They play on the postage stamp that is the SCG. Their mids just run out of the centre & have a ping.
I reckon if GWS had played them on the MCG their superior outside run would see a different result.

This is a classic example of "if a lie is repeated often enough it becomes the truth"

The SCG is 155m in length, compared to 160m for the MCG. That equates to a whopping 2.5m difference from the centre square to the goals - or of you prefer - approximately one Aaron Sandilands standing on his toes.

Now this game could easily go either way, but one thing is for certain - the length of the ground won't have much to do with the final result.

And only one metre shorter than the gabba.......
By actual surface area it is certainly not the lowest.

Very similar surface area to our home ground (SCG is shorter, but wider) and bigger area than Marvel, Adelaide Oval and Kardinia Park.

The camera angle contributes greatly to the myth. It is quite low compared to other grounds, and makes the action seem compressed.

Indeed - both Geelong and Adelaide have much smaller total areas that either the SCG or Manuka - which are often named as "small grounds".

That said, while the total length and width are very similar to the MCG, the SCG is a fair bit smaller in total area due to the shape of the pockets and wings - more of an oval than the rounder more circular MCG? I dunno how to explain it, 'tis one for the mafematical brainiacs on here like Paracleet or the newly freed up Snuffaluphagus to explain better than me.

Note too that this data for the SCG is after the redevelopment in the early 2010s. Before then the SCG set up for AFL really was much smaller - the 50m arcs touched the sides of the centre square. It got so bad that the AFL had the "arc" of the 50m altered for several years just to create a slight gap between the square and the 50.

I'd want to see the reading tape measure. Games at the SCG are awful to watch. Aesthetically they look so different to every other ground.

Basically it's this. People can't get their head around it's longer than it used to be.

Darcy didn't train, we surely aren't going to risk him

Give it's likely wet or soggy especially with that shit ground at the stadium atm - bring in another small or defensive mid

Maybe Raz to tag on half forward line?

For me

Out: Coops, Darcy
In: switta, Raz

I suspect there is not a calf issue and that the Darcy sub was pre-planned. Maybe they didn't want to sound like they were disrespecting Richmond by going ahead with the plan. I'll be super surprised if Darcy is not named and plays.
Also on Sydney, most of their damn team are elite kicks and slice up zones.. pressure is going to be key, they killed us this way last time they were at Optus.

No it is 100% a calf issue

Surely rain would suit us, with our bigger mids.

So long as we realise it is raining whilst the game is still in the balance.

I'm guessing you don't watch much Freo in the wet? At least not in the last 4.5 years?

Propaganda.

I had a kick on the SCG once and I can confirm I can kick goals from a kickout half way up the sticks. Ground is barely 40m total.

Really hoping you rest Sonny. No matter how bad he may be going, he always seems to play like All Australian v the swans. Cracking game coming up, real 50/50.

Definitely will be interesting to watch live in person when Sydney play Fremantle at SCG, in June.
Feels like the ground is wider and short? Always such an easy ground for long kickers- Gulden particularly loves it
