Changes Round 3

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

After watching the Burgers today i will go -
Out- McGuane (sus) Nahas (omt)
In - Thursty Grimes.
Why would you drop Nahas? Match ups?
His form in the first two games has been reasonable IMO.

Match ups. Buddy and Roughy will be a handful without Moore, McGuane and Rance. Astbury hasnt been on fire, but no way for development reasons should be dropped. Unfortunately Nahas is the only one i can think of. And no way will they drop Tich even though he has been slow out of the box so far.

nahas won't be dropped he's contributed in the first 2 games, sure he's been run down but he's still ahead and he is digging deep...edwards would be in far more trouble. the only thing saving his skin is he did a couple of valuble things late in the game that counted.

Astbury is playing with NFI at the minute, confidence is shot, he's not going for marks and looking completely lost. Id be routing him back to VFL for some leather poisoning and bring in Grimesy and correct thursty should be the rightful slection for a likely holiday in store for mcguane

I'd only change McGuane for Thursty.

Watched the Burgers game and I don't think the players have stepped up enough to get a gig yet.

Tucky deserves too but we need a defender to replace McGuane.

The team we have now is gelling together nicely.

Let the other players gain some form in the Burgers.

For all the doubters can't see either Nahas or Edwards being dropped on form. Edwards certainly a lot better than Rd 1. Houli or Batchelor seem to me to be the players most likely to make way.

Thursfield seems a logical in for McGuane, though as a match-up for Buddy just seems to lack both height and strength, prob better suited to Hale. Assuming Hale plays that is. Thought the 3 talls seemed a liability against Crows as it meant they weren't able to exert enough forward half pressure on Crows running defenders. Hardwick I think leans toward playing only two tall defenders and despite a quiet start to the season I think he'll stick with Astbury as the other tall defender at this stage - who I think is best suited to Roughead. Gourdis or Post seem best options for Buddy, though not sure their form for Coburg warrants a call-up.

Deledio to stay in similar run with role, hopefully he goes to Hodge.

Why do a lot of posters demand the immediate dropping of a player based on a couple of mistakes. Nahas and Edwards often cop the wrath on this board.

I think people miss the overall performance. I seem to remember Cotchin missing two easy shots at goal as well as an out of bounds on the full. Look players all make mistakes during the game. It is just impossible to play a flawless game.

I think the only change will be a defender in for McGuane. Although hopefully he gets off.

I don't know why some are bagging Edwards, left Nahas and White for dead.

Nahas 16 possesions 3 marks 5 tackles
White 12 possesions 0 marks 5 tackles
Edwards 11 possesions 1 mark 3 tackles

I'd hardly call that leaving them for dead.

Of the three the only one who has earned his spot for the moment is White, with two consecutive, respectable defensive jobs on Yarran and Montagna.

I agree with Santa, Nahas is a liabilty despite him having a go. Runs into trouble, can't impose himself physically.

I also feel like most that we will need three defensive talls to attempt to combat the Hawks forward line. So a small will make way for a tall. Whilst Astbury is struggling for form, with both Rance and McGuane both suspended, I just don't think we can drop him.

Out: McGuane, Nahas, Edwards
In: Thursfield, Grimes, Helbig (with Nason to substitute role)

Out: McGuane, Edwards
In: Gourdis, Tuck

More important than ever that we beat the Hawks at the stoppages next week or their KPF's could kill us, Tuck is a must.

Astbury to Roughead, Gourdis to Franklin (if only we still had Polo and his 'other claim to fame' huh? :p). It's far from perfect, but IMO, we can't really throw an 87kg kid in Grimes onto any Hawks KPF and I'd prefer Gourdis' size and pace on this occasion over Thursfield's, unless their current form is light year's apart in Thursfield's favour.

Deledio on Franklin is also be an interesting match-up we could consider because he plays more like a medium and has seldom hurt anyone with contested marking.

I honestly didn't expect us to play three talls either forward or back much this year, we've been this competitive so far because of our speed, run and carry as much as the contested stuff.

All three of our first year kids have done well so far all things considered, but the fact is we can't carry them through their quieter periods AND have blokes like Edwards, Connors, Nahas and Houli not getting enough ball to cover them - one spot has to yield to Tuck out of those seven players, I'd probably go with the pace and ball carrying for now and therefore leave Edwards out - he's been already gifted a ton of games in his career, really needs to start rewarding that faith with a bit more consistency and purpose in his game.

Side picked on needs more than form.

Out: McGuanne(susp), Edwards.

In: Thursfield, Post/Miller

If Post isn't ready I'd go with Miller. Need a tall that can go forward or back.
Especially if Roo has to be rested as well.

Need 3 tall defenders. Thursty, Grimes and 1 other.
Thursty = Franklin
Roughhead = Post or Miller
Hale = Asthbury

We could have an advantage with runners so
shouldn't drop Houli or Nahas. May have to drop one runner in Edwards but he's out of form anyway.

I think this. Will have to double team Franklin with Astbury and Grimes and leave Thursty on Roughead. Nahas was pretty bad the other night. We have enough smalls who can play forward. Helbig is already better. No room for Nahas although he played his best game in 18 months in Round 1

Given that we swapped Rance for King last week and McGuane will probably be rubbed out, we need two talls to come in against the Hawks. I guess Thursfield should be one of them.

