Strategy Changes: Round 9 Fremantle vs. Collingwood

I just don’t get the Voss selection from the team balance perspective.

I thought the strategy against Collingwood would be to try and run them off their aging legs.

If you were to rank Erasmus as a footballer what would you say are his strengths and weaknesses?

Pace - 4 out of 10.
Endurance - 8
Strength - 6
Tackling - 7
Skills - 4
Marking - 6
Decision making - 4
Awareness/peripheral vision - 3.

If he's sub you're taking away his greatest strength which is endurance, surely he starts and someone that can come on and provide a spark in Switta, Freddy, Dudley, even Cooper or Voss would be a better sub?
Erasmus needs to be told to stick to Daicos like glue… pinch, pull hair.. give him the full Ryan Crowley treatment.

$2 for Collingwood tonight is actually gold for punters. Mighty tempting

Our form at home has been pretty good, it just our away form is horrible.

I wonder if we are just missing Fyfe and Walters on the away trips. I would like for Fyfe and\or Walters to do the next few away trips with us, and see if it makes the difference.

There was a rumour that floated around that Mundy probably could have played on and Brodie was quite vocal that he should as he was learning a lot from him. Supposedly this put some noses out of joint and some in the club saw Brodie as a shit stirrer. Never substantiated but something that floated around for a bit.
Mundy should've played on another season - look at the Pies with Pendles and Sidebum.... instead we downgraded and got a sh*tter and slower option in O'Meara and the following season Brodie didn't get a look in. Either way, rumour true or not, it was bad list management.

His last season wasn’t great, and playing inside mid at 38 is extremely rare.

The real focus should be on succession planning for players.

I had a thought, maybe we could run Voss as the sub and sub out Darcy when he is gassed.

We are an extra tall anyway, so one less gives us more run. We rarely use it early unless there is an injury and one of our talls being injured is just as likely the way we are going.

The Pies are coming off a 5 day break so it would give us more run for 3 quarters compared to a runner for 1. Voss could also get on his bike in the last a fair bit.

We have dropped a tall in the back line, and added one in the forward line so we shouldn't be too bad, regarding number of talls, plus Jackson and Voss are pretty agile.

I have no issue with subbing out a tall half way through the third to bring in run. I think you pick on the day the tall that is having the least impact. (Ideally at half time, and then tell them to use all there energy in 10-15 mins before being subbed out )

There's Noone to swing the axe for lol

We would dish up a far worse team if we swung the axe
Is it worth sending the message - that not applying effort is unacceptable? We sacrifice this game so that maybe we get a competitive game out of some of these highly touted midfielders who went missing under the slightest application of pressure from Melbourne and Saint Kilda in future games.

I’d like to see murphyreid attending a fair few centre bounces tonight.

Want to see if that creative handball can translate into clearances

Let's settle for 30 possessions off half back, carving up the Collingwood zone. We need to save something for his next game.

Bloody hell their zone was impressive vs Geelong at least for the first half. It makes me scared just thinking about it.

Yeah we’re going to get flogged unless slowmuir gets the ****ing ball moving…

But having said that, we need to win the ball first.

So for all his faults last week he said we lost in the contest, but I’d be more specific and say we lost in the FIRST contest, then couldn’t move the ball

we lost the first, second, third contest.

never seen a team so comphrensively beaten at every loose ball, every contested ball, so consistently for an entire game.

surely we can not be as bad as we were historically smashed last week??

The age disparity for this game is quite incredible - four years younger (!!!!) on average and half the experience, and that is with Pendulbury not playing!

That is actually quite insane, tells me we're still struggling with our list management losses and some injuries, when we should be pressing this year.

I guess it highlights some of the logic of going after someone like Baker.

The 3rd fault is the ability to stop the opposition transitioning the ball end to end.

**** we were deplorable vs Melbourne, they always had one spare person allowing them to kick through our zone.

I don't think the 2nd and 3rd problems are a big issue at home. It was only really the bulldogs game when at home in the first half we got spanked in the middle, other than we have been ok.

If you want to look on the bright side, split our form between home and away, and we should be a good chance tonight.

We were terrible against Melbourne and then very good against Adelaide who were the best in the competition at it.
