IN: Shuey

OUT: Newman

*Unless McGinnity/Lynch suspended (coz you never know with the MRP)

I really hope we come out breathing fire next Sunday v Brisbane. I watched some of their game v Gold Coast and they really should have lost and anyone losing to Gold Coast we shouldnt have trouble with.

But as I said in another post they seem to play well v us...

I think Glass/MacKenzie should have Brown/Merrett covered ok - its just the unknown guys Brissy have that bob up (like that red headed sub guy - who has done nothing since)

Anyway, looking forward to heading over to the game and seeing Shuey, Kerr, Coxy and co rip it up :thumbsu:

on effort and class others should come out before Newman.
On, yesterday I would include Rosa, McGinity, Butler and Hams. Need to build on the kids upside.

I thought Newman showed his class on a few occasions yesterday - if we can, I'd leave him in as sub for a while yet. The kid will be a good-un no doubt, and he just needs to be given the opportunity to become match-orientated now.

Wasn't A. Selwood on Thompson? A bloke who has been averaging like 40 possessions a week. And Selwood kept him to practically nothing.
While that might be true, he is a liability with the ball in hand, and I'd prefer to give Scott the tagging job to play him back into form. We've been exposed against good teams for having too many players with average skills and decision making, resulting in turnovers or kicks to nothing contests
If he doesn't lift his game and prove himself capable in this regard, I'd rather see someone like Stevenson get a game.

I don’t think, Koby Stevens will play for WCE again.
I think the nail in the coffin was Sam Butler, he has been asking for midfield time, finally got it and play well.
Sam showed he still has that good centre clearance ability he had back in 2006 and 2007.
Looks like Sam will be played in the middle from now on, so I see us bringing in another defender.
It’s a tragedy we keep giving game time to a hack like McGinnity who holds his position on less than 10 possesions a week, yet we cant find the game time to develop Koby Stevens.
Out this week:
P McGinnity
A Selwood
M Newman
In this week:
L Shuey
J Hill
A Smith

Ok maybe not this week, but perhaps over the off season I reckon it may be worth allowing Darling to train for some on ball work.

Fast enough, strong enough, fit enough, knew how to find enough of the ball as a junior and his skills are good to excellent. By his own admission he was willing to play there after being drafted.

Have the feeling he could become that tall bollocking mid we need. Also knows how to block and apply great defensive pressure.

With McGinnes and McGovern developing well and McGovern especially playing a similar style of footy to Darling, plus massive injuries masking our true depth in this area it may be worth considering in the long term.

most definitely - I am keen to see darling develop as a midfielder

I don't see why Darling cannot become a handy midfielder for us.

I was surprised to find out that Scott Pendlebury weights about 5kg more than Darling (and they are the same height). Make of that what you will. Although I think Darling played as a forward for majority of his junior years before he stopped growing, so he still might need to improve on his tank to become an elite mid.

Darling has the potential to be an elite FWD.

He does not have the potential to be an elite MID.

At most he should play cameo roles through the midfield if we are struggling.
Really, why are you so sure this is the case?

Both Kennedy and Watson were earmarked as forwards, both are now elite mids. He shares similar qualities to those two (better skills though).

I'd say it's a hunch, but that sounds rather lame. I don't know, the main thing is I'm not convinced yet that Jack has the ability below his knees just yet to be an effective mid.

It's mainly a case of robbing Peter to pay Paul. I think he'll be an elite forward, so I'm not interested in seeing him too much in the midfield. I want to show a bit of faith in our midfield stocks as they are and those we will draft in the years to come.

This time of season you wont see any radical changes especially from Woosha , but I feel we need to take a risk maybe playing one or two of Dick / McGovern / McIness . If WCE do and fail Woosha will look pretty bad but if it works it could rejuvinate the team , players injured like Embley / Kennedy are less iffy risks but still no guarantee that they will produce enough to beat Hawks / Geelong / Collingwood teams in the next six weeks anyway . Makes for interesting selection next month or so !

McGovern can actually play in the ruck for periods also to rejuvinate NicNat and Coxy , so I would throw McGovern in the deep end maybe and go back to kicking the ball long to Darling / Lynch / McGovern , atm WCE forward line has lost direction / confidence , just kick it long

In: Workrate, skill and pace

Out: Those who don't chase and tackle, lesser skills

Thoughts on Hams?

He picked up two late goals for 3 but IMO just wasn't quick enough to catch many opponents, Newman will be very good in time.

One of McGinnity or Brennan needs to make way for somoeone, I'd give Brennan a shot and rest McGinnity.

Out: McGinnity, Newman

In: Shuey, Hill

i think we will see a similar situation with Newman as what was done with Gaff last season... sub mostly , start some , full run in the wafl is due. no doubt he shows real potential , but his place should be filled with Dick... Dick and Hams as the 2 small forwards and Newman as back-up... I think Masten needs more time in the middle also , Kerr on the wing for a few games makes sense to me. He needs to be free from the constant battering he receives until the business time approaches......

Dick with eight scoring shots in the WAFL this weekend to register a score of 4.4 Seems ready to stake a claim in our best 22 at the moment.

He is a proven performer at the elite level and could certainly add some spark to our side. Newman is on the way to becoming a similar player but at this stage, with our season on the line, I would like to see what Dick can do against the lions.

agree entirely, what have we got to lose? drop mcginnity or newman start him as a pocket (not sub) if it doesn't work then we will drop him and most likely get the 4 points anyway given we're playing the lions at home who failed to put away the suns, if it works then then we have found yet another pocket that will no doubt be handy with the absense of Lecca and Nicoski
