A measure of the depth of despair being experienced by Fremantle supporters: some normally rational people are calling for the return of Banfield for next week’s game.
What hurts is
1. Poor performance of the AFL squad
2. Lack of depth virtually no one in WAFL playing well.
3. Poor injury run with several players.

The big question is, is this a temporary issue?
Or a big issue with squad that will take multiple years to fix ?

A measure of the depth of despair being experienced by Fremantle supporters: some normally rational people are calling for the return of Banfield for next week’s game.

It's the circle of life for this current era of Fremantle.

Out: Banfield

He kicks 3 goals in a quarter starting sub or some other shit like that

In: Banfield.

Reality is it is deckchairs on the titanic

Regardless of whether Darcy is fit he should not play. Our best football has come from Jackson being solo ruck and being backed up by Voss. Darcy needs time - it's not his fault and it doesn't mean it's the end for him - it's just giving him what he needs, time to actually get fit. He has gone through a transformation and should be removed from the AFL team to give him the time and space to learn his craft again at his new weight.

Our team is also unbalanced at the moment with too many talls.

So, out: Darcy
In: NOD

It's super frustrating that we have so many forwards injured right now. Ideally, we would move Bolton to midfield semi-permanently and bring in another forward. Perhaps put Erasmus into the position he was drafted - put Erasmus into Frederick's role as the half-forward running man. He's not soft like Frederick. Give Freddy a different role.

I think we can move the magnets around with success without changing who is in the team.

Out: Darcy, Reid (rested)

In: NOD, Banfield (sub)

NOD is the only available player outside the 23 that actually makes us better, the rest is just shuffling. I think resting Reid would serve him well for the rest of the season.

Out
Freddy
Amiss
Young

In
O'Mac (back) Cox forward
Erasmus
O'Driscoll

Man up on Darcy Jones and Callaghan
Why not take our Switta. Apparently he’s the hit up guy between defence and forward. He sucks.
Put Frederick in that role, have Reid and Dudley the Smalls. It’s too confusing up forward.

The team we are putting out there is too small and young to win now. The midfield is tiny. I would prioritize size in the mids even if we have to sacrifice quality - ie at least one of Johnson, Erasmus, Brodie or even Banfield need to be playing midfield at all times. Shift Brayshaw out to the wing more, Serong forward more.
It’s not our best setup on paper but it needs to happen to compete with the bigger mids that are bullying us every week.
What a load of crap. Move Serong forward who is the #1 clearance and #1 centre clearance player in the comp. Now I’ve heard it all!?! Also Brayshaw is #12 for centre clearance this year. This BS about not having a “big bodied midfielder makes no sense. Bolton who went into the midfield against Collingwood absolutely dominated and he is very slight in build. Some one says “we need more big bodied midfielder” and people just join the chorus. Having some big bodies can help but that isn’t was is hurting us, it’s our midfield/Forward connection

Serong, Brayshaw and Young spend a huge amount of time in the centre square. This is why they are so high on that rating. If you spend 80% of the game in the middle, then you will get a lot of clearances, other sides have a lot more variety in the middle.

The important point is are we winning the midfield battle at the moment? I think the answer to that is a very simple, no.
Melbourne, Bulldogs, Geelong, St Kilda we got badly beaten in the middle.
Collingwood, Swans, Richmond we broke even.
It was only Adelaide and Eagles we got on top.

The harder question is how do we improve things,

I think we need to add a 4th and 5th midfielder to the rotation, to make us less predictable and more dangerous.

I like the idea of playing Young back or Forward, and using him in the middle as part of the 2nd rotation.

It means we need to find another starting mid, be that Johnson, Erasmus, or via trade or the draft.

Other options is to add more part of mids to your rotation e.g. Bolton, Clark, ... all play 10 to 15 minutes in the midfield.

If we could pull off a draft like this, then maybe that would kick start our premiership tilt. The first 2 would help our midfield massively.

If Rodriguez some how slipped to pick 5, and we had that pick this would be a great draft hall.

Hopefully you get get Picket for a future 1st, and then we can raise up the ladder next year.