As to who misses out, I don't really care. I couldn't watch the game so can't comment on Nahas. I did see the game last week though, and he does give us a spark. He's not a 4 quarter player, but I think he makes a nice mismatch, like when we moved Naish on the ball in that famous 95 semi.

nope only those that are struggling or structural needs.
for me edwards has been terrible nahas ordinary including last week we went in short of a tall both weeks and mcguane is suspended.

take a look at hawthorn. roughhead hale and franklin all forward. they will all have to be covered so if mcguane gets rubbed out theres two tall defensive inclusions straight away.

graham and edwards have been shocking and dont deserve a spot or do we under hardwick like we did with wallace reward abject shiteness week in week out. so thats 4 new faces

finally nahas just not good enough and we certainly dont need to play 3 of king white and nahas. bring in either a bigger body or a better running accumulator. thats 5 and thats doing it easy.

Well for me I think Graham is improving and is putting his body in each week. We need to give players consistancy in playing and that side last night gave us a draw. Yes I would prefer wins.
After round 5 Is when we should look at perhapes making changes with players who are not improving.
I see this as Team and they need to be able to gel and making to many changes will not help
The Win was nearly there and imo if this side sticks together as long as possable they will gel. There will need to be changes as the year goes on to see who else we have who can step up and make us better but right now we need to be as settled as we can with such a young side. I remember a young G Abblet not being a champion in his first few years, but with game time education look now. not saying we have players like that but we need to give some time. Confidence is a winner and I see hardwick building that confidence in the players every week

im the opposite. i see the team full of players that over time need to be replaced as younger players develop. for me this is the only way forward. i would suggest people should get used to plenty of changes as the season progresses.

i dont see graham as a part of the future or white nahas mcguane edwards and others im hoping like hell we are trying to find better more rounded players than these and thru the course of the yr they are replaced.

for me derickx for graham just cant be any worse and worth trying. nahas geez not worth two bob hes not up to the standard. white hes done a defensive job but hes still a glass half full limited player.
edwards whole preseason has been very ordinary hes had just one reasonable season in 5 yet people think hes an automatic choice now that is unbelievable.
ya know we may have won friday with just a bit more polish and input getting hands on the ball in the side.

people may say we drew and we did well but the glass half fulls are still costing us dearly.

Thursty for McGuane

Want to see Conca get more time in the middle.

Webberley had a pretty good game for Coburg, could come in for Edwards or Nahas.

Lids to tag Hodge out of the game and win BOG again.

OUT: McGuane, Edwards, Nahas
IN: Grimes, Thursfield, Webberly

Need more talls up back for Roughead, Franklin, Hale. McGuane suspension obviously and Edwards has been shocking all preseason, poor round 1 and average/ineffectual round 2. It's time for him to have a spell in the 2's and lift his game. Another tall comes in for him to fix up our structure.

Last change I think we will become better through the midfield. Look, obviously Nahas knows he's playing for his football life but his disposal is still average at best and he got caught holding the ball a couple of times like usual through poor decision making. We will be a better team with Webberly having the ball 15-20 times rather than Nahas. His run is good, he's evasive but most importantly he has much better decision making and he doesn't waste the football. Good for Coburg.

Interesting reading Champ Data’s new stat in the paper today, and Nahas was equal 3rd (with Dusty) with 16 pressure acts, and equal 2nd (with Cotch and Grigg) with 6 score involvements.

I would say its those kind of 1%ers that our coaching staff would love and why he would only be dropped for match up reasons only.

Matt White was also a stand out with 19 pressure acts and 5 score involvements.

edwards use of the football was very good last week - good footpassing, marks I50 and goals. shouldn't be dropped
nahas has been very lively - making his usual mistakes but doing just enough to keep his spot. although nason and webberly would be the changes

i reckon the changes will be post/thursfield for mcguane

Agree. We quickly forget that some of these guys get roles and can slip by unnoticed. White was brilliant on Montagna on Fiday night and last week on Yarran. Carving himself a niche. Our midfield is looking brilliant.

From Coburg Tuck and Webberley stood out for me. Tuck was in everything and right when it counted too. Post took some decent grabs and might not be far away. Those calling for Gourdis might want to check out the last play of the day for the Burgers yesterday unless Im mistaken. I think he has a way to go. For the record I am also pleased how Vickery is sticking it up me....wasnt a fan and enjoyed a good bagging of the young fella but he is slowly winning me over.

In: Thursfield, Grimes
Out: McGuane, Not sure

We need to add some height to that backline but not sure who will get dropped. Even though it probably should be Batchelor, I can't see Dimma dropping him.

Astbury probably should be sent to the 2's, but won't out of necessity. Really not sure who else deserves to get dropped?

Gonna guess adding over 5+ kilo's to his frame at his age is probably partially to blame.

atm i realise we are in no position to drop astbury with post gourdis struggling at coburg moore injured and mcguane and rance suspended.

if we had decent options atm i would definately send astbury back to coburg for a stint.
sometimes getting lots of ball having a win over your opponent and gaining confidence is more important than batting and struggling out of your depth.
lets be honest astbury while looking promising last yr was mainly ordinary in the overall scheme of things.
this yr hes dropped away even more. imo its time to give him a break go to coburg find some much needed touch ball and confidence.
this is in no way saying he should be dropped for the yr far from it we do need to get as many games as is practicable into him.
lets develop him properly not destroy him.
