Are there any stats on the correlation between winning the hitout and winning the clearance? A lot of variables I fancy.

Debating about Erasmus/JOM/Johnson just shows how poor our midfield depth is. They are all very limited players. JOM is slow and past it and Raz/Johnno either haven’t taken the next step, or perhaps were never good enough.

There is a sharp drop-off after Brayshaw/Serong/Young that is glaring with Young out and either Serong or Brayshaw regularly under clamps now. Bolton has been a good injection through there at times and Wagner/NOD a little bit but it’s not enough

I think they are limited, but ok to be best 22.

The issue is we don't have any outside class.

Add a Gulden or NWM and everything else looks good in the middle, assuming we fix clearances.

Not really. For example we are 4th for both average hit-outs and % of ruck contests won, but sit 11th for clearances.

Winning the hit-outs is irrelevant if you don’t set-up well at stoppage, or if your ruckman aren’t tapping to the advantage of your midfielders.

That argument doesn’t hold up when the oppo has the first 9 centre clearance of the game and goals from 5 of them.

Meek is coming off a club record 59 hitouts, v Marshall. Absolutely not taking Darcy out.

Hawthorn are going tall as well. Dear/Chol/Gunston with Sicily/Battle/Barass

Darcy will take care of Meek no problem.

Not worried about Barrass either who is a shadow of himself since joining Hawks. He’s much slower now than when he was at the Eagles.
