If it wasn't Mcneil it would've been Gardner. Unfortunately injuries mean these guys are going to get games.

I think we still need to do alot of work on our depth players regardless of injury, the injuries certainly highlight the issues when 3 or 4 of these guys have to play instead of 1 or 2 at most.

Yep Baker/Poulter/Gards/McNeil/Scott types need to become more Harmes/Kennedy or Davidson/Hynes/Dolan types

They were both emergencies last week as well. Edging closer is Jaques. Interesting that he played wing in the VFL. Potentially exposing him to different positions to give him more opportunity at AFL?

Glad Hynes got the call up, best on in the VFL - deserved another go. Hoping he isn’t sub so he has a chance to impact.

Personally would have preferred Hynes stay in the VFL and build up a few more weeks of confidence and good form in that role, but can't be upset rewarding the young man after a great game last week. Will need to play a bit of a different role in the seniors this week and sounds like he might be the sub so makes it a bit tougher, but hope he goes well!

McNeil gets a reprieve and needs to have a big game to avoid being the one to come out for Harmes next week.

There is no way that previous bias contributed in this at all and it's a pretty disrespectful that that is the suggestion, just because Gardner is likely a nice guy and you want to see him do well

Had no positive impact on the game and his direct opponent was best on by a stretch. Had a 5 minute period in the second quarter where three poor Gardner efforts resulted in a goal and there was others throughout the game. Think you might be the one with bias

Our defenders were hung out to dry by a weak midfield effort to stop their multitude of easy entries and everyone had it hard.

At least you made me go look deeper at some stats to find he had has as many clangers as Lobb (1), more spoils than anyone other than JOD & equal 6th most pressure acts from the whole team.

He played his part, but was one of the many lambs to the wolves.

For all the talk of Bevo favouritism to Gardner, it's quite likely we were confident Darcy would be back this week and we'd be dropping a tall. Buss in for a near-certain 1 week only wouldn't be great for him again.

Probably a good point. Think we have stifled Gallaghers development a little bit by bringing him and keeping him in the AFL as soon as he plays well in the VFL instead of letting him dominate VFL for an extended period of time and have him really ready for his next chance

I like giving guys chances early if they have a suitable role. Excited to see what we get from him

Last five minutes of the second quarter. Awful one on one effort with Chol, Gunston walks into an open goal. Gardner fails to deal with a high ball, drops mark Newcombe crumbs and goals. Has no body on Chol and he marks and goals not really in the contest. That's not even to mention whatever that Ginnivan effort was. There was fault from others leading up to the goal no doubt, first one wouldn't have been down there except Bramble spoiled Dale to turn it over, English also should have been a hell of a lot stronger in the third one. Doesn't excuse the awful efforts from Gardner

The silly high press puts our defenders in tough spots. Gardner was set up to fail playing deepest defender when he doesn't make quick enough decisions and his hesitations often lead to the maximum. It was still a damned right awful individual performance and if Buss made half the mistakes you'd say "that's why Bevo hasn't been picking him, his not ready" or if Jones played like that you'd say "that's why Bevo hasn't been picking him, his legs are gone" but because it's poor Gards its, he wasn't that bad, people just love to rag in him

Anyways it matters very little now. He was rightfully dropped and hopefully he goes back to performing very well at VFL level where it's more his pace and we don't have to bother having these debates in the AFL again
