Is this an actual rule though or just an idea of this board? Stemming from seeing natural attacking players relegated to boring roles off half back.
Longmuir did make the comment, but it may have been a generalization. Which moves by Longmuir have you noticed to indicate that it isn’t a core coaching philosophy of his?

updated post injury list:

Ryan - Hamling - Cox
Young - Pearce - Wilson
Acres - Cerra - Aish
Fyfe - Tabs - Frederick
Schultz - Treacy - Henry

Meek - Brayshaw - Serong

Mundy - Tucker - Watson and 1 of (in order) Conca, Hughes, chapman, blakely,

Colyer before Henry...for now.

3 reasons why..
He's played better
Bigger body
No one on our list has played more games at the MCG..it is a certainty.

Conca may have played more at the MCG..

I think Justin has pretty well indicated (by his selections) that Conca and Hughes are going to be playing, so I reckon the unlucky one in your list will be Watson - he is a favourite of mine but his game was very average on the weekend. Think there is also a possibility that Treacy gets passed on as well (where are you Logue???? he could help with some of these issues).

yeah, it's just what I want, not necessarily what I think will happen.

One thing that was apparent from watching from a good position at the ground on Sunday was how clear it was that poor kicks, slow kicks and slow decision making was punished. WC would get a hand to it or disrupt the mark, the ground ball would shoot out to a player waiting behind the new formed pack and a kick would start their rebound and punishment on the scoreboard. That's how WC plays and gets much of their scores. Any player that causes these turnovers, IMO which included Conca and Hughes on the weekend is a liability. That's why I have three of the best kicks in Ryan, Young and Wilson as the ball movers from the D50.

That's the reason why, if we ever secured a contested marking tall that never dropped a mark, we would run through the corridor the entire time but until such time we will kick long to a spoil and hopefully mark by the boundary that allows the side to defend it better than a direct turnover in the corridor .

Yeah I liked your thinking. Just not sure our coaching staff are that serious about eliminating the poor kicks from the side. Funnily enough most of Blakely's poor disposal was by hand. He was good by foot for the most part. Hughes is the hard one for me. Good in lots of ways but keeps slowing down the play and missing his targets.

By going with a smaller forward line up we could run some teams off their legs, look at some of the pace we could have in the forward line, Frederick, Switkowski, Henry, Colyer with Fyfe and Mundy spending plenty of time forward supporting Tabs. Remember what Richmond did a few years ago without Tom Lynch, we would be very unpredictable. Especially against a team like Melbourne who lack pace as well.

Probably need one more big body up there to stop defenders sagging off. Otherwise, going quick and small will be ok.

That's fine and sounds great, as long as we're disciplined and regularly lower the eyes for these targets.

Realistically though, it aint going to happen. Melbourne will push numbers back, clog up our forward line, and we will inevitably revert to bombing long to the supposed "hot spot". The connection between our half back sand mids with our forward line is nowhere near good enough for this strategy to work unfortunately.

We need some tall timber up there to at least create a good contest, and maybe then, some of those players you mention might be a chance for a crumb. My fear is May and Lever will take eleventy billion intercept marks and my cat will be in serious trouble!

Given our shitty management with recruiting forwards maybe we should prioritize blooding cyclone up foward?

too green, setting him up for failure does not help his development.
I think he plays coming off the bench to ruck against Jackson & spend some minutes up forward. If we have one injury to a tall during the game, our structure goes out the window.
Alternatively if Darcy is ready, he plays the same role because there’s no way he’s running out a full game. Minutes as a 2nd ruck & time up forward. If Gawn gets on top of Meek, Darcy could then spend time v Gawn, but I think Meek should have first crack.
I like your 22, but would swap out Switta for Treacy, with Treacy to the bench.

I dunno. He's got a more mature body than Naughton, English and the two King boys had when they started, and we're not flush for choices
He is 193cm, not sure its worth putting him in the ruck.

Our expectations for a key forward at the moment aren't super high either. It's not like he is rolling in as a pick #1 to 5 and carrying the weight of the pick. It's also clear that he would be playing because the senior player is injured.

He takes a few marks, lays a few tackles, kicks a goal or two and it's a good game. If we win, it's a great game for a debut.

Depends now on the fickle Melbourne weather. If wet I wouldn't risk Darcy, play Fyfe mostly forward, Meek rucking with a chop out from Cox who plays back. Fyfe and Tabs to bring it to ground and play smalls and Frederick around them.
If dry and assuming Darcy ok then he is main ruck, drop a small, Meek and Tabs both forward and Fyfe more drifting between mid and occasional forward like we want to play him.

I don't want to overreact but after yesterday we'll kick 1 all year.
Look how WCE structured up, a lot of possession winners in their back half. Until we learn to work our way through that setup, they'll keep doing it.

Walters had a few choice turnovers as well. I thought we had poor decision making coupled with allowing the WCE player to follow up on their disposal.

Depends on weather but you have to RUN against the Demons. Colyer, Frederick, Aish, Acres as long as they keep running we'll go alright. I'd even consider moving Young up to the wing if Wilson is good to go.
