Strategy Changes: Round 18 Freo vs Hawks

There is no ruthlessness from the board and the coach. You watch, he will make some nothing changes around the edges (Erasmus, Johnson, Dudley) and talk about how we are only a win away from the top 4.

Called it.

Was feeling somewhat confident going into this one, confidence definitely gone down a peg now.

Hawthorn are the number one team in the comp for marks per i50, we are dead last in that area. A KPD duo of Cox and McDonald against Chol, Gunston and Dear does not inspire confidence.

As for Pearce, FMD. We cannot rely on his paper mache body at all. Wouldn’t surprise me if it’s a re-aggravation and he’s out for another couple. We have too many injury prone players.

The Pearce thing is really annoying as they rushed him back - he played poor - and now he’s pulled up lame to boot, which you’d think will be another 3 weeks as it’s bone stress. Frustrating.

They also did the exact same thing last year, at almost the exact same time.

Hard to say he's been rushed back. There wasnt even an 'injury' in the first place, it was a 'hotspot'. Guy is injury prone.
"hot spot" is probably CODE for something more serious

Time to Retire Alex Pearce , join Walters and hopefullly fyfe

You can’t rely on Pearce. Every single year he’s missing massive games of footy for this club though injury, the same type of injuries all the time. 30 years old this year and now heading towards the twilight of his career and he’s never got a real run at it. Sucks for him but sucks even more for the Fremantle footy club who have consciously chosen for several years now to build a defensive foundation around a guy that cannot stay on the park consistently.
The responsibly for that decision lies on us, not Alex.

It will be the exact same next year and the year after. Just like its been the last few years. The definition of insanity is repeating the same things over and over.

Yep we have made some dumb decisions. He shouldn't captain next year. We can't have a sole captain that is lucky to play 15 games a season.

The bigger issue is the next few years. We need to draft someone or hope Murphy comes on very strong. They don't seem to rate Davies. We need to hope Cox gets better another year removed from the brutal hamstring.

What I do agree with is the club has a bit of a track record of punting on gifted players whose bodies are unreliable. Mundy being a notable exception. What a legend.

Finn Maginness, could either be sub or could tag Serong.

He often plays as a defensive forward, so he could also be in the side to tag Clark. Against the Pies he was sub and brought on to man Houston. While they let Sidebottom and Daicos run rampant in the midfield.

Last year he played forward and tagged Sheezel, Blakey (didn't work and they shifted him to Heeney), Flanders.

But he has tagged Callaghan and Anderson this year. Lats year Daicos (didn't work) and Oliver in the midfield.

I'm getting this from the game logs from fanfooty.

I've seen some post-injury crashouts but holy shit this one's crazy. The captaincy thing is more reasonable, but pronouncing him cooked? Ice cold take: if you're top 10 in the AFL in your position and play well over half the games, you're a useful player to have around.

More concerning is the fact that this season, injury problems feel like a downhill slope with irreversible momentum. This is far from exclusive to Pearce.

This is why I kept saying a key position defender is a key requirement for us, we dont have an adequate replacement for Moose.
Who plays on Bulldogs Darcy in an elim final if Moose is down?

Maybe in the longer term, Riddle/Nicholls but I have nt seen them play so wouldnt know.

We also need another A grade midfielder and another running half back (maybe two if Clark went to the wing) so we`ve got a fair bit of recruiting to do.
We are in big trouble if Mooses "soreness" is another stress fracture "hot spot" reoccurrence. Normally they are a 6 week injury.
