I'll watch the match and support the team of course, but I gotta admit...I'm feeling very meh about this game, and the prospect of looking impressive against the Saints. Nothing against St Kilda. Just suffering a footy hangover from our recent failures versus Geelong and particularly Hawthorn. I'm going to take limited pleasure out of flat-track bullying some of the lower teams.
What if we lose?

cherrypie posted in the autopsy thread that only one of those goals was attributable to Gardner. I haven’t rewatched it (and won’t) but I’m prepared to believe him until shown otherwise.

Neither of us are fans or apologists for Gardy but in fairness to him and indeed to all players I think it’s important to set the facts straight.
what facts are you referring to

Maybe just be happy IF we win...?

This will be a close game I reckon.

Whether Gardy was on Chol when the goals were kicked.

I’m quoting Cherrypie who seems to have had a good look at the footage.
No problem if you think he’s wrong … feel free to post the clips or whatever that show otherwise.

not talking about that part its the autopsy part i was interested in

So you think the club completely rigged the B&F, ruining the integrity of an award with a long, proud history, to appeal to the ego of a role player? Or do you think it's more likely that the rabid vitriol that a bunch of toothless keyboard warriors spew online has culminated in a ridiculous conspiracy you're now repeating?

I used the word contrived, as opposed to your paraphrasing of 'completely rigged'.

Not sure how else you would describe how a player who has arguably never been an obvious inclusion in the top seven players of his team in a single AFL game, gets ranked within the top seven players for his team across an entire season.

In 2022, the season in question, Ryan averaged just 11 disposals and 5 marks across 22 games, arguably most of which were collected uncontested during switches across the back line. Out of his 242 possessions for the year, 51 were classified as clangers. He scored no goals and was credited with just a single goal assist. I could go on but suffice to say that his statistics, whilst career highs for him, still weren't exactly impressive. Yet he somehow managed to out poll teammates like Adam Treloar and Bailey Dale, who averaged 27 and 26 possessions, in 22 and 23 games for the season respectively (and both also collected Brownlow votes that season).

I don't think it is a stretch to suggest that achieving such B&F poll results requires some highly creative weighting to the voting.

By way of an additional comparison, Brian Lake one of the greatest full backs in the history of the game, finished just 10th in the B&F in 2012 after averaging 17.1 disposals across 20 games, and collecting 7 Brownlow votes.

So please spare us the condescending comments about award integrity. There have been a number of other head scratching B&F results in our recent history, and to point out examples of such outlying results doesn't make anyone a keyboard warrior or conspiracy theorist.

Could not agree more.

You could maybe throw Baker into that mix.

However wouldn't mind seeing Dolan get a start on the field this week with McNeill the sub only.
I’d also prefer getting games into Jones when he’s not injured. But at the moment the options are bare especially this week with Harmes also going out.

I have Buku in a category fantasy league and he has been great for me as a defender who kicks goals.

With Darcy back is it assumed he would remain up fwd?

Well said professor.

Chol got 9 coaches votes against us and deserved them. Prior to last week, he's received 4 in total for this whole year and 6 for the whole of last year in 23 games. Hardly a coincidence his best game in 2 years is when he had Gardner on him 🤦

Why wasn't Lobb on him? Lobb gave him a bath in the final last year and was just about our only winner on the night.

Lobb was saving our Bacon at CHB intercepting and later went forward. Gardener was getting exposed as the deepest KPD. He got done for Athleticism and slow decision making.
has Bevo ever played Gardner as a forward i need to know before i post my next comments
