I can only assume they aren’t confident with Treloar’s fitness levels yet because this seemed like a perfect game to bring him back.

No Libba, a bye week and a weaker opposition to allow us to manage game time at 65-70%.
Given he has been on limited minutes in the VFL I would say they are giving him every chance to get his body right so when he does come in his body holds up

Emmett there might be for a late call in Darcy. Would be a good game to debut if Darcy still struggling a bit with his shoulder - he really looked out of sorts.

Trelor would play if fit - he is a star.

Dolan was a level above in the VFL. He is creative and sets up other players. Artie was flying and straight in. Scary for Essendope but our forward line looks stronger:

West Darcy Artie
Dolan Naughton Croft

But would prefer - for this game and an indication of the future:

Davidson Darcy Artie
Dolan Naughton Croft

With West named first rover to replace Libba. He has been very good in the patches he has played there - particularly when we are in front and need to lock in - and keeps that hardness at first possession. The full rotations with Friejah, Kennedy and Sanders means we have full coverage.

Davidson is a great utility - is a good mark and when West rotates in he move as the wing rotation. Pre AFL - Davidson was a very good forward in the Weightman mould but we want a cross with Riewoldt- where we want him to run his opponents into the ground - fear that he is always moving. He and Croft give real speed and run and take load off Darcy and Naughton.

Add a fit Weightman and Darcy1 and far out! That’s as good as any.

No info on Sam's shoulder but way he attacked the contest to ensure it was not marked to set up Baker's goal seems to suggest that his shoulder is not too bad.

He's had the bye for extra rest too. We played him hurt against the Lions and I'd expect he's in better shape now than in Round 1.

Treloar’s 33, played 4 AFL games since 2024 and has battled ongoing soft tissue injuries for the last 18mths.

I think expectations should be tempered a little.
I agree. Teams like Brisbane have been very good at managing their list and having players peaking in September.

Makes sense to nurse him carefully in the early part of the season.

I actually think he may struggle to find a regular spot in the team. He’d need to play head of Sanders, Kennedy or Freijah which I can’t see happening.

Have to remember, we won’t be getting anything close to prime Treloar back.

He was good against Casey in our first official VFL game, but he still wasn't running at full speed. It's almost as if he knows that if he pushes too hard, his calf will give out.

100% he is good enough but he needs to run closer to full speed before he can play in the AFL side.

Where’s this talk about his shoulder coming from? I thought it was his back that was reported as the issue after the SOO game.

He did have shoulder surgery in the off season but the reporting after origin was back and general soreness. Might be a combination of things but he doesn’t look 100%

Actually, just to correct myself, it wasn’t his back it was hip and groin soreness post SOO.

He did have a shoulder reco at the same time as Ed and Naughts at the end of August last year, but I haven’t seen any reports suggesting he’s still having ongoing issues with that shoulder, so I’m wondering where this talk is coming from.

I'm shocked Treloar wasn't named

Aside from West. We haven't really played with any natural small forwards in our team this season so far. West hasn't hurt on the scoreboard so far this season, but is still relentless with his off the ball work.

Hopefully Dolan and Jones can help free him up a little at times. Both Dolan and Jones offer a bit of zip up forward as well.

Aside from Libba being out. ThIs might be the best team we have named all season from a structural standpoint.

Who makes way for Treloar? Bevo alluded in his brief that he could be a likely inclusion the next month, provided he makes it through a few more Footscray runs.

Dolan or Davidson? Could it be as simple as whoever has the better day out on Sunday?

Am I correct in thinking Dolan still hasn’t kicked his first AFL goal?

I know he has had a few chances but I don’t think he did it last season. Good chance for him tomorrow if I’m right

I thought he kicked His first goal against Brisbane last year

Kicked one against Brisbane last year, but yeah only the one so far which is a bit surprising.

Like the changes, agree we look more balanced now with the extra forwards selected and more dangerous / fast also which should help in this modern game style.

When bigfooty is nailing the selection two weeks in advance, things are really changing it seems
