Lol. The up and down on Fyfe and Walters is hilarious.

*Preseason best 22 discussions: Fyfe and Walters are done, no longer best 22; former champions, but can’t beat Father time; Fyfe as sub, maybe, but Walters is too slow.
*Post-Indigneous All Stars and preseason game: How good is Walters? Talent always wins out. Switta and Freddy will just have bde their time at Peel to earn their place in the firsts. Sonny and Shai will work so well together.
*News that Walters is injured: Sonny who?
*Freo lose Geelong and Sydney, and later get comprehensively smashed at the bounces and in contested possessions by the winless Melbourne: we have no midfield depth; we’re in desperate need for experience and leadership; O’Meara and Johnson are no good in the middle. Can’t get Fyfe back in the side soon enough.
*Freo beat GWS to sit at 5-5: would love to see Fyfe and Walters get a lost shot at finals, but let’s face it; they’re not best 22, way past it, what do you even mean, “finals experience”?
My comment about Fyfe is more around his fitness. If he is 100% yes he comes in and I named two players he can replace. The conditioning/ medical team may clear him to play not this weekend but the weekend after but I doubt from footy conditioning he is good to go with the speed and pressure of AFL. When he pinged his hammy he was 1 quarter done into his first proper WAFL. Yes he played some managed mins in practice games. So like Darcy and Walters they need a run of games in WAFL to get up to speed.

Imagine if Darcy plays we get rolled and Jackson has no impact.

It's doomsday stuff but the line will have to put through Darcy for the short-medium term
Anyone looking fwd would know it is critical we have both darcy and Jackson for next game against suns

This sets team and darcy up if he can get thru next two games

North have a good match up first week after bye for darcy also

Im sure coaches are hoping to have them both in team for extended spell

Short term thinking, Jackson is dominating and Darcy is massively under done. He needs a mini preseason to recapture form, not just beating a Port rookie ruck and then getting smashed by Witts to lose all confidence. Do what's best to get Darcy up to scratch while Jackson is going well. If something changes, reassess then but rushing him back didn't work the first time but I know our hand was forced.

Listening to the press conference, JL pretty much said Darcy plays this week or next.

We are at 11 on the doomsday clock

Even though the romantic in us all would love the thought of both of them going out in a blaze of glory in September, the chances of that happening are almost nil.

Even coming into this season fit and firing I thought their best was a long way behind them. Having now missed most of the season and expecting them to just perform like they did years ago is unrealistic.

Footy is a brutal sport and takes no prisoners, even champions.
Pre-injury, Walters was good v Melbourne (pre-season) and outstanding in the All Star game. Clarkson played him as a mid for big chunks and looked genuinely back to his best.

Whilst I hate the idea of opposition coaches mercilessly throwing our players around, it was a sharp reminder to me how good he actually is when fit.

I like how the media are actually asking pertinent questions at the moment

Asked directly about Darcy doing a mini preseason and about Erasmus getting an extended run.

Of course JLo fluffed about with flaccid answers but at last the questions were asked.

I'd be okay with Darcy coming in next week, but Jackson and Voss should comfortably deal with Visentini and Finnlayson.
Suns went with Witts and Moyle last week, if that's the same when they play us Darcy would be handy as Voss against a genuine ruckman might be a concern

In: a comfortable win at home.

Out: Wharfie Time. Last heard against Collingwood a fortnight ago. It’s only used when we are behind late in the game and has come to remind me of too many crap losses.

It might be an unpopular take, but I wouldn’t mind if it’s retired.

Apparently Darcy pulled up sore so not playing? I hope its true. But medium term they need to be honest about his form and fitness and place in the team. i.e. no one should be an auto in regardless
Can we not. Saying I hope it's true that one of our players is sore does not sit well with me. Understand the intention, but it's not that hard to word things in way that doesn't come across as hoping one of our players is injured.
