We played a WAFL midfield last week.
The Eagles don't have a ruckman. Kelly is disinterested. Yeo is injured. Golden boy is fat and unfit. Duggan is a role player like Bailey Banfield.
Voss could have easily kicked 5 but no one would have said he was the next Wayne Carey if he did because the opposition were terrible.
Vanilla is the new conservative. As a side note it seems like "conservative" is being used the same way some people use "woke", basically just to mean something they don't understand or like![]()
Well he's only got himself to blame for that oneVanilla is the new conservative.

Well we take 20 seconds after each mark to let the oppo get their defence set up, but then instead of kicking sideways we just go long down the line I.e direct. But we lose the contest and it heads straight back the other way.I was reading somewhere the other day that Freo have greatly improved their long and direct kicks this year, in comparison to last year, and are something like #1 or #2 in the comp.
I've been wondering why so many on here are saying our ball movement is so slow etc but I haven't seen it that way this year? I don't think we do that sideways & chip chip chip we used to do. In training, pre-season and in our games this year players turn and look in board straight away. There's been a lot more dangerous kicks taken too.
I think why my view differs from others is we are still slowest with ball in hand to make those kicks, which other people hate. But this doesn't have to a bad thing when it's waiting for the right option (eg Bruce hitting up Amiss) but is costly when we **** up (eg draper holding the play up and kicking to the chest of an opponent). So for my viewing, it feels like we aren't as slow and some of our ball movement has been amazing to watch.
I've also been wondering why the heck worner is taking the kick outs but it does make sense that we would have a play where we try to get the ball into Luke Ryan's hands a bit further down field.
Maybe I'm being way too optimistic but we have a good, solid defensive unit who have been playing together for awhile now. We have some talented and exciting forwards who are getting to know each other's leading patterns (Treacy, Amiss, Bolton, Duds). Now it's just sorting out the mids and their rotations. Got to remember that as a unit NOD, Erasmus, Jackson haven't actually played that much with Brayshaw & Serong. Same for Bruce obviously.
Throw back in Youngy and Darcy (or Fyfe), who have at least a whole season working together in the middle with Brayshaw & Serong, some cohesion between the rest of the mid mix and I think those 50-50s start going our way, the defenders will get exposed much less often and suddenly our handball game streaming through the middle will tear games apart.
Hopefully I am not eating my own words at Optus tomorrow arvo![]()
Sorry man, I honestly don't know how you watch the Sydney and Geelong game and come to any conclusion other than we move it slow and sideways out of contest. Watch the GC and Adelaide game tell me you think we are moving like good sides at the momentI was reading somewhere the other day that Freo have greatly improved their long and direct kicks this year, in comparison to last year, and are something like #1 or #2 in the comp.

yeah for sure, the high long bomb to a contest can be infuriating. that's part of the connection between the arcs that needs fixing and will stop it rebounding straight back in.Well we take 20 seconds after each mark to let the oppo get their defence set up, but then instead of kicking sideways we just go long down the line I.e direct. If you’re taking ages with the ball you’d be hoping it’s to get that direct kick to ur teammate. Completely useless when you end up going to the contest.
yeah fair enough, I definitely don't think we are moving it like a good team. just not sure it's as bad as it's being made out to be.Sorry man, I honestly don't know how you watch the Sydney and Geelong game and come to any conclusion other than we move it slow and sideways out of contest. 2022 brayshaw was a bit of a god.
Yep, duff suggested Walters to half back and nuffy (me) thought that was a terrible idea and instead suggested Simpson, who by the way is playing well for peel off half back as I type!Nope
Duff mentioned after it was floated by a few posters on here .
Seriously go back and have a look .
It was EVEN touted duff may have got the idea from here himself.
We know for FACT he reads BF
We have one game in our last seven. That is all I need to know when judging the game plan.yeah for sure, the high long bomb to a contest can be infuriating. that's part of the connection between the arcs that needs fixing and will stop it rebounding straight back in.
I don't think that's what we are aiming for anyway though, most of the players are trying to turn and look in board. It's players under pressure and without good decision making skills that result in the long bomb (eg sharp). I don't think we are trying to brute force contest after contest a la Carlton.
I guess my point is I don't think we are as slow as people make it out to be and I'm not sure our position or game plan is as bad as it seems either.
I want Baeshaw back2022 brayshaw was a bit of a god.
35 plus possessions, 500 plus meters gained, 5-10 tackles (chase downs), maybe a goal or two.
