The 3rd fault is the ability to stop the opposition transitioning the ball end to end.

**** we were deplorable vs Melbourne, they always had one spare person allowing them to kick through our zone.

I don't think the 2nd and 3rd problems are a big issue at home. It was only really the bulldogs game when at home in the first half we got spanked in the middle, other than we have been ok.

If you want to look on the bright side, split our form between home and away, and we should be a good chance tonight.
Yep. IMO the club has tried to improve the offensive characteristics of our forward line and with that our 'pressure' ability has dropped. The obvious change here is Switkowski's position needs to be upgraded as he doesn't kick goals, doesn't tackle enough and has lost any speed he might have had. It might be a simple as finding someone like Beau McCreery, nobody notices him but does a heap of work whilst others grab the headlines..

To be a regular top 4 side we need depth

Have a look at the Pies lineup today..Four guns rested and they still come up with a very competitive side

Hopefully when we move Fyfe , Walters Aish Jones and Sturt on Wallsy might be able to find us a couple of Mick Barlows or Wagner quality players from the lower leagues to add that depth

got a text from Freo re reselling my tix. Thought about it but then it could be JLo's last game so might go to see some history being made.

Me too. This reeks of club concern of a member protest of not attending this game and given Collingwoods huge fan base, they can camouflage member no shows.
There is a real chance Freo fans are outnumbered tonight.

Good call.

Howe, Allan and Markov are all good ins. Sullivan is a good experienced player as well. (Recruited as a tough 26 year old VFL players, and provides depth for collingwood)

We need to find a way to improve the 25th to 35th players on our list. A players like Sullivan can't hurt.

The game looks almost sold out. Would not surprise, if they thought it would be sold out so looking for any members not going so that can sell those tickets as well.

We were terrible against Melbourne and then very good against Adelaide who were the best in the competition at it.
Because they tried to play their way. Just as we did against Melbourne & Saints.

Our zone worked. The other 2 just kicked it to each other till they were out and we refused to change,

If it's not working, go man on man. Till you force them back, if they change then adapt.
To do nothing when what you're doing isn't working for 4 quarters goes beyond stubbornness into stupidity.

Sullivan is Brodie and Markov is Aish, they are playing their experienced depth while we don't. But hey at least we can make the excuse that we are too young.

Note: I am not suggesting that Brodie and Aish would make much of a difference just pointing out the fact that we have experienced depth that is similar to what the Pies brought in this week but we refuse to use them.

That “can’t make it” paragraph is on every text message. They’ve just forgotten to include the part where it says “your tickets are ready to download from the app”

If Aish and Brodie were in great form in the WAFL, I would be all for bringing them. Aish has fallen off a cliff, and Brodie has too many limitations and even his one wood has been poor this year.

Assuming Brodie does not play this year, we should delist him. Regardless of contract, he is waste of list space.

Makes you wonder about our fitness staff. We always look cooked.
Our problems have nothing to do with fitness. We're plenty fit. If you're chasing tail all game you're using more fuel than the side attacking.

We would immediately look a much better team if we were winning centre bounce like last year. Our cleanliness handling the ball has also been a massive issue. As soon as we have a slippery ball we can't handle it, fumble, pressure, lost contest.

The pressure factor on us is through the roof because our guys are constantly fumbling the ball.

They were not well prepared for the greasy conditions at Marvel last week.

Those Pies players aren't killing it in the VFL either btw.

Stats wise they look, but it is so hard to tell unless you watch the game.

Interesting, they all had a rest last week so they wanted them fresh for this week.

Ed Allan must be playing a lot more inside than what I thought. I will try to pay attention to him this week, to see 1. How he goes and 2. what role he plays.

Not sure smashing them on 40 degree days over summer is smart. It’s a marathon not a sprint would much rather a gradual build into the season especially for those at risk and older players.

Hi all, sorry for intruding, bit of a naive question from me (relating to my Supercoach, lol)

What's Erasmus' job security like, and where would he be predominantly played tonight? Strong likelihood of being sub by the way?

Cheers!

I don't think he will be sub today.

Nathan O'Driscoll is back next week, but I think he should hold his spot.

If he holds his spot, he should play until the bye (4 weeks), after are expecting more players back from injury.

Having said all that, I drafted him in my fantasy team, have now delisted him and don't plan on picking him back up unless 1. He plays well this week, and 2. He keeps his spot for next week.

His job security is poor unless we get more injuries. As soon as O'Driscoll (should be next week or two) and O'Meara (5 weeks away) are back, then Erasmus will be the first one turfed.

Don't think he will start as sub tonight (Simpson probably), but that's just a guess. If he is played in the middle he might be able to get his SC score up with contested possessions and tackles, but JL tends to put him in unsuitable positions like on the flanks, where he will float around with a few tackles and 15 touches with average efficiency.

Interesting - thanks all!! Much appreciated. Just weighing up whether it's worth while and whether the easy sugar hit from being on the bubble is worthwhile

That is actually quite insane, tells me we're still struggling with our list management losses and some injuries, when we should be pressing this year.

I guess it highlights some of the logic of going after someone like Baker.
Also a good reason to NOT drop Switta, whether he deserved it on form or not

If these guys (excluding Howe) were on our list, people would still be complaining about our depth. They aren't any better than our fringe players. It's the coaching that's the problem, plus a large injury list of decent players.

Pies are rolling out Cox, Membrey, Frampton, Hoskin-Elliot on top of the above. A few other average players. The team they have put put tonight is very beatable.

But I have zero faith we can actually beat them, considering what they have in stark contrast to Freo is an excellent coach, gameplan and winner's mentality/confidence/belief.

There injury list is the same size as our give or take 1 or 2 players. (Roughly 8 injured each - not counting the 4 rested)

Allan has been pushing for selection all year. Sullivan is probably the equivalent of Erasmus. I would think if we had 2 or 3 players pushing for selection, the depth issues would not be obvious. It just becomes super obvious when we have virtually no one ready, plus we pay more attention to our own team.
