I’m more hopeful for Sellwood to have that spot by the end of the season than Coffield

Go back to Elimination Final 2019 (I think) Coffield last quarter on Roarke Smith won Saints the game, he is a good player, and be in before Bramble/Cleary

What’s the go with JJ? Trained fully but being held back a week? Will be interesting to see if he plays VFL. You’d imagine if he is good to go he comes straight back in so it seems odd considering he only had an illness that he seems to now have overcome.

Must've been worried about the 5 day break and considered the Swans game a bigger threat. Bevo did mention something about managing guys coming back.

Makes sense, hopefully that’s the case. Our game goes up a level when we have JJ up and running.

Why would that come at the expense of Khamis? They’re playing different roles.
And let’s not forget it’s also time for Buku to be given opportunities. You speak as though he’s well into his 30s and should make way for emerging talent, but he’s only 25 and has played just 39 games. He’s still very much in the development phase of his career
I don't mind who it is that gives way for the Buss to play back for a few games. Im very happy with how Buku and JOD have been playing and they deserve to be in the team at the pointy end. But Buss's ceiling should be much higher than them and we need to confirm that sooner rather than later. if we want to push into the top 4 while Bont is still around that's one piece of the puzzle.

Nothing worse that continually finishing in the middle.

That's an interesting proposition that Busslinger should have a much higher ceiling than O'Donnell.

I understand your impatience to get more experience into Buss. I'd like to see it happen too. But O'Donnell has the better form and (to my eye) competes much better one-on-one at this stage. I suspect MC sees it that way too, otherwise Busslinger would be getting games ahead of JOD.

Both have improvement in them. JOD is about 18 months older but he had a late start to seriously competitive footy and did not come through the usual junior ranks. However he is proving a very reliable senior level player already and is clearly continuing to improve.

Buss has been a slower burn. He's starting to make good progress after missing much of his first season due to injury. However until he does enough to convince MC to select him and then shows continuing progress in the seniors, I'm rating JOD's ceiling higher. We need to ignore the fact that one was a first round draft pick and the other was a Cat B add-on rookie. That makes no difference now.

In any case I don't think Buss is a serious contender for JOD's role right now. He's fighting with the likes of Coffield, Cleary and soon perhaps Sellwood if that player develops a run of good form in the VFL. I think MC are looking for a mobile type who can play tall which isn't ideal for Buss. Buss is 198cm. Coffield 191, Cleary 190 and Sellwood 186, although he seems to be able to play tall. Khamis is also 190.

Hope Coffield does well, we desperately need a good medium defender to support the KPDs in the air and do a competent job defensively on small/medium forwards.
Coffield's positioning is exceptional but his knees have killed his agility. I don't have any faith he can cover a small forward.

Pardon the intrusion, I come in peace!

Each week I get an opposition supporter on for a chat about the upcoming game as part of our Behind Frenemy Lines Podcast as it's great to preview a game with both sides represented!

This week I was joined by Matt and Nicholas of The Salty Bulldog to chat about the big game. I'm sure a lot of you are already aware of their work, but if not chuck them a follow!

Below is the preview for anyone interested, it was great chatting to them!

-Thoughts on Bevo
-Current form lines
-Key match ups
-Where the game can be won or lost
