Feel like it’s just this board saying there’s any chance of him coming here. And that’s just because we need a winger and Allan is both from WA and the son of a former captain of our club. We’ve never really targeted young fringe players - pretty much everyone we’ve traded in lately had been best 22 at their club with Corbett being the one exception I can think of. Sharp, Voss and Narkle were added to the rookie list after being delisted so they’re a different category again.

Really think the versatility and left foot of Banners is keeping him alive in this 22. He's gotta know that pressure is coming for his spot so at least it we know exactly what we will get from him...*

*a surprisingly clean and dependable performance or a very clear and straight forward droppable one.

Now..I don't want Murphy Reid as sub. He deserves a full game. But if him being the sub is best for the team (which it isnt) then him being pissed about it is too bad. Team game not an appeasement game.
Agreed, but I was responding to someone who was saying he was in the running to be sub. He isn’t but he and his family would be pissed because he gets to play in Vic a couple of times a year, don’t tell me that doesn’t come under consideration with a young player going to his home state. He won’t be sub, especially in his home state.

Murphy Reid should never play a game for Peel or even start as sub.
The collective footy IQ of our team would drop by a significant amount if he's not out there.
Rarely seen a more innately talented player in a lot of years watching footy.
Will be forever a mystery how he was available at our pick.
Fyfe you can kind of understand as he was still very skinny and incredibly raw. Reid had shown his talent in all the U18 footy in the main audition comp for AFL.

Banfield has to be the sub. I don’t even mind him in the team when he’s sub. He’s done good things as a sub before and gives us some flexibility.

JL has to rip the bandaid off sooner or later though, Walker is a better defender than Banners and there’s no spot for him up forward.

I think Young would be ready to go otherwise wouldn’t be picked, and will probably play a full game but spend a lot of time forward or have his minutes managed.

For both sides there's 5 INS and OUTS from the 23s that played in Rd 10.

COLLINGWOOD
OUTS: Frampton, Hill, Houston, Howe, Membrey
INS: McStay, Pendelbury, Maynard, Dean, Mihocek

Markov was the SUB on for Sidebottom.

FREMANTLE
OUTS: Pearce, Dudley, Sharp, Erasmus, Simpson
INS: McDonald, Young, O'Driscoll, O'Meara, Banfield

Erasmus was the SUB on last time for Darcy.

Agreed, anyone who think Murphy Reid should be the starting sub needs to remember the 2013 GF. Lachie Neale was the starting sub and I’ll fight anyone who recons it wasn’t a mistake or a factor in him leaving later on.

I think us being too tall is a bit of a myth going off the averages heights across Rd 18. Only 4 teams shorter than us and 2 the same height.

Carlton - 188.1cm, 85.8kg
Brisbane - 187.9cm, 85.9kg

Gold Coast - 188.5cm, 85.2kg
Collingwood - 188.2cm, 88.3kg

Bulldogs - 190.1cm, 87.2kg
Adelaide - 188.1cm, 89.5kg

Giants - 188.8cm, 86.9kg
Geelong - 188.8cm, 87.9kg

Freo - 187.9cm, 86.8kg
Hawthorn - 187.2cm, 85.3kg

Richmond - 188.4cm, 85.5kg
Essendon - 188.7cm, 86kg

Melb - 186.8cm, 85.7kg
North - 186.7cm, 83.7kg

St Kilda - 188.3cm, 85.2kg
Sydney - 187.9cm, 87,1kg

Port - 187cm, 84.3kg
West Coast - 188.5cm, 85.8kg

We're playing one extra key forward/ruck but we don't really have medium talls so it balances out. The Bulldogs are huge.
Averages mean nothing in this context. In fact in most context average is a terrible measure. Maybe if you broke it up positionally might be more useful. Fwd / Followers / etc

I used to work with the State Demographer and one of his favourite lines was “On average, every human has one boob and one testicle”.

I agree with the poster who said that a fit and firing Sturt in the side (likely at the expense of Pat Voss) would balance our forward line nicely.

In saying that, I value the role that Vossy played last week on Sicily. He could do similar against Maynard this week. His physicality is an asset that he and JLo are learning to harness.

Having three 195cm players in the forward line becomes an issue when we:

a). Bomb it in but get intercepted against (as happened against Collingwood last time), or

b). Fail to lock the ball in our forward 50 or slow down the opposition’s transition.

We had great forward half pressure last week. It’s hard to tell if it is a tactic that the coach can use depending on the opposition and/or match situation, or whether it’s a function of other parts of the game plan in general going well.

Switta in the side definitely helps.

Yep its a hill ill die on. Neale should have started and it could have made all the difference

His form in the 4 weeks into the finals was awesome.

Sutcliffe should have been Sub

Sometimes we seem to lag off and do our intercepting across half forward or the middle rather than inside 50. However, I think all 3 talls are good pressure players as well, esp Treacy and Voss. It's not as if they are lumbering or have a wide turning radius.

I know he is a Freo mouthpiece but Daniels is spot on about Young.

A fit Young is a weapon we need if we want to go forward into the finals this season.

He adds a different dimension to the midfield and is equally good forward or back.

He will be eased into it tomorrow but it is just great to have him back.

Wow. How did I forget Jordan Clark.

Let’s still remember how publicly that trade played out. It was basically constant rumours for twelve months straight from the media. I’ve seen literally nothing about Allan coming to Freo.
Yes we had a crack the previous trade period/year and Geelong refused. Then the talk continued over the next 12months.

I agree though there does seem to be some similarities between Clark and Allan. Allan striving for more opportunity, looks ready to move up to the next level and is in an area of need.

I get the impression he is rated highly at Collingwood and they are unlikely to trade him but from memory Walls was a fan and reckon we are asking the question and keeping in contact with his management.
