chol.

In: Treloar and Jaques
Out: Baker and Dureya

Despite that, still should have beaten Geelong fairly comfortably

Whoever comes in must be ready for the expected pressure and combativeness from the Hawks. Treloar if he's fit, most certainly. But I wouldn't be bringing in a debutant. Even Cleary is still pretty inexperienced. Duryea at least is a hardened campaigner (in the original sense of the word). I'd like Cleary to be given more opportunity if they think he's ready for the onslaught. If not, Duryea can stay in.

We got Coffield for Duryea - then Duryea got the blue pill and started to play better and has kept him out. Coffield has has injuries again but is starting to show form - I reckon he only a few weeks away.

Jacques looks good but not sure he is physically ready for defence in the AFL.

McNeil has improved and gets goals regularly but these are low pressure only and tend to come in the last quarter when the pressure is low - just don’t trust him. Dolan looks special - just has great hands under pressure - opposite of McNeil.

If Darcy is back then Darcy, Naughty and Buku is a great tall combo. Buku is a great replacement for Cody as a medium and is growing in confidence by game.

We can have contributors in each spot.

Buku Darcy West

VDM Naughton Kennedy/Bont

Given Darcy a week away.

Backline is where changes should come: JOD and Lobb good and Dale, Cleary is looking OK as is JJ. Baker and Bramble under the pump. Duryea had a very poor early game but did some things later - looks cooked - one of my favourite players - but he is more an indication that we don’t have small defenders who can defend against good smalls and this is Hawthorns strength with 3/4 very good.

We also had Jones having a field day in the VFL last week - he is too good to leave out and JOD can play on mediums. Buss and Gards in the best and Coffield getting back to form.

Def match ups need three.

Chol - Lobb
Gunston - Jones
Weddle/Sicily - JOD
Ginnivan - Cleary
Watson - JJ
Moore - Dale

Int: Bramble - may need to smalls.

In outs:

In: Trelor, Jones and Coffield (maybe - is he quick enough? If not Bramble in from sub and Coff or give Jacques a go.)

Out: McNeil, Baker and Duryea (maybe)
