In: Hickey, assuming he’s fit, otherwise Brooksby
Out: Vardy

Nelson’s turn to carry the bags.

Considered Rotham for Schoey but I think Schoey’s a better match for Bruce.

B: Sheppard, Schofield, Hurn
HB: Cole, McGovern, Jetta
C: Gaff, Shuey, Masten
HF: Petruccelle, Darling, Cripps
F: Ryan, Kennedy, Ollen
R: Hickey/Brooksby, Yeo, Redden
I: Duggan, Hutchings, Sheed, Venables
E: Vardy, Rotham, Ah Chee, Nelson (travelling)

Makes sense to continue with the one-ruck strategy against St Kilda, who've been using Acres as the backup. Despite Simpson's comments about Vardy's performance, I think Brooksby is far more suited to going one-out if Hickey isn't available.

Don't think they'll make any other changes. No one other than Ah Chee really put their hand up in the WAFL. Waterman's played one game in the last three weeks so he's very unlikely to be called up.

Watching closely last night, they seemed to deal with the extra midfielder issue by starting one of them (usually Sheed) forward and sending him straight up to the stoppage to provide an extra number. It worked initially.

OUT: Allen, Vardy
IN: Ah Chee, Hickey (or Brooksby if Hickey isn't ready)

Allen needs a spell. 3 goals in 5 weeks and isn't doing anything in the ruck other than competing. I think a smaller forward line will do us good.
Venables extremely lucky to retain his spot but there aren't any other forwards putting their hand up for selection.

They wont drop Allen for Rioli when we still have Nic Nat to come in.

Its logical that Allen goes for Nic Nat as Allen is playing the pinch hitting ruckman/3rd Fwd.

Masten and Venables need to go for Rioli and someone else like
H Brayshaw(inj) Ainsworth(inj), Smith, Allen, Ahchee etc

Fair enough but surely we can question the effectivessness of his role?

Right now our midfield is really struggling at contests. Do we really have the luxury of playing a defensive linkman?

I would really like to ask the MC face to face about Masten's role and the importance of it.

It feels like we would people would rather drop Cole and Duggan before they drop Masten which boggles the mind.

Yes, every player in the side should be subject to a legitimate discussion as to whether they deserve their spot or there’s better options.

When you’ve got users posting wishes that Masten does a soft tissue injury just to get him out of the side, it’s pretty hard to argue that’s what’s happening.

As I said, if they drop him I couldn’t give less of a ****, but some things go so far beyond legitimate football discussion as to be a joke. Hoping and salivating over every mistake a particular player makes because you think it makes you right isn’t a healthy way to support a team.

And what do you do to get Petch, Ryan and Cripps to contribute? Carrying 3 blokes in one area of the ground is asking a lot.
Petch contributed last night, created chances but just didn’t finish.

Seriously, give it up.

Will likely need to get form and fitness in WAFL first too.

I don't hate Masten. I don't blame him either. He does not pick the team.

My primary frustration is with the MC.

Most of our woes at the moment are from the midfield. Yet we have not had a single midfield change that has not been forced through injury.

I get backing your players but surely there is a limit?

People were questioning Darling and Allen up forward. People questioning Cole and Duggan down back. Yet the midfield is never touched.

He was better than Ryan and Cripps, yes he fumbled a couple of times but really he was unsighted.
All 3 of them need to do a hell of a lot more and all 3 of them are invisible at the fall of the ball.
It’s not about knocking them or sticking up for them, it’s just simple footy basics they are not doing.

4 days ago running on an oval at Port Hedland. Hmmm 3 weeks away you reckon lols..
In for Demons no later Round 9.
But reckon hes a sneaky chance at Round 8 vs Stkilda. A bit further long in rehab than we are led to believe.

In Hicky/Brooksby Rotham
Out Vardy Cole

This hurts as his sponsor.
Spoiling Endgame and now dropping your sponsored player to the twos. What a week you're having

Masten will not be dropped . At throw ins he sprints to the opposite side of the ground he is a running wingman that links up . West Coast are a kicking team and need gut runners to make the ground fat and suit our kicking game . If you attend a match and have an elevated view you may see his role . So many insular comments about Masten by people who dont have a clue .

Out: Vardy, Venables, Masten, Ollen (rest)
In: Hickey, Ah Chee, Mallen, Waterman

If Waterman isn’t fit then let’s see what Brander can do as the 3rd tall.

All these people dropping Allen for Waterman
a) are being very optimistic since Waterman’s missed two of the last three games with hammy issues - might be overly risky to fly him across the country
b) should say what their plan is for a backup ruckman, because that’s Allen’s main role at the moment and there’s no way Waterman takes that over

Was Cole really that bad? I thought he was reasonable. Have a feeling he has become a whipping boy regardless of his performance.
I'm not saying this is the case for Cole, just a general thought. People see players mark the ball and then see a defender arrive late to the mark (Cole for example) and it sticks in their minds that he wasn't playing close enough to his man, he got lost in traffic, he isn't paying attention.

If it happens two or three times in quick succession it burns into peoples brains. There's many reasons he could arrive late though, it's impossible to defend a perfect pass unless you have enough top speed to actually reign in someone at full tilt and even then it's unlikely. He could be trying to defend a 2 on 1 slingshot goal and hedging his bets between the two players before finally committing to try make the opposition make an error. He could be coming off his man to cover for someone else etc etc.

My memory of Cole was him putting on some good side steps, creating space where others might have panicked.

Masten is the worst player in the line up and has to go. He is our McManus

Masten will go, but only when there's an adequate replacement. Who in the team currently can play his role? Who in the WAFL can?
