Nelson has done some excellent shut down jobs in the past including on Oliver.

Nelson was put on Bontempelli after half time in Rd 3 and as you can see he kept him quiet for a long time but then Bontempelli broke free View attachment 1199880

Similarly Nelson was put on Oliver in 2019 I think and had the same cooling effect but for a lot longer. I can't find the same stats graph for that game however.
If Nelson is coming in to do a tagging job, which I’d be okay with, then why are we bothering with Hutchings?

You really are grasping onto that “19th in contested marks” stat, without acknowledging that he’s played a link-up role most of the season which isn’t conducive to taking a lot of contested marks. Guys that we’ve used in that sort of role - Cripps, Brander, Langdon - are down below him in the 20s.

It’d be like me saying “we can’t use McGovern as a key forward, he hasn’t kicked a goal this year”. Of course he hasn’t, he’s been played in the backline all year. But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have the skill set to do it.

because you guys want waterman to replace darling, when he doesn’t have the physical attributes.

then you want him to play deep forward, when again he can’t take contested marks and doesn’t have the physical attributes. If he could take contested marks of course we’d play him in dangerous positions.

then you want him as a link up forward, when he has very poor lactic tolerance and ability for repeat efforts. This is the position that suits him but he is not fit enough to perform. He gets up the ground but can’t get back. Gassed by quarter time, can’t apply pressure and loses goal kicking accuracy. Not a great field kick either. Then it’s blamed on asthma, when it’s lack of preparation and commitment to fitness. This is why he has been dropped.

at the moment you have backed the wrong horse, until he pulls his finger out and has a dip in preseason

Nope. I said I want him in the side to replace Allen, I never said I wanted him at Darling’s expense.

But you’re always quite happy to tell me I’ve said something I never said, so why should this be any different.

Darling out for waterman

So you’re quoting someone else to try to prove that I said something I didn’t say?

You honestly don’t have a clue, do you.

Don't care if they don't drop seniors at this stage of the season but why is Waterman out and Vardy in? Such a weird message to be sending.

Weird team line up if the game is to be wet as well.

Vardy has been dominating WAFL so it shows you will be rewarded with good form. Not really a weird message there. The difference between Vardy and Waterman in the wet will be negligible. Both are tall guys with average mobility.

Vardy in for a wet game? Surely Waterman is a better bet. Can run, can link, can take more than one mark a game, kicks the odd goal or two and can be a body in the ruck. Vs. Can be a body in the ruck.

Both Hutch and Nelson?

The MC want to send a message?

I've received it and the message is...
the MC don't know what the *uck they're doing.

never said Miguel Sanchez

but you’ve still backed the wrong horse

You said "you guys want Darling out and Waterman in".

In direct response to me.

Where'd I say that? Or even suggest that's what I want?

So has Hutchings, I wouldn't select either.

AFL team had a bad loss in which Waterman was one of the best in. Waterman will cover a lot more ground than Vardy and apply a lot more defensive pressure if need be.

Vardy in should mean that Allen goes out who has looked devoid of energy and confidence.

Waterman has more mobility and a much greater running capacity.

Watermans defensive pressure was actually pretty poor last week. He had half the defensive acts of Allen. Its probably the sole reason he was dropped considering how poor we were in that area.

Whilst this may be the case, it's ironic considering how poor our midfield is at putting pressure on the opposition that we would make a scapegoat of one of our best players for that game

Yep, we are all frustrated like this at the moment. Simpson is a ******* disgrace

Haven't been on all week but wanted to pop in and say the above.

The club is in a bad spot right now and Simpson is making defensive selection calls that are feeding the problems on the field. Vardy is an especially bad call, Rotham being dropped is a disgrace after being one of our best the week prior.

Look less competitive at ground level than the week prior. Expect Melbourne to bounce back hard.

I’m definitely surprised that, after a game where we got badly outworked, they dropped Langdon who covered more ground than anyone on the field, and Waterman, and replaced them with Hutchings and Vardy.

Boys, I got an idea, it's gonna be rainy and wet slippery conditions...let's make the team TALLER! That'll do it!
Finish 8, 9th or 10th. It ill make little difference on our draft pic in real terms. What is important is that we go to the pre season having showen we can compete to give the list a lift. We will paly next yewar with 80% of our current list and it must get out of the current rut.
The challenge tomorrow is to be competative against Melbourne who will field their full team, not to beat the rain. We have selected a team to compete. Win, thats a stretch without our two best small forwards and several who are not fully fit.

if the finals series ends up being at Optus, or in any hub for that matter, there'll be no difference in advantage between finishing 5th and 8th. If it is at Optus, we'll have a home ground advantage against anyone we play.

So let's get into the finals and see what happens.
