Prediction Changes: Round 6 Vs North Melbourne + Pre-match discussion

Team, with the game day thread only a few hours away and the sensitive nature of the topic, we are going to let this thread discuss all things do to with the game AND accept the fact not discussing politics would be difficult in this situation.

We will be lenient on political talk, however, it does not mean we’ll allow shitty twitter opinion posts from any South American fluffy horse-like creatures and it does not mean you can degrade / be rude to other posters (sarcastic or otherwise).

Now let’s all go enjoy the fact it is a long weekend discriminating variant and we can do essentially whatever we want tonight

Freo should have beat gws by 50+. Only inaccuracy stopped em. Same thing will probably happen here.

Watching North it felt like when you’re at the BBall courts shooting hoops with your 8 year old. They keep missing and you keep giving them back the ball until they eventually score. That’s literally what it was like viewing them against Geelong.

Did you listen to the radio covering the Peel game on the weekend? If so, and you trust the commentators a tiny bit, then you would not be wanting Blakely in.
From what I heard they were referring to what is generally believed about his kicking, not what was happening at the time, like what happens on here. Sometimes there is no refresh button. Mitzi said Blakely was getting a lot of the ball. The people that went and saw the game would have some idea.
There are other options. Giro may come in and rotate through the wings and Crowden and Aish spend some time in the middle. I just don't want all the inside work left to too few. And it is nice letting Fyfe roam a bit and not have to do all the grunt work. Whoever they pick will be fine with me. They have done a pretty good job integrating our better players back into the team. But having Acres and Aish as our extra rotations inside didn't work IMO.

Crowden should take the midfield minutes. Let him have a crack in there for the majority of the game and lets see what he can do. Keep Walters in his forward role, let him hopefully have a field day against North and get his mojo back in time for WCE.
Midfield minutes would be the best chance for Walters to work himself into form though. High high half forward maybe.

Treacey needs to be told to take the game on. Two or three times against the crows he could have backed himself but hesitated and at least once, calamity ensued. Just go for it, son.

Treacey couldn't make alot of contests throughout the game. I never expected goals from him as yet, i expected him to half a contest though.

I'm thinking Sturt to replace him.

Sounds like everyone is getting ahead of themselves , North has played well the last couple of games and shouldn’t be taken lightly.
Stay with our structures and hopefully the boys don’t have the same mindset as most of you do!

Agree with not taking the win for granted, but don't pretend North have played well the last few games. The Geelong game was horrible (both sides). Tried hard against Adelaide, but ultimately got flogged by 40 points against a side we just beat in Adelaide.

Yeah this. The last two times we've played them have been just about the two biggest floggings we've given out in recent years, and we've only improved since then whilst they've gone backwards. We should smash them

V Geelong it was 27 scoring shots to 12 and -21 inside fifties. That they lost by only 5 goals is a minor miracle. I mean we could still lose the game if they come to play and we don't, but they are not in improving form.

Yeah it's already been said but just for emphasis, we absolutely can't take them lightly but...

North are dreadful. They are GC or GWS 2010/2011 bad. % is 45. Their 5 goal loss on the weekend is the best they have done and even then Cats are ordinary and kicked a Freo like 10.17.

Do you think an opposition coach would leave Walters with a mid to low level defender if they are planning their defense against us?

Just like Treacy and Lobb draw a tall away from Tabs most of the time so he can be one on one inside fifty, Walters just standing in the forward line pulls an opponent away from the stoppage to guard him.

He is too talented.
They could stick a sack of potatoes with a tree branch sticking out of it the last 2 years, he'd still try and play for a free kick for high contact and get ignored because every umpire knows he plays for free kicks.
He doesnt draw the taggers or defenders anymore, thats a fact. Who has lined up on him the last 2 games? The 5th string midfielder that isnt getting touches in the previous game.

Their team on paper doesn't look like a 10 goal loss every week team, they have some good ins this week, and opposition sides tend to get geared up for the Len Hall match just as much as we do.
If we play near our best we'll win but if we get complacent we could be inviting trouble.
Their mature players:

Cunnington
Goldstein

Both very good players (at least historically - haven't watched them this year). Then it goes to

Zeibell is getting cheap kicks in the backline.
Hall
Atley
Turner
Walker.

That would be like us protecting our kids with
Mundy
34yo Sandi
Barlow playing half back
Wilson
Colyer
Suban
Tabs @ 23yo

We'd have gotten poleaxed every week. We had Fyfe, Neale, Mundy, Sonny and Shill and still got smashed during our rebuild.

Hall will be out with concussion you would assume.
Cunnington is a very good player, they bombed last year when he went out with his back issues.
We should win but JL needs to harp on bringing 100% so we are not complacent.
