A tendon atttaches muscle to bone, ligaments attach bone to bone.

The hamstring connects behind the knee.

You've gotta laugh.

Lobb into ruck, Emmett comes in, Hynes as well, shame we didn't elevate Billings as cover instead of Lewis, perfect just to give a bit of experience with Ed out.

Anyway...4-0. I'll take it and if we get across the line the next few weeks - look the hell out.

Out: English, Richards, Jones, McNeil
In: Treloar, Emmett, Libba, Gallagher

Have Emmett/Crofr run thenselves into the ground around the arcs, then Lobb/Buku take def 50, and Darc/Naughts take fwd 50.

Lachie Smith can't football at the moment

A lot of our depth type players that could play a role aren’t available which is a cause for concern. McNeil shouldn’t be touching this side.

Treloar, Garcia, Harmes (before retirement) were all types you can slot in and be reasonably confident they could produce. Hynes probably needs to come back in by default or you’re looking at a Gallagher type (shudder).

Hard not to see them keeping McNeil in the team which hurts. He destroys everything he touches.

I would drop him for Hynes, I’d bring in Carmichael for Arty and shuffle Bramble (who is going well) forward and keep playing Jacques on the wing. Carmichael looked really nice in a brief moment I saw him yesterday. lol.

Emmett for English. He’s the better prospect than Smith especially with these rules.

Darce will have to ruck a lot. And share it with Croft and Emmett.

We are probably going to lose without all this quality so let’s give these nice young prospects a look and establish a new normal til the cavalry comes back.

I thought Freijah looked really exciting early against Essendon.

Having said all that I think the team will go with Mneil, so it’ll be Hynes and Emmett/Lewis for English and Jones

Good thing we are 4-0. We have some breathing room. Never know, we still might be able to do it.
Given our horror early draw, I think I would have been happy to come out 4-4 from the first 8 games before the season started. We’re a certainty to do that at least, but if we won 1-2 of them, didn’t damage our percentage much and got our players back then I think we’d be set for a good season.

Need 2... but if english, richards are weeks it would take a huge effort to get close

I think Geelong and Freo are very gettable.

People get spooked by injuries to good players, and I get it, but we’ve had to cover the loss of good players before. We did it very well early last year when Bont, Treloar, JUH, Weightman and then Darcy went out.

As good as English has been, another player can probably do a reasonable impersonation for him for a few weeks and losing a midfielder or two can probably be patched up by Bont, Freijah, Kennedy, Sanders and West picking up rotations.

It’s not panic stations.

So Richards had soreness behind his knee coming off a bye and it took them until the warm up of a game to realise it’s serious and get scans done?
They said on TV he became aware of it in the lead up to the game. Might have injured it having a kick at the ground.

Has it been reported when the injury occurred though? As far as I’m aware it could very well have happened in the warm up last night.

English out means either Emmett debuts, or Lobb moves to ruck and Busslinger comes in. Either way, not ideal.

Hynes straight back in you’d think. There’s a non-zero chance that we see the dreaded return of the VDM/McNeil combo with Arty’s injury. Really awkward group of injuries to have at once.

My guess:

Out: English, Arty
In: Hynes, Busslinger

And McNeil unfortunately keeps his spot. He really did get to the right spot many times, and we even saw his signature McSteal once or twice, but was very fumbly and restricted our ball movement. Guess we’ll see how he goes with a full game

McNeil just can't keep his spot in my eyes, I understand and appreciate he played essentially a game and a half of football but his short comings have long been seen and weren't just brought forward in this game.
Similarly I wouldn't be rushing Hynes back in, I like the idea of giving him some continuity as a midfielder in the VFL and think that is best for his development long term.

Slow as **** midfield

Slow as **** midfield
It loses Ed, but Bont and Freijah are quick enough. It’s slower than the usual but Baker, Davidson, Bramble etc push up.

In a few weeks Libba, Richards and maybe even Treloar could be available.

We could survive a few weeks with it and slow midfields can still win games.

We have to keep Lobb in the backline. The trio we have back there are supported now by better small defenders and a good system but they can only do so much, there’s a steep drop off once any of Lobb, Buku or JoD are out of the equation. This is where are known paper thin KPD depth is going to possibly bite us.

If we’re robbing Peter and paying Paul I’d rather use Darcy as our ruck and pick Lewis/Emmett, target Croft more and see if we can snag a couple of goals from him. I think we can make do with a make shift forward line for a few weeks given we usually have a strong spread of goalkickers anyway.

The solution to this injury problem can’t involve McNeil and Gardner being back in the side.

It’s horrible timing with how the Hawks have historically bullied English and our midfield, and now we’re weaker both in the ruck and in the middle heading into it…Interesting to see what Bevo can pull off. We can’t just throw our hands up after starting 4-0 and accept 4-3 or whatever, going to need to pull out a couple of wins here.

Would not surprise me if we bring in Lewis to play forward, and we see Darcy rucking. Our forward line is still skillful and potent enough to play a tad smaller. We can't replace Lobbs strength in the backline.
