Constant talk of being too tall. It’s nonsense 3 bigs all working well together difficult to stop all 3 plus we have Freddy, Switta and Bolts. Great forward make up coach is never going to mess with that and why would he.
A fit Sturt would be awfully nice in Voss' spot, and I like what Voss has done.

Mcrap is such a slime in his pressers

The old no excuses football club with excuses..so shut the F up
Faicos is either fit to play or he's not..

Vic media will lap up the hero worship if they win or use it if they lose

I'm out of the loop with most other teams these days, here's me thinking Collingwood have a Daicos, Naicos and Faicos all in the same team.

sO glad Darcy has been back the last couple of games! Banners didn't even get a single hit out, he's so shit /s

Banners role isn't to tap the ball it's to kick and handball it. It's a requirement to have decent skills when executing these roles.

Bolton was the big clearance winner for us when we played Collingwood in Round 10. That was coming off the St Kilda game where he was tagged heavily. I think he had more mid time in that game vs Collingwood than the games previous, so it was kind of a new midfield mix and there could have been some team defensive tactics that were unfamiliar when we turned it over going forward and Collingwood scored virtually every time they went towards goal.

Should show him his first half against the Swans to fire him up then.

I really want the team to feel like they have a huge chip on their shoulder all the way until November

I'm just speculating that we're 10 weeks down the track from that game and there's been more opportunity to play together. Up to that point the midfield mix was a bit chop and change due to injuries. O'Meara was in, then out, Young came back for 3 weeks.

I can't remember exactly whether Bolton started in the square. Did Wagner start midfield against Collingwood or did he follow N. Daicos coming off the wing? Those transitional tactics where players are handed over are often the areas where team defense comes unstuck.

This is an interesting discussion point actually.

We're so conditioned to this traditional idea you need to play two talls that we still doubt our method even after 7 wins from 8.

And this is despite plenty of posts I've seen saying coaches never win premierships by following trends, but that you need to be ahead of the curve to win one and make the rest of comp catch up.

So fuq it, we've been winning a lot lately. And quite a few of them have been in the wet too, which is when you'd think the extra talls would be a liability if they were ever going to be.

So why shouldn't we be happy sticking with the structure that got us there? Make the rest of the comp try stop us rather than worrying whether our structure is how it's traditionally done or not.

Agree with this, some of our talls have bigger tanks and better ground ball games than some of the smalls.

Jackson is ridiculous. Treacy provides excellent defensive pressure. Voss creates panic. Amiss is a work in progress but isn’t a slouch, very agile.

Jaicos will have to play down back, you would think. But maybe that last quarter flips that.

As for the three talls, they do their job plenty fine. It's when the ball hits the deck and gets scooted out that's a problem. Reid and Dudley should either be feasting on those crumbs or tackling the shit out of anything that moves. We are not that great on the front and centre set-up from inside-50 marking contests. I mean, I wouldn't want to be at the feet of a rampaging Voss or Treacy but that's bread and butter footy for a small forward. Bread and butter.

Maybe we put Bolton on daicos at cba and try expose him like Anderson did. And then have wags follow him around the ground. Feel like our best opportunity to score is at cba since we struggle to score against them in open play

I think we'll be okay to score as long as the delivery isn't high and slow. I'd rather they deliver bounce passes in there than lobb it in.

I reckon every time we've gone too tall, the oppo have run it out of defence way too easily
I think us being too tall is a bit of a myth going off the averages heights across Rd 18. Only 4 teams shorter than us and 2 the same height.

Carlton - 188.1cm, 85.8kg
Brisbane - 187.9cm, 85.9kg

Gold Coast - 188.5cm, 85.2kg
Collingwood - 188.2cm, 88.3kg

Bulldogs - 190.1cm, 87.2kg
Adelaide - 188.1cm, 89.5kg

Giants - 188.8cm, 86.9kg
Geelong - 188.8cm, 87.9kg

Freo - 187.9cm, 86.8kg
Hawthorn - 187.2cm, 85.3kg

Richmond - 188.4cm, 85.5kg
Essendon - 188.7cm, 86kg

Melb - 186.8cm, 85.7kg
North - 186.7cm, 83.7kg

St Kilda - 188.3cm, 85.2kg
Sydney - 187.9cm, 87,1kg

Port - 187cm, 84.3kg
West Coast - 188.5cm, 85.8kg

We're playing one extra key forward/ruck but we don't really have medium talls so it balances out. The Bulldogs are huge.

Dudley brings down our average a lot though !
We don't have the big mids that others have without Fyfe and Young.

As long as the bigger guys can pressure and tackle, and can run hard it's not too different. I think most teams play two bigs, a mid-size and 3 smalls, plus the ruckman floating in, so it's not too different.

Would love to see Jye and Voss being a bit better in the contest, they probably wrestle a bit much, and don't do the body work that the best do. Also leading patterns, blocks, etc. Making sure they're not in each others way. Either Voss, Treacy or Amiss has to play up the ground a bit.

I think the key is to always have a tall target in the goal square and not crowded (our other talls are up closer to 50 and the sides), which allows us to kick deep and reduce intercepts. We kick shallow and poorly and the pies will rebound too quickly.

Don’t see too many opposition players getting in the way of Voss when he’s on the move we have real versatility up forward
They are starting to gel nicely. They haven’t been playing as a threesome for that long it takes time

Horrible idea imo, if the ball falls to daicos he hurts you, where as Bolton is a terrible kick.

If we bring in Walker and Young for Banners + Dudley, we go to 188.6cm tall which flips our position to 5th tallest based off latest weeks teams. Still not a big deal in my opinion.
