Bazzo not far away but he did take a step back. I’d like to see Bazzo come in for the role that we want Rotham to do. Actually like to see Bazzo have a career trajectory of a schoey in away. Start off as a third tall with a bit of run from defence and then eventually move into a KPD role once he is physically mature

Good wafl form is rewarded if the AFL performance isn't up to scratch they get dropped.

Realty is more likely to be credits in the bank

I think I get what you're saying...competition for spots and I like that.
Just one thing for me, Hough has to stay in, (and be backed by coach).
One poor game shouldn't see him dropped IMHO.
Give him game experience AND don't overcoach his natural abilities or drop him easily.
# I really thought we'd got a good one with Rotham & first few games gave me more.

From the limited viewings I reckon Bazzo looks like a damn good footballer. Reckon he might surprise a few if he gets given a game.

Is it just me or do others see Gaff playing inside mid as a massive coaching error. Gaff as a winger used to be an A grader and would at worst be a really good wing in his link up work.

When Sheed and Kelly join Gaff at centre clearances and stoppages (especially without NicNat giving silver service), I would expect the defenders to be dirty. Guv aside as he will think the quick transition will give him another great intercept option.

You would think we are fighting for a top four spot with the team we are fielding. We are almost as old as geelong, if Sheed & Yeo come into the team. O/K WCE know this team is not going anywhere in the next few years & we only have a few young guys who can play due to injury issues. It is ongoing stupidity. I fell it comes from his pay packet - they desperately want him to be an all-round mid because that is what they are paying for.

I dunno about that. He signed his big dollar deal when he was the best winger in the game. I don't think the consideration was that his game will evolve to being a contested mid so he's worth the money. Gaff has dominated every year he was coming out of contract and the interest in getting him back to Victoria was real.

This is the downside of fighting to keep interstate players. We also had a plan to retain players through our window in the hope of more success but the window has closed earlier than predicted.

You build a side around who deserves a spot, who is going to perform the best and you give young players a taste when they deserve it. If it's close to a 50/50 call between a young guy and a senior player then play the young guy but gifting games no matter how shit we have performed or the coaching doesn't build a winning culture. Reward WAFL form and the facts are simple. Rioli and Ryan are much better forwards than the smalls we have playing there and Ryan on his WAFL performance still had 4+ shots on goal and kicked 2 goals.

Sheed is actually far and away the best around the ground stoppage clearance player we have. (I know that might hurt for some to hear but those are the facts)

Going smaller because of the weather forecast so bad luck Hedwards. Hurn will have to play tall. A lot of defenders available but Hough gets the nod as a token youth pick, Jones because I feel like the wet weather will suit him. Yeo is apparently a defender now but he can have another run in the WAFL. Nelson is a good sub.

An oversupply of mids anyway, West (assuming he’s right) and Clark will get limited time there unfortunately.

Ryan and Rioli straight in for Winder and Waterman.

Bazzo and Culley chances next week against Essendon.

He's a fair bit shorter than Moore. But get him on the weights and turn him into Alex Rance. He's got the same footy instincts.

Exactly.

Week-to-week team actually means very little. Sure, we would like to be competitive but that is unlikely most weeks.

What we need to focus on is development, and that isn't just playing youth every single week. It's building them into it so they have a great platform for further development in 2023 (as spots will be available due to retirements). At the end of the year I'd like to see the following players have played this # of games (or more):

Hedwards - 25 (currently 21)
Xon 20 (18)
B Williams 20 (17)
West 20 (14)
Winder 10 (7)
CJ 10 (6)
Hough 10 (6)
Clark 10 (6)

Then at least another game (or a debut game) for Strnadica, J Williams, Culley, Bazzo and Joyce (if fit).

Some of those guys won't be on the list next year, so we need to find out who is worth persisting with. Would be great to see Chesser, Trew & LEdwards play (or play more) - but that seems very unlikely with their injury issues.

Add to the above continuing to get games into guys like Witherden, SPS, Ryan, Rioli, Petrucelle etc - and we should have a decent amount of developing players to go with our new draftees.
