I know what you're saying about Fyfe and his ball winning. But, the observation to be valid must be qualified:
1. Fyfe himself acknowledged that his ball winning was enhanced by the coaching and 'self-sacrificial' defensive efforts/set-ups around him. His brilliance was buffed up.
2. His ball winning capacity involved costly bash and crash which impacted his longevity.

If you are choosing your first pick in the best ever Freo side I don't think anyone could credibly maintain that they would want 244 games of Nat Fyfe before 353 games of Mat Pavlich. 244 of games of each...now there's a debate! 353 games of each...even better.

I mean, point one isn’t a big deal, every team with a superstar does this.

Pav used to get any space up fwd he wanted, the whole team would get out of his way.

Does it matter if Jeremy Cameron’s team mates block for him a bit?

What sort of help does Daicos get?

Agree on the longevity point, + Pav was our first one club superstar.

Love them both though.

Prime Fyfe vs Prime Pav is pretty close, maybe just 2013 Fyfe over 2006 Pav but it’s pretty close… difference is longevity at the end of the day, Pav gets him on that, and you can make a case for Mundy as well.

Ultimately Pav is my childhood hero and the number 1 guy on both talent, leadership and longevity combined.

Fyfe and Mundy the other two… question is who is the fourth on Freo’s Mt Rushmore? Sonny? McPharlin? Bell?

I'm expecting Bolton to be best on ground today, I remember him playing a game against us in similar conditions, he brought his own ball and everyone else was playing with soap that day
Mark him down for 25 and 2 goals

I just hope the boys aren't taking Carlton lightly - some of em haven't experienced the Dockery losses against them.

Shocking conditions but we've been a better wet-weather team this year, I'd really like to see a big game from Treacy.

Every interview I've listened to during the week they've said something along the lines of "Calrton always seem to have the wood on us" so at least they sound hungry to get some revenge

Personally I don't think it was super close, Fyfe's peak was above what Pav did.
However Fyfe's injury troubles have unfortunately made it a much harder assessment.
Pav was also almost universally loved, while Fyfe had his air of difference.

Ultimately when you consider what they've contributed to Freo, Pav's durability, versatility and the fact he stayed loyal when he had such a draw back home give him the edge for mine.
But I can see arguments both ways.

Pav
Fyfe
Mundy
Sandilands
Bell
My ordered top 5
McPharlin in the next 5
In my opinion
McPharlin is one the best KPDs ever. The media are just too stupid to rate KPDs highly unless they play for a good team.

He's above Bell and Sandilands easily.

In a strange way I think Pavlich is the club's most legendary player but Fyfe is their best. Things like longevity, being our most successful captain and having more best and fairest awards count for something when discussing who Freo's best player of all time is.

But both at their peak most AFL fans are taking Fyfe - most opposition wouldn't take into consideration anything else unless talking about their own club. Such is the Vic bias of the media, I don't think anyone but Freo fans and non-bias West Coast fans actually realise how good Pavlich was. You've got to win Brownlows/Colemans and premierships for that unfortunately.

For mine, peak Fyfe was an unstoppable force. I’d take peak Fyfe as a better player, Pavlich for the better career.

All time best single-season Freo performances? Fyfe, followed by Fyfe, and Fyfe third.

Love McPharlin like you said underrated but feel to be a top 5 player at the club you need to have 1 bnf under your belt.
As for Pav he is our teddy whitten
Fyfe and bont peak best player in the league but Pav and ej can’t be surpassed as beacons in our club history.
Pav like McPharlin is massively underrated in the broader community
Pav could of been compared to Mathews at a Victorian dynasty club

OUT: missing at goal, fking around with it in the backline
IN: Reid passing Cyril's 1st year stats, consistent umpiring for both teams, from Q1 to Q4.
Well, I was correct on our OUTS and I think half of our INS.

Good to see we are gradually removing the incessant need to handpass to someone under pressure, but there were still a few instances of that yesterday (but most teams would have that i guess), and we didn't stuff around with it in the backline yesterday which was nice, good to see the coaching staff were following my suggestions.

Only real negative from yesterday (aside from Young's groin) was adjusting to the side we were playing. Carlton may be low on the ladder, but they are still a good clearance team with the reigning Brownlow medalist in the guts, and a lot of large tall experienced bodies who are very good aerially. So, we were quite slow to adjust after spending a whole lot of the first half kicking long and high to contests which Carlton regularly won (including on Dudley's head). Would prefer we made those adjustments early, say at quarter time, rather than wait until the long break as we continued to bomb it long in the second quarter to be regularly picked off.

We tidy that up that speed of adjustment and we may not have to be trailing at 3qt time in finals.

If its a school yard play off and Ive only got one first pick Im picking Fyfe and you are picking Pav. Thats OK, if it ever gets down to your forward line Pav will kick about 20 goals. The problem is Fyfe will win every clearance and the ball will never get to Pavs end of the ground.
Cant I have both???
