Such as Nelson instead of Butler?

I like Butts (and I cannot lie), but would've thought Nelson is more versatile.

I know we don't have the depth of information that the MC has, but this is a strange call.
Maybe Nelson is a bit sore, but then he's the emergency isn't he so that doesn't make much sense? Can't fathom what the coaches and match committee are thinking with some of these selections or lack thereof. Mind you not sure there's anybody in the 2s knocking on the door.

With us trying to get a top four spot I'd love to know what the logic is in retaining a player who's been completely underwhelming.
If butler came In for Tunbridge it would give us 1 too many defenders and 1 short in the forward line . Who out of Nelson and butler would play forward ?
Which other forward would you bring in over Tunbridge that is in form ?

Is Tunbridge in form? If so I'd hate to see him play when he's out of form.

When he gets to the opposition he tackles well, but it most often just looks like he's lumbering after them, slipping over whenever he has to change directions, and then taking an eternity to come to a stop if the ball is jarred loose.

He's like a hybrid between McGinnity and Q Lynch

We talking Tunners or Darling?

He's the least of all evils really.

To be fair to Tunbridge every time he starts playing well he gets injured so I guess the logic is that he is being offered a consistent crack, something he hadn't really had.

But having said that, I'm not getting my hopes up.

You would have to be joking! Gov is too good in the backline to take him out of there - Ezy is so out of form/lacking in confidence and Jetta appears to not give a f**k. Our hands are tied I think as we don't have anybody in form to bring in.

Honestly Tunbridge is a spud ....who will get less than 12 touches and turn it over under heat

Anyone is better than him

Not stoked to see Tunbridge still in the team but I think I understand what the club is trying to do.

Highly unlikely we're there at the pointy end of the season so the club is considering risk v reward on certain players as well as who gets another contract and who gets delisted on others.

Tunbridge fits both these categories, and as a quick big bodied half forward he also has a couple of traits we're lacking. If it all comes together and he has 15 touches and 3 goals it could have an impact on the end result. If he fails and we lose, well who gives a shit because we were likely to lose anyway. The slight silver lining is it also makes the delisting decision easier to make.

I like Nelson but he's not up for discussion when it comes to being delisted and while he's been a solid player in his first couple of seasons, he's not at the stage where he's going to change the course of a game.

He may not be at the stage, and he may never get to the stage, of turning a game, but that's not the criteria for holding your spot is it? This isn't a die in The ditch type POV, but I think he had a better game than Hutchings, has more ceiling than him and brings a bit more of Simmo's flexibility.

I think possibly the only thing going against him is his potential lack of endurance. Someone was saying he had relatively low minutes, which could compromise our rotations.

Yep, totally agree it's not the criteria for holding your spot and I think Nelson could feel like he's been treated harshly this year due to his age and lack of reputation. But at this stage of the season I can see why the club is considering more than just last week's game for selection.

We must have the thinnest list of players capable of playing afl outside of our 22.

Even our offseason recruits are in the magoos... doesn't bode well for culture or morale at the club

So we have a problem with our midfield, and in response we play a young guy through the middle who used the ball well, gets 4 or 5 good clearances when the heat was on, and more possessions than a fair chunk of the rest of our mids despite limited time, and he gets dropped.
I'm sorry but playing the same old blokes who are not up to it every week while dropping kids who show plenty of potential is madness. I think making the GF last year has made our club over rate this list badly. We will get spanked this week....

The coach obviously rates him. Remember Simpson's comments a couple of pre-seasons ago that Tunbridge had been very impressive and was a dead cert for round 1. Unfortunately did a hammy and couldn't get going after that.

And yet a guy who can barely pick up the ball gets 3 games in a row

Thing is it feels like the odds are stacked against these guys, certainly in Nelson's case. Did enough to warrant staying in. Could feel gipped getting dropped. I can understand them bringing Butts back, but certainly he has done enough to push Hutchings out. But then gets taken as the emergency on an away game. So no chance to continue to push for selection and our MC don't seem to like playing the emergency from the previous week because they'd be understandably short of a hitout. FMD, so back to the WAFL to bust a gut to try and get back in the team, while guys like Hutchings who have been quiet for weeks, and really are not giving us what we need in the short term and are unlikely to do so in the medium to long term continue to get a run. Frustrating.

It's as though the MC seems to lack the flexibility that it is so keen for the players to show.
