Out: Redden & Hutchings

In: Sheed & Mutimer

Wouldn't be adverse to another change on top of that also. We are too slow on the spread offensively and defensively and we are losing in the contests as well. Redden and hutchings don't help out in this areas. They also don't have the foot skills / confidence to take on aggressive kicks and slow down our ball movement.

Look at Freo last night - they dropped the slow players with poor skills and as a result were much better. It wasn't the kids playing fantastic footy, it was more taking away the negative performers. The new energy from bringing in a few new players helps also I imagine.

I'd like to see a bit more of Wellingham around the ball like in the JLT, not sure why we trialled him there and then don't give him a chance. He has speed and can lay tackle which we need around the contest.

West Coast really need to be bringing young players into the side , obviously need to earn there spot though .

Jetta seem to be on the merry go round in and out of the team , Jetta is an important though with his speed and skill .

Sheed is best 22 and part of the West Coast midfield future , hopefully players like Watson , Mutimer , Duggan , Venables and possibly Partington are given opportunity this season ....not sure we are a premiership chance this season although the match committee will stick with the experience line up through the season but at the same time we need to give opportunity to some new players .

The five day break might bring a few changes

IN - Sheed , Mutimer

OUT - Jetta , Redden

If Mitchell needs a rest then maybe bring Watson in on the wing replacing Jetta :$

Feel like we need schoey down back which provides better balance. Gov to CHF Keeping only one of Giles or vardy.

The two most pea hearted/slowest mids can go out for Duggan and shred.

Also be happy for butman to come back in

Look campaigners, even with my sponsors hat off, Jetta has two weapons, elite kick and serious speed. Today he showed the elite kick side and I feel that it is enough to keep his spot.

We can't play like 6 inside mids and Jetta is essential for balance.

I know you all hate his apparent lack of effort but in my eyes he tried his heart out by making runs.

I am certain he can make an impact and even though he didn't take opportunities today which could have won us the game, he will be a game winner in the future, trust me.
He actually cost us the game. In the last qtr he missed an easy set shot and then dowm the other end gave away a free kick right in front of goal. We lost by 11 points.....

I think we should try Watson for Jetta. At least Watson will use his speed and agility. Gets plenty of it in the WAFL. Yes his kicking can be a bit off but play him on the wing he should be ok.

Sheed in for Hutchings.

And it's not like the rest of the team's kicking is that flash at the moment anyway.

Yeah and least he loves too tackle unlike Jetta

Agree with you Squash. The kick is there but his not taking the game on enough with his run like he did at Sydney.

Gets the ball and kicks it without trying to run and carry with it.

Metres gained is becoming a more crucial stat in the game and him along with with Gaff and Masten need to lead from the front in that category.

Think it's time to play Sheed and Duggan for an extended run, hell Jetta and Redden get free passes. If we're going to be a team that moves the ball cleanly and intelligently, we need intelligent users out there who can learn from Mitchell and develop whilst we still have Kennedy. There seems to be a clash between playing decision makers who don't find enough of the pill Vs stacking average contested mids in an attempt to draw in the midfield and win via our efficient forwardline. With the way we try and move the ball around, I would rather play option A since we know what our current 22 is capable of and it should be clear by now that our current 'vanilla' midfield can't match it with the best contested sides. Efficient ball movement is the direction we have to move in and we need to play the right 22.

I wonder if Watson would do any worse than Jetta? I can't see him having less impact so I'd roll the dice and throw him in there for a couple of games.

Not the time yet to be rolling the dice with Watson. Not even 4 games in.

I watched Francis in the pre season and really liked what I saw, silky disposal and a smooth mover, but noticed as well that sometimes he tried to do to much and got caught out.

Give him some more exposure at WAFL level

Whilst I generally agree with this, I wonder if the WAFL/ the East Perth alignment holds young players back. It seems no one excels regularly playing in the WAFL for us. There is no doubt he has deficiencies still but his speed and tackling could add a spark to the team that we seem to be lacking. It would be a big step up and we would have to wear the mistakes but it could be worth a punt soon. We do need some young players coming through and some speed and tackling aggression.

We've got veteran players going through the motions and making rookie mistakes. Might as well have a rookie in there making rookie mistakes if he at least offers some run and enthusiasm.

Why is Duggan not playing in the Senior side. He showed such promise but appears to have fallen off the perch.
I don't know, the same can be said for most of our young players. Duggan looked a class above WAFL in his first season, but now he looks average at that level.

Have any of our young guys actually dominated the WAFL? Obviously Sheed with his strong build and years of AFL pre-seasons. It's no coincidence that our young players struggle in the WAFL. It's a different game to AFL level.

For example when the ball is turned over at half back at WAFL all the players run forward expecting a clean chain of posession, however the ball is quiet often turned over to the opposition due to poor skills.

Another thing that doesn't happen as regularly in the WAFL is a clean switch to the other side of the ground. Our young players run to the open side of the ground expecting a clean switch only to have the ball turned over, or just bombed down the line.

Obviously there are other differences in game play but simply put, basic skills are executed way better at AFL level which makes the two completely different games. We're expecting the players to dominate a game that they don't really train for.

Factors such as lack of team cohesion, EP having no forward line and no real midfield leadership don't help as well. This year is a perfect shit storm for East Perth.

In saying all that however, the WC players can't be excused for poor games at East Perth. The skill level by WC players is absolute trash at times. Our young mids also struggle to compete against experienced midfield units.

Perhaps it's because Darling is 6'3 and Kennedy is the most dominant kwy forward in the game? We would be essentially be playing a man down if either of them played in the ruck. Not to mention the heightened injury factor of playing someone in ruck.

Maybe. But playing both Giles and vardy makes us 2 players down.

Some quality melts after that result.

Out: Mitchell (rest), Cripps (rubbish form)
In: Sheed, Butler

B: Sheppard, Barrass, Butler
HB: Hurn, McGovern, Yeo
C: Gaff, Priddis, Wellingham
HF: Hill, Darling, Jetta
F: LeCras, Kennedy, Vardy
R: Giles, Shuey, Hutchings
I: Nelson, Masten, Sheed, Redden
E: Cripps, MacKenzie, Karpany

Don't think Mitchell will get up. Really should have left him in Perth and played Sheed. If he does play then Redden to miss, bit harsh on him since he wasn't the worst but Sheed needs to come back and we can't play five slow inside mids.

Butler to come back and provide a bit of a cool head in defence. Wellingham to move into the midfield. Cripps hasn't got near the ball a hell of a lot the first three weeks, needs a spell, out he comes.

There'll probably be some others that struggle to get up but we probably won't know about that until 90 minutes before the bounce.

I reckon we should try Cripps on a wing at some stage too. Gives us some defensive hardness to offset Gaff, Masten and Jetta.

Also I hope that Sheed continues the high tackle numbers that he got against Claremont. He needs to be more physical