2. Fred Rodriguez Sth Frem 184cm
20. Toby Whan Sth Frem 184cm
37. Basil Hart Peel 185cm

exactly. the only thing that 'didn't work' about Bolton in the middle is that he can't be 2 places at once...

counting down until Kozzy in

Thats just more BS Serong is 15th in the comp for centre bounce attendance way behind bigger bodied midfielders like LDU, Anderson, Steele, Macrae, Ed Richards and Brayshaw is 34th. Also CBA has no influence on clearances around the ground which account for most of Brayshaws and Serong clearances. Stop talking shit and focus on the facts

We are ranked 4th for average and total centre clearances. I would argue we are winning in the middle regularly. Its what happens outside the middle that seems to be our downfall.....

Melbourne, Geelong, St Kilda, West bulldogs we got smashed in the middle. Even if we won the centre clearance, the ball made it to our defensive 50 very quickly.

I think we have problems all over the ground.

We spent a decade trying to find a second tall to help Pav. Now we can't find spots for all our talls available while not having smalls to bring in. Frustrating.
Simple.
NOD in for Switkowsi. Reshuffle the forward line. Frederick is the hit up forward.
Reid and Dudley the smalls.

Voss, Treacy and Amiss.

That’s plenty.

Really really miss the uniqueness of Sturt. He would be the difference.

It's ok against certain midfields. Collingwood played their own game so they didn't bother taking our time and space. Just picked off our handballs and kicks and waited for us to give it back to them.. which we duly d id. St Kilda on he other hand went in tight and we got obliterated . As with our coaches you see that it works sometimes so it should just be left that way all the time without any adjustment according to the opposition. It isn't a coincidence the Fyfe was often needed to stop the bleeding in our midfield last year. Some of the games he stopped us losing last year we are losing this year.. But now even when we can win the clearances we often don't win the game because we can't do anything constructive by foot. No point saying it is only our mid forward connection. Our midfield are all ordinary kicks so it will almost always be a problem unless they improve their kicking and decision making or we replace them with people who can.. seems we have been waiting for the former for about 10 years.. Mundy was the point of difference and now he isn't there.

Only issue with Raz forward is he seems to have lost his goal kicking ability. He used to kick them out of his bum as a junior now he doesn't seem to be able to kick 40 with any accuracy. Really annoyed when they allow themselves to lose an important skill like that.

It's not BS at all. It is simply a fact that the best sides generally have several 185-195cm midfielders. We've got the players, but they are mostly injured or out of favour.

Crisp, De Goey, Pendlebury, Long. A raft of flankers who find themselves between the arcs (e.g. Houston, Perryman, McCreery, Maynard). Crisp destroyed us.

Holmes, Bowes, O'Connor, Danger if needed. Smith is 185cm but a brute. Even a scrawny guy like Dempsey brings exceptional overhead marking.

Dunkley, Berry, McCluggage, Rayner.

Bontempelli, Richards, Kennedy. Guys like Treloar, Sanders, Harmes are still in that 185-186 range. And they play 190cm wings like Freijah, Davidson.

Hawks have a mosquito fleet, but there's also Worpel, Nash, Day, Newcombe. Weddle will move in there with time. They've been giving Hustwaite a go recently.

GWS another side that can play a lot of small players, but they have Green and Callaghan who are absolute beasts, and Ward is still kicking around. O'Hallaran is listed at 187cm. They played Himmelberg on the wing yesterday.

You can still get wins, such as when we beat the Dogs without Bontempelli. Or run the Pies close when they are missing some of the above. But it is simply not sustainable. Especially when the heat comes in a final.

The only time we were any good was with Fyfe, Mundy, Crowley, Barlow.

This, he’s still picking Switta, picking unfit Darcy, picking 8 tall defenders. He’s like a BF nuffie that has done his best 23 at the start of the year and he’s sticking with it.
They’re not being selected for the moment, which is a massive concern if we’re waiting for the ideal team to show up while we’re losing

So, no suspension for Jordy then??

Jayzus the commentators had me thinking he was Dean Solomon.
