Play your best defenders in the defense. Griffin Logue would better help us win games as a lockdown defender on opposing small forwards than he would in the forward line. Simple as.

If we have to use defenders as forwards I'd rather go with Chapman who has good instincts and can take a snag but isn't going to weaken our defense by moving him.

Yeah the Cox forward argument is like the Fatty McGovern forward argument. Would do well at it but still better and more valuable to use as a defender.

Fyfe is the Pavlich of 2020s. Time to play CHF in the twilight of his 20s. Be stupid not to.
Treacy will be ordinary but at least he might improve. Meek or Darcy forward will be just as ordinary without the scope for serious development.

The King brothers have been debuting from round 1 practically a year after they were drafted and they’re three years off their prime bodies. St Kilda are contending for top 4 and King is right there as vital to that.
Dont see why not with Treacy.
Cox debuted young. He’s going alright.
Lyon tried to go the ‘develop and mature’ route with Tabs. Absolute waste.

How come no one has suggested Mundy forward? frees Fyfe up for important middle duties and he has done a solid job forward

To me, Cox has earnt the right to be the first choice defender after his promising 2020 and apparently career best pre-season. He could potentially follow his mate to an inaugural all-Australian in 2021, I reckon it could be bad player management to push him to the forward line after all the work he's put into being a defender.

Pearce, I dont like the idea of because he's so fragile and didn't look very good when he played forward the last time. Chapman would be really exciting I think, has massive arms, great speed and is a natural footballer. Hamling was drafted as a forward so could be a good option too.

If our coaching panel had any smarts..Chapman or Hamling will line up in the Fwd line. Pearce, Cox, Ryan and 1 of Hamling/Chapman is enough as the talls down back.

It makes perfect sense to play one of them as that 2nd or 3rd tall up front.

I’m warming to the idea of Pearce forward. Cox has earnt the right to settle in defence. Chapman and Watson are as experienced as Treacy. Which leaves Hammer or Pearce.

And in a perverted sense, Pearce has been so injury prone that he’d be the least missed out of the backline. Yeah he struggled up forward last time, but last time he was young and still settling into the team. He’s got experience on his side now.

If Chapman plays, which I doubt, that would make sense to play Hamlng forward.
Lever is one of those defenders Mayne in his pomp would have been playing on, and I can see Hamlng forward doing what Mayne used to do.
But I don't think it will happen as I don't think Chapman will play and I reckon we'll play all of Hamlng, Pearce and Cox back with Cox pinchitting as the second ruck. I'm not saying that is ideal but I think that's what will happen.

Pearce can't kick.

Hamling meh. Ok.

Chapman looks competent by foot.

If Pearce marks i50. It won't end well unfortunately. You would at least think Chapman is 50/50 chance at goal. Thats how i see it.

Agree ...Last time Pearce was tried forward the dept in his kicking was really exposed.

My thoughts in order -Hamling then Chapman then Cox (Cox's kicking on goal when tried forward was meh but he is a different player now )

Don’t see why Chapman should be under so much pressure in his 1st game. Let the kid come off the bench ffs, then let’s see where he is needed. He’s a ten year player if we don’t screw it up

Hey lads, who would you guys expect to be your backup ruck this year with lobb out?
Sean Darcy is the main ruck when fit.

Meek has Been on the list in the 2018-2020 seasons and remarkably hasnt played a dockers game. He has good form coming in and is certain to Debut in round 1.

Cox is only 193 cm but isnt too bad pinch hitting at CHF.

Does any one remember the time Ross threw Pearce forward? It was horrible viewing.

I do he couldn’t kick straight but that was a long, long time ago in his first or second season. He was a skinny bean pole but he’s a physically different player now and so much more mature & wise.

You would expect him to make a much better fist of it this time. I think he would surprise a lot of people. My concern would be putting him in the ruck, although he’s got the height he’s so fragile I would be concerned of more injuries.

Pearce forward is an awful choice. Great body work and mobility for a defender but gee he would be awkward as a forward. Doesnt have the footballing nous or agility to be a forward.

Yep we need to find that Hogan replacement and maybe he's right under our noses and we ain't seen it yet .

Alright how about something crazy? How about we play Ryan up foward as he's a great mark and has a big leap on him? Imagine winning AA in the defence and fowardline?
I'm Up for anything that's not the same old defensive , slow ball movement shit that we have dished up the last 6 years
