Don't think Narkle has either of those tbh

He brings a mature body though
Where's this idea he's some gun recruit come from? I'm unsure the exact reasoning why he got delisted but if he was anything more than an easily replaced depth player Port would've forced us to trade for him.

He's the sort that'd look like an absolute spud in a poor team. In a good team he'll be bottom six standard most weeks with the odd game he does much better or much worse.

He was instantly one of our best at peel

So he is handy depth at the worst

Think he is fine as depth, just don't think he's particularly skilful or fast

JL didn't give much away in his press conference but OMac and Erasmus have flown over. Sounds like it's down to OMac v Draper as forward/ruck.

Also said they'll look to get Jye up the ground a bit more to get him in to games, and Treacy in the ruck "isn't the preferred option"

I think Amiss leading up the ground and marking to provide a link into the attack is something we should be seeing a lot more of if isnt impacting deep in the forward line, a bit like the last part of the dogs game.

Prefer to keep Treacy in the forward line, but he is an option in the ruck. He is our best 2nd ruck, vs some options.

Tossing up between using McDonald or using one of the defenders. JL gave nothing away as David Bubb said

Darcy did unders last week (game time wise), so should be able to do more this week. Pulled up very well.

Jye is a bit sore, but wouldn't use that as an excuse. There is a few things Jye needs to do. Will try to change it up, so he is not always the deepest forward. Will try a few more things to mix it up.

Melbourne - need to get the contest right. They have one the inside 50 count 4 out of 5 games. Need to be better around stoppages that the practice match where they touched us up.

If that's the case I'd go a little smaller and use Draper as the FWD/Ruck - more athletic than OMac.. either way they'll be monstered by big Max so it's just a case of our mids reading Max's taps...

I was pleasantly surprised how well Darcy played off limited preparation.
He's never been so lean and fit looking and moved well.

When players like Darcy, Cox, Ryan, Pearce, Treacy are hitting their straps we're in good shape.
Chapman, Clark, Wagner, Worner are playing well and the forwards like Bolton, Reid, Freddy, Duds are all looking dangerous.

Once Jackson is back & we have some decent chemistry and synergy with the current lineup we're going to play good footy.
The signs are there.

What idea? Nobody has said he's a gun recruit. He's merely a decent depth option with the bonus that he can help in our pursuit of Pickett (their respective partners are sisters).

Agree, all the hard work is paying off for Darcy.

I am super keen to get a few of the injured players back. Need to strengthen peel, and put pressure on the best 23 to hold their spot.

Why do we need a forward/ruck? A defender is allowed to go chip out in the ruck too…

Instead of getting subpar forward play from McDonald, bring in Erasmus and rotate Young through the forward line more and watch him kick 5. Plus Erasmus should be playing deep forward anyway…

Agreed

Macdonald struggled to make any impact last week in the WAFL. Erasmus brings a running game and his form was reasonable.

Either him or Narkle who was clearly best on last week for Peel

If this is the option taken (and you can probably make a solid defence of that option), Banners playing taller and Ras playing more around the ball is more likely. I'm also curious about what Ras would do even just at Peel level if played more fwd, but tough to justify playing him fwd at AFL level when he hasn't played there since his first season (I think then his WAFL minutes were more mid-fwd).

So getting the thread back on track...

Draper forward with the second ruck chop out and OMac back makes sense to me. He could be a nightmare match up and also has shown more strength this season so shouldn't be moved around too easily.

The other worthwhile option is to bring a smaller running defender in and have Draper move forward.

I hope Murph recovers and gets up for the game. Would be fitting for him to kick three in his first game at the G!
I think we can use Draper in that role without bringing an extra tall in. We'll have more than enough height down back against Melbourne. the highlighted is more preferred option by a mile.

I see Fremantle using Treacy as a ruckman is like Carlton using Cripps in the same role.
Dangerous and unnecessary.
Treacy is too valuable an asset to be tinkering using him in a role other than a forward.
Maybe that is why McDonald has been sent over to cover Voss.

Agree, but I don't think the club does.

JL mentioned this week that he would prefer Treacy to stay forward, but there is no point doing that if we are getting smashed in the ruck.
