Yes we had a crack the previous trade period/year and Geelong refused. Then the talk continued over the next 12months.

I agree though there does seem to be some similarities between Clark and Allan. Allan striving for more opportunity, looks ready to move up to the next level and is in an area of need.

I get the impression he is rated highly at Collingwood and they are unlikely to trade him but from memory Walls was a fan and reckon we are asking the question and keeping in contact with his management.
The club has many times said they keep tabs on WA boys drafted interstate. Have no doubt whatsoever that the club will be talking to his manager especially around contract time.

I think the difference between Clark and Allan at least in my eyes was that Clark had actually shown more but was somehow further from his teams best 22 than Allan. I said at the time when posters said we overpaid for Clark they’d be wrong and he’d be inside our top five most talented players within 2-3 years. Think I got that right. Anyway I think it’s pretty easy to see how Allan makes his way into Collingwood’s best 22 - Probably isn’t a stretch to say that a premiership this year or next or poor season next year sees a number of older players retired or delisted. Not sure it’s beyond him to push himself into the team before that anyway.

I think being the son of Ben Allen puts us in the box seat if we want him / he wants to move back. No doubt, the communication lines have been even more open compared to other WA boys.

If we turn up with the same effort as last week we get this done.

We're basically full strength playing against a half VFL backline. Key will be not allowing access to the corridor for Pendulbury and Daicos to work their magic.

Focus on stopping McCreery, Daicos, Crisp, and keep the eyes lowered going inside 50.

One huge difference between round 9 and now is the form of Darcy. He is fit enough to wear down Cameron now.

Can't wait for this one, season defining game.

Need to win the midfield, and stop Jamie Elliot or stop the ball getting to him in fast transition - will go a long way to winning.

I'm really keen to see how Hayden Young goes, and how much midfield, back or forward he plays.

I don’t think communication would be much more than other WA boys we rated highly tbh.

It’s about maintaining interest when West Coast is probably doing the same. Ultimately in most cases it comes down to role, money and a player’s ambitions to play in a flag but the family link (father, brother etc) is usually almost a deal breaker. However if we showed interest at 18 and interest at 21 and all times in between but West Coast were only interested at draft time and a few months before the trade request then it is just something extra in our favour. We don’t want to be on the other end of that equation - even with Allan who’s dad played for us almost 30 years ago.

The boys should be eyeing off top four from here, can beat anyone if we bring our best. Get this one then the next 3 are very winnable and I'm not scared of Brisbane at Optus or the dogs. IF we bring our best. How badly do they really want it?

Allan also coached us and was a board member. Being the inaugural Captain, I recon he’d be down the club every now and they would still get him tickets.

He's got a medal partly named after him so he's probably got to turn up for home derbies, but y'know he could send a family member in his place if he's ill or something. eg: "The winner of the Allan-Glendinning medal is...me"

I remember the last time Garlick heaped praise on the coach, it was just before the game against the saints at Marvel.
Keep your mouth shut simon.
I reckon we're right in this,I can't see how their backs can deal with Treacy and Amiss effectively for four quarters. Charlie Dean is in for a mare, they either throw him to the wolves one on one or try and help him out with a third man which will let someone like Freddy off the leash.

This is an interesting discussion point actually.

We're so conditioned to this traditional idea you need to play two talls that we still doubt our method even after 7 wins from 8.

And this is despite plenty of posts I've seen saying coaches never win premierships by following trends, but that you need to be ahead of the curve to win one and make the rest of comp catch up.

So fuq it, we've been winning a lot lately. And quite a few of them have been in the wet too, which is when you'd think the extra talls would be a liability if they were ever going to be.

So why shouldn't we be happy sticking with the structure that got us there? Make the rest of the comp try stop us rather than worrying whether our structure is how it's traditionally done or not.

3 tall forwards + 2 rucks + 2 key backs + Chapman who is 6 foot 4 and Luke Ryan who has the turning circle of a KPP.

It's one tall too many over all IMO but Ryan/Chapman won't be dropped for a small and Sturt/etc aren't banging the door down to drop a tall forward and play the resting ruckman forward more.

Best he’s coached in 6 years … hasn’t Garlick only been here for 4

Such a dribbler

I agree with you but I would love to see Walker in the side. Hoskin Elliot, Shultz, Elliot and Sullivan, 4 small forwards. Worner gets one, Clark gets one, what about the other 2? Ryan on Hoskin Elliot and Chappy zoning off Sullivan?

If those 4 players kick 5 or less goals between them we win, if they combine for 6 or more we're in trouble.

Does anyone know our record of playing top of the ladder away in the past 5-10 years feel like we got a 70% win rate

Agreed, anyone who think Murphy Reid should be the starting sub needs to remember the 2013 GF. Lachie Neale was the starting sub and I’ll fight anyone who recons it wasn’t a mistake or a factor in him leaving later on.

Do we win if Neale starts and Sutcliffe is the sub? Guess we'll never know.
