Cos he does the odd really good looking thing in amongst his rubbish? He is a tease but most of his game is still rubbish. Go and fix it imo and play someone who is closer to being the finished product. It might turn around quickly but he still needs to earn his spot.

Just a bit over the top with your bashing of Johnson. He is actually earning his spot. He's not in the worst players each week, and there's nobody in the WAFL that is any better.

Do you appreciate the need for bigger bodies in the midfield? If Young, Fyfe, O'Driscoll were all fit, then maybe he gets a spell. But at the moment he is the best big bodied midfielder we have alongside Ras, and both of them should be playing in the current starting lineup.

His disposal clearly needs work, but that doesn't get fixed at WAFL level. He needs to be exposed to the higher pressure and pace at AFL level and learn to adjust.

I know he’s a fan favourite with the Freo faithful but the three tall forwards plus Jackson roaming is too much.

Voss still gets in the way of Amiss and clogs up the forward 50. Our i50’s revert to the ole pack to pack school lunchtime kick. Our players going i50 see a bunch of talls and just pump it long. There are that many players there including the opposition ruck making it easier for the oppo small/mediums to clear the ball and transition into attack.

We were too tall down back and now too tall up forward.

Darcy if cleared from the knee jarring needs to build match conditioning at Peel.

I liked Oscar’s footy IQ and flexibility in ruck and backline.

Ras to play a full game. NOD to wing, Freddy back to high half forward or even sub. Switta needs to go to Peel. I was surprised he didn’t and nothing last night changed my mind.

In: McDonald, Ras, NOD
Out: Darcy, Voss, Switta
Sub: Reid or Freddy

He didn't "burn just about every ball he gets". He definitely needs to improve, especially the goal kicking, but he wasn't a stand out turnover merchanct. Ryan, Serong, Clark, Chapman, Simpson, Bolton, Treacy all had the same or more turnovers.

We can't afford to lose his size. We are way too small around the ball as it is. He should be played more as an inside midfielder. Start most of the centre bounces.
64% disposal efficiency, 4/22 turnovers, 0.3 gettable goals. Not to mention his awful i50 kicks. I have been bullish on Johno from day one because he clearly has the talent but his decision making and disposals are a problem. Idk how he's going to improve it because he clearly doesn't have footy IQ. At the very least he needs to kick those goals.

We have poor disposal efficiency because he have a poor system that doesn’t open up the ground. All our kicks need to be pinpoint perfect because there is no space.

If we had a gameplan that created space, our skills would look better. The Collingwood ran towards space and they usually took a mark in that space.

At the beginning of the season I highlighted Johnno as being pivotal to our midfields success. Not many people agreed but it looks like everyone is starting to come around.

Imo blaming his skills and footy IQ on the coach is a cop out (even though it would make a difference). His decision making is not great and you can't blame his handballs to people's feet on the coach. I have been a very big believer in him since being drafted and I maintain that belief. But he needs to work on the skills and most importantly his goal kicking. He is approaching 50 games so it will probably take another 50 to iron out these issues but it falls on him. I think he would greatly benefit from having Mundy as a personal mentor.

Can work on it elsewhere. Doesn't selection integrity mean anything. We have a team full of players we have to make excuses for.

For how long?

For however long he is in the best 22 and deserves his selection. You keep talking about selection integrity, but Johnson is in the team on merit currently. I would agree in the past he has been favoured a bit over Erasmus, but where we are at now, both of them deserve to be chosen when there are no better alternatives available.

Not having better alternatives is subjective and being selected for that reason does not mean he is there on merit. It means he is there by default. He isn't the only one I am referring to. We have many players in the team that we should question whether they should be getting a game every week without question. Johnson is just the most easily replaced. Although Ryan might be getting close. Hard to imagine Davies or McDonald doing much worse. We have let the limitations in too many players go for too long. imo. We have been talking about this same stuff for 6 years under JL and even further back than that. At what point do we just have some non negotiables that are harder to achieve than in little league.

Opinions being as diverse as they are re Johnson’s kicking - we need a brave soul to go back and watch his last few games to analyze how many of his kicks actually made it to be marked by a team mate or scored a goal. I am guessing sub 25%!

I thought Voss looked good as the third forward who was then pushed into the ruck.

With Jackson back I think we should have just kept him out, and if we had someone like Sturt ready I think we would have.
If Darcy misses like expected Voss should stay in, otherwise he should be out.

I honestly thought they might make Voss sub, but didn't turn out that way.

Luckily they didn’t, because Voss is the only one really adding grunt with Amiss easily pushed off the ball.
I don’t mind persisting with Darcy / Jackson with the 3 talls.
It means Darcy can go to the bench rather than resting forward.

Erasmus cant get the ball like Johnson does, doesn't move around the ground like Johnson does. Johnson is a better kick than Erasmus even though he makes bad decisions at the end of the chain
decisions >>> good kick

only sometimes though. fyfe is a worse kick than johnson. however fyfe at his peak (early 2015) was the highest score involvement player ever recorded. in a team which was not very high scoring.

GWS will go a month of footy without a win and then pants Freo next week. Can’t have Cox on Hogan again. Needs a spell. OMac to replace him.
Nothing I've seen from Omac so far suggests he'd be better than Cox, solid depth but he's no world beater.

Cox/Ryan to Cadman/Stringer, Pearce to Hogan?

IMO this is coaching issues.. I never see our forward line isolating players, doing anything different. Coaching and tactical fails.

Just looking at GWS rucks - Kieren Briggs's back up has been Callum Brown & Jake Riccardi over the last 5 games even though Lachlan Keeffe started for their first 3 games but has been playing VFL since Rd 4. (Geez, Keeffe is 35yo).

I’m at the depression stage where I feel the inevitable predictability of our selection.
Switta won’t be dropped ever.
Ditto Frederick even though he’s the biggest downhill skier in the side & should be sent to Peel until he remembers how to tackle & put his body on the line.
Darcy will be rushed back in despite being a liability.
O’Mac won’t get a look in despite showing more football IQ than most of the blokes out there (guess who was playing when we beat Adelaide and how many scores he was involved in).
Erasmus will be dropped after 15 minutes of football where he actually looked ok at the level.

Rinse & repeat.

Sorry for my negativity lately. This season is doing a real number on me as I thought we might actually be contenders. Instead we’re the joke of the league. Again.

Amiss is completely expendable , he’s been well below par for most of his last 20 games if we are being honest ( lol ) and playing 4 tall fwds is the stupidest decision of all out of a long long list

Jackson , Voss and Treacy are ok chasers for talls but our other fwds are the worst bunch in the comp

It’s making our backline look way worse than it is

We have a talented but ineffective list with the way the games played these days and the failure to address this is not just on JLo but golden balls Walls as well , but sure everyone give him a wristy for picking another player that looks good but does sweet **** all to address our clear weaknesses

Switta is going like a busted but can you really drop the only bloke who can address your biggest weakness if he gets going again

Out - Darcy , Amiss

In - Raz , NOD ( hallelujah)
