Hawks have some quick small forwards. Gallagher can play a defensive small defender role IMO. So his inclusion makes sense.

Bevo was happy to concede the ruck through English's development years, and at times in 2015/6. We still won plenty. We'll just have to return to the good old bad old days until Stallion English returns . New ruck rules favour leapers over bashers . We'll be OK.

My concern is less with the ruck work and more about the ground English covers to stretch his opposition. At least Croft/ Emmett are athletic but it will be a struggle.

Yeah we will get a touch up in the ruck. This can be mitigated by actually playing defensively on Newcombe. Unfortunately I still think that Bevo won’t do this. It is more likely that Bont, Red and Kennedy go balls-in offensively and we get touched up in the middle.

I expect to have quite a few goals kicked on us in a short period of time before we do anything about it, which will cost us the game.

If I was the coach, I would designate a player to play purely defensively on Newcombe. Sanders is too soft, give me Westy or even Selwood in there to wear him like a glove, a good old fashioned fisting.

There are a few coaches that own bevo: Scott of course and mitchell since the hawks got decent. Thats what always decides these games - has bevo learned anything?

AFAICT the hawks love to spread the ground right out to the boundary running to receive, then switch back into the central space left behind if the oppo overcommit to stopping the boundary transition.

This year we are conceding the boudnary transition, guarding the corridor at all costs and flooding the defence.

Will be interesting to see what the hawks do about that.

Yeap huge gap. Reid faster, better skills and just as tough. Hynes still has an upside but do not see hm ever getting close to Reid. Another reason think how badly we got screwed with the Smith deal.

We made the decision to use the pick we would have used on Reid into getting Pick 4 from the suns. Reid went 17 and the pick we traded to the suns was pick 16 in 2024.

Yeah its a funny one. We have the experience profile of a rebuilding team, not a contending team. History would say that it's very hard to win most of your matches if you have 10 players under 50 games. Hopefully we can be the exception.

Interesting point. We had 10 players under 50 games in the 2016 win plus quite a few in the 60 odd range like JJ.

A lot of them were mature agers though like Hamling and Biggs who had quite a bit of VFL experience.
