Totally different tackling mechanisms. Footy players are trying to stop the handball and bring the player down. NFL players are trying to knock the shit of each other, you cannot exactly wrap your arms around most of those guys..

I agree in the fact that footy players should just whammo the centre/hips, the oppo is going to have a hard time handballing or kicking when they are eating dirt..
It’s not as different as you think; the basics are surprisingly translatable, and from watching a fair bit of American football (lived over there), the basics are the same if done right. Footwork, balance, focus on the centre of mass to avoid getting stepped, timing.

They are not translatable. Footy players are taught to 'corral' in the tackle, they do not drive with their hips through the opponent, they have different risks and penalties at play. If they were anywhere near the same, you'd see footy players driven into the turf and ruptured spleens..

Perhaps read what I said? The basics I listed are translatable (and frankly, the same), the bolt-on additions of what you do once you’ve caught the player are different. I’ve played both sports; learning tackling footwork and focus at rugby helped SO much with making great wrapping tackles at footy.

OTOH, Aussie rules body skills are handy but illegal in rugby 😂

Your now talking about Rugby for some reason?
