Changes Round 3

We are playing some good footy and lots of changes doesn't help anyone in my opinion. Edwards is versatile and will keep his spot and will be very handy against Hawks.

Luke looks unlikely I would bring in Gourdis even without doing anything this pre-season purely because I have pretty much given up on Will
i agree, eddie did enough last night - a big improvement on pre season form, and i liked the run of foley and nahas in the game, it gave us a new dimension to last week - called run.
i admit i thought we were too small going into the game, but i take it back.

astbury was ok last night playing on a first gamer, but the hawks pair are another story. i'd bring gourdis and post in

I think we should look at having Conca as the sub and use him in the midfield. Maybe have him come in for Helbig or whoever isn't travelling well. Alternatively we could use tuck and bring him in for the least performing player.

I would like to see Reece Conca have a full game... but away from the pressure cooker of the backline for a week.

Wing/Half Forward & I reckon we would get a better look of where he will end up playing most of his career games.

Edwards will stay in the team, and you will see why as the season progresses, he has talent and he just needs to settle and be more consitent

Out: Mcgaune (susp) Nahas
In: Grimes Gourdis

Has to be Grimes and Thursfield, Mcguane is gone for at least 3 i reckon, and Nahas or Edwards should go, too similar, cant carry both

Out
Luke......suspended
Astbury..3 absolute shockers in a row, for his own good
Connors.. he gets the ball they get the ball, will be lucky to survive
Houli.......not doing enough
In
Thursty
Gourdis
Tuck
Nason

Bachelor & Hellbig again ok but really shouldn't be there if we if we expect to win games

Or perhaps not change 20% of the team every week, let players settle and learn their roles and we might win some games

Replace Luke if he gets rubbed out with either Goo or Thursty

Out: Edwards, Mcguane is suspended
In: Tuck, Thursfield

If Thursty plays well, pressure will be on Astbury big time with Mcguane and Rance coming back, and Moore back from injury, I still think Mcguane, Moore , Thursty are our best 3 backs but looks like Rance will be chosen over Thursty.

I don't see the Houli bashing, he is there as an outside mid, and IMO he has played well without starring, haven't seen many clangers from him, and I don't think he has been caved up by an opponent. One move potentially to make is actually rotate him with conca, wing/back flank/pocket.

I think our team mix is great at the moment, we get Moore back in, Tuck in for Edwards and all steam ahead

Loving the 3 new draftees, Batchelor , conca hellbig all look good at getting the ball and using it. Grigg has been fantasic and puts our midfield on the cusp of elite, Houli adds a bigger body and solid play. He will have a breakout game in the next few weeks

:thumbsu:COULDN'T agree more ... wonder how many changes he would have called for had Milne drilled that goal?? Eight??

Elsewhere, Thursty first back in for McGuane.

Seriously fellas, Gourdis??? Listen to Hardwick, he's struggling - and has throughout his, what, four years at Tigerland?

I'll state the bleeding obvious ... other than a few games last year, Gourdis has been overlooked for four years by Wallace, Rawlings and Hardwick? Coincidence ... no! He's simply nowhere near the footballer people make him out to be!

Like others have said - loving this year's batch of draftees. All look like they can play. You can see they make rookie errors (overcommitting, losing feet, not taking a body at the contest etc) but they have composure, good disposal and attack on the ball. Everything else just comes in time.

Keep getting games in the kids!

I don't know why some are bagging Edwards, left Nahas and White for dead.

Astbury and Batchelor can stick around for development mileage which is number one priority particularly for the backline

Heilberg showed a bit to which was good!!

you have to be kidding that is blinkers talking. hes been a disgrace not just the last two weeks but all preseason.
nahas is a liability despite him having a go.
while im critical of white still at least hes done a job for them atm.

for me the changes would be.

grimes to a back pocket. gourdis to fb and post to chb.
why 3 talls well we have lost 2 too suspension or will and dave astbury once again struggled big time.

edwards out for a running player perhaps we move one of conca or batchelor to a wing and give one of dea or orielly a backline role.
nahas out for a genuine mid like tuck.
derickx for graham who has been terrible for two games in a row.

with these changes we dramatically improve structure ball winning capability and skill.

for the life of me i cant see why we play all three of nahas white and king. very few possesions and all ordinary users. for me kingy has probably earnt the right to a game. add jackson a negator who actually gets a bit of it but is another whos decisions and skills leave us floundering at times.

depending on form at coburg i would atm go with something like this.

b/ newman - gourdis - grimes
hb/ deledio - post - conca
c/ batchelor - martin - grigg
hf/ helbig - astbury - morton
f/ vickery - riewoldt - king.
r/ derickx - cotchin - foley
int/ tuck - houli - connors - jackson.

Graham hasn't been terrible. Hasn't been great but not terrible either. Averaging 7 tackles per game for a start, had 30 hit outs last night and has done a few nice things in general play.

nope only those that are struggling or structural needs.
for me edwards has been terrible nahas ordinary including last week we went in short of a tall both weeks and mcguane is suspended.

take a look at hawthorn. roughhead hale and franklin all forward. they will all have to be covered so if mcguane gets rubbed out theres two tall defensive inclusions straight away.

graham and edwards have been shocking and dont deserve a spot or do we under hardwick like we did with wallace reward abject shiteness week in week out. so thats 4 new faces

finally nahas just not good enough and we certainly dont need to play 3 of king white and nahas. bring in either a bigger body or a better running accumulator. thats 5 and thats doing it easy.

Can tell you now, Thursfield will be the first tall defender in. We won't be gearing up for Buddy, Roughy and Hale without an experienced tall. Astbury, Grimes and Gourdis, with little experience between the, would be lambs to the slaughter!!
Me thinks if Edwards goes, Webberly will be the replacement. Was good at Coburg!

can live with thursfield getting a game just think gourdis a better size to take on hawthorns talls. if hes done nothing at coburg well so be it.
still we need to bring in two tall defenders thursfield and grimes will do.
how did post go at coburg today. i reckon we need another tall forward as well as the defenders.

one big headache we have is astbury atm is badly down on form and he too would have to be in the firing line.

anyway as stated earlier you could very easily justify 5 changes.

Goo got a bit but his kicking was appalling. No way will he get a call up.
Posts first 3 qtrs was very ordinary, but he redemed himself with a good last qtr. Not enough to warrant selection.
