I actually thought Draper was better that game (having been one to call for his dropping for a few weeks now), Caddy is elite. I still want Davies to get a run but thought that was a bit better from him.
not much better. way too many times he was jogging to a contest that his player was already at just relying on his teammate to get there first

Erasmus OR Fyfe need to go out.
Draper needs to find the other testicle he lost in the off-season.
I actually like Aish as the sub, bit like Banfield can go anywhere on the field.

I will not forgive Erasmus for not hitting Amiss on the lead, that encapsulates his mentality and skill level.

Draper looked to be carrying really heavy legs even in the first, but he also wasn't really attempting to smother. That improved, I suspect he got a bake on effort.

Give him a rest, bring back the captain.
After the game, someone had spoken to Merriman who was at the game and said Pearce is unlikely for next week as well.

Sounds like we are being very cautious with him.

Erasmus didn't see him, Amiss was a fraction early on the lead, and led behind the person on the mark which may have blocked Erasmus's view.

Freddy's kick to Amiss was a lot worse.

Agree, Erasmus and Fyfe together make us too slow. I would prefer to keep Erasmus.

Amiss went way too early, by the time Ras got off the mark the opportunity was gone. That was on Jye not Ras.

Obviously he didn't see him but that's the problem. Amiss was directly in front of him, not left, not right, leading right at him. It's not good enough and fwiw I think he did see him and can't execute.

I think we need more speed and class.
Controversial but I’d consider:

Murphy Reid into the midfield
Dudley into Reid’s HFF role

Fyfe out
Banfield out

Wagner shifts more back
Not sure who the next in is …

He didn’t give away any free kicks, so that’s an improvement. Although that may have been more of a case of him never being close enough to Caddy to hold him.

If we didn’t make the change this week, I doubt we do next week.

A lot of dilemmas to weigh up.

I didn’t mind Fyfe as the sub but was weary when I saw him named in the 22. I doubted his ability to run out 4 quarters and unfortunately was right. Was sad to see, his body is shot and he struggles to move, if he’s going to be used from here on in it needs to exclusively be in the sub role where he can come on fresh in the 4th and do a 20 minute shift when the game has slowed down.

Draper I don’t know how he got another game after recent form, was always going to struggle on Caddy. Surely a 10 day break is enough for Pearce to be right, if not we play one less tall, Saints only real tall threat up forward is Sharman.

Banfield had a poor game last night but I actually haven’t minded him in the half-back role. However he shouldn’t be undroppable again as he was last year. Freddy another who gets another game on virtue of having nobody to replace him.

Aish has played wing before and I think he did enough in his small cameo to earn a block of games. I’m just done with Sharp’s constant fumblyness and ball butchering, he’s not the only one but we have too many poorly skilled players and Sharp’s gutrunning alone isn’t enough to keep justifying selection.

Expecting one of Dudley or Walters to come back in depending on their performances at Peel, likely Dudley as Walters has missed a lot of footy. Ditto Walker.

JOM shouldn’t be coming back in barring exceptional form or injuries. We don’t need another one-paced midfielder. I haven’t missed his backwards handballs. Erasmus is average but he might get better, JOM is JOM.

And then there’s the ruck situation which I can’t even be assed getting into.

Ultimately JL is a minimalist and even with all that he’s still likely to only make the one change.

Caddy is absolutely not elite. He may be one day, but is nowhere near that right now. He averages 6 effective disposals and a goal a game. Draper needs to go back and work on his craft. Looks like he has no confidence and isn't quite strong enough to defend how he wants to. He needs to develop that killer instinct. He's playing like a caravan at the moment... just trailing behind his opponent.
Outs - Draper, Banfield, Aish
In - Darcy, Pearce, Duds.
Sub - Fyfe

If Pearce isn't ready, the best performed of OMAC and Davies this weekend comes in.

Are we potting Draper - a 21 year old in his 30th game - for keeping Nate Caddy to 1 goal?

Nut sure I'm on board with this one guys.

Caddy a 19 year old that gave him a bath.

Caddy is an elite talent that has consistency issues with being young. Hes a tough match up. Im not arguing for Draper to stay in the team.

It’s not potting for the sake of it though. I just don’t think he’s been great this year, especially the last few weeks. And would hugely benefit from a sustained run at Peel - something he’s never done yet.

Meanwhile we have a guy like Davies who’s played almost 50 games for Peel. Or even a ready made veteran in McDonald.

When there’s other options available, I don’t think you need to be gifting games to anyone just because they’re young and promising.

I like the visual of caravan. I tell my kids he plays like a cape, flapping in the wind behind him, but caravan is much much better.
