Sat myself thru that horror show of a second half just to have a look at a few things again, and I tell ya, May really is piece of work. I loved the way he played football at the GC but the way he acts on the field to teammates who make mistakes pisses me off honestly. Just demeans them publicly. Pointing the finger at them and loudmouthing....If he pulled that shit with me I'd end up like TMac (was it Tom last year at the GABBA telling him to G&GF?) and probably want to flog him in the rooms after the game.

I was all for trading for him ,but **** me, his attitude and play ****ing stinks, I dont see him as anything more than a locker room cancer right now. Seems Goody has given him certain privileges and it's all gone to his head. I'd be leaving the "organising" to Jake and tell May to concentrate on his own match up.

I loved the way he used to play, but he hasn't come close to that so far. Then when he starts showing up his teammates....tsss.....it ain't helping anyone. Hes not a leaders arseh*le, shouldn't be in any position of power.

I guess a positive is May/Lever/TMac/Melksham/Jones surely all play better than they did against the blues.

He still looks unfit. I’ve defended him a heap but he was shithouse on Saturday and wouldn’t want to play that badly again ever.

May was really good for us in the few games he did play in 2019.
Shit trade given what we gave up and are paying him, and a poor game on Saturday but I think you guys are jumping the gun a bit. We wouldn’t want May going down. Important player.

I'm in favour of the trade now but geez it would be nice for him to play well in a few wins.

It wouldn't be about his play so much if he didn't have form of being a complete ******** to his teammates on field. Dude thinks he's still captain at the gold coast. Needs to pull his head in and start earning his 800-900k a year pay cheque.

He did play some good games in 2019 coming off no preseason which is why I'm perplexed as to his crap form after two games in 2020 when he is meant to be super fit.

The funniest part being that you could argue it was him that nearly lost us that game. While he sits there having a go at the likes of Joel Smith he's quick to forget Carlton didn't even have a sniff until he dropped that pud of a mark when flying third man up did they?

Shame no one blasted him for being a useless prick after that dropped mark.

May kept josh Kennedy goal less in round 1.

The problem isn’t May, he’s playing to the level he has in every one of his 10 years in the league, there’s a reason he has never made a AA squad let alone the team and his highest individual achievement is making the best 22 under 22 team 8 odd years ago.

He is what he is an honest AFL footballer who will play 180 odd games and disappear, the issue is our club gave up plenty and is paying him like a star which he has never been.

We can't defend because we put ourselves in horrific positions and increase the defensive difficulty by about 200% by repeatedly kicking to outnumbered contests and then getting killed on the rebound where we have no one to compete at ground level. When we were forced to defend at the end of the game we were taking shorter kicks and hitting targets and all of a sudden our defensive structures held up so much better.
+ multiple times when the kicks would be to a 1 v 1 but were so horrible and favoured to the opposition they would win it and kill us on the counter attack.

Pretty sure Langdon was responsible for many of those. Not only not hitting the target but also kicking completely in Carlton's favour.

For a slow, average skilled but good contested side, we cheat offensively and try and hit pinpoint handballs and passes. Whereas we should be slightly cheating defensively and kicking to 1 v1 contests backing our players to win it back. It happens so much i am convinced its what they are instructed to do.

It was frost that he had a blue with last year at the gabba. I don't mind the fact he gets fired up and yells at other players for making mistakes. It's the fact he tells a player off and then ends up making the exact same mistakes. I'm pretty sure the frosty situation was him telling him off for not impacting the contest and allowing a goal out the back which is exactly what he did on the weekend. Then there was the endless kick outs to the exact same spot. At one point the commentator (howie?) Even mentioned that on the otherside Tomlinson had a miss match 1 on 1 and had they popped it up to him he couldn't have lost. Instead he just went predictably to the same spot. Anyway I do agree that he did play some really good games and he is largely responsible for convincing bennell to come over. The club targeted may because they felt it was close to a premiership after last year and the small sample size this year we look way off so that pick 5 is looking more and more like the option we should have taken but easy to say in hindsight.

Especially given Tomlinson was in part recruited to be the tall winger who can compete for the mark from the kick out that was so ****ing ridiculous. GC would be laughing at getting Ben King for May but it was still the right decision for us. He just needs to start taking his own form a bit more seriously.

don’t think so, could be wrong.
Darling only kicked 1 goal himself. So pretty sure may would spent most of his time on either of them

Thats fair, I'll concede I don't remember round 1 very well. I rate Mays best footy super highly so am always going to place high expectations on him, he was just super average against a pretty shit forwardline on Saturday.

To be fair, he dropped the mark so he impacted the contest just in a negative way which is different to not impacting the contest at all.

May had a stinker on the weekend, was very good round 1. But still yet to prove his worth.

Have to be super physical this week, still waiting for us to start playing like 2017 or the 6 week spell in 2018 when we just bashed teams into submission. We are zero chance if we try play them at their own game, if we bully them and control clearances like we ‘should’ we are in with a shout. We are Melbourne though so we will likely play just like 2019 against the bombers where we decided it was a great idea to challenge them at a game of AFLX.

I actually think it’s gotten to the point where Tmac should go back for a bit, him and May can take the two key forwards and let Lever peel off a bit more. Happy to go smaller up forward and just have Jackson/Weideman be encouraged just to bring it to ground.
This, this, this. Play players in their best positions e.g. TMac back, Lever intercepting, Harmes tagger. And be consistent with the aggro.

Send TMac to CHB and we have a roughly B grade key defender who frees Lever up to do his best work. Keep him forward and we have a deadset spud tall forward who plays undersized when the ball is in the air and oversized when it hits the ground.

He's entitled to go for the mark, Joel Smith's man got goal side of him with far too much ease to crumb and goal. Don't really wanna teach the backline to never go for a mark because none of their teammates can defend a ground ball.

Is this legit? His job is to stop goals. He's entitled to go for the mark provided he bloody takes it. He should have knocked it 10 rows back and made sure they didn't get a cheap one out the back.
