Changes v Adelaide, 20/5

So looks like Lobb on the wing has been planned for awhile. And O'Donnell will hold his spot, likely used as third tall forward. Think the club really rates his read of the ball, marking and athletic ability. Just need to find a way to get him more involved this week. Or actually kick to him when he is open.

Bruce confirmed to VFL. Probably no changes this week, maybe one.
Keeping JOD probably signals Lobb on the wing.

Not sure I'd go that tall in these conditions
He'll want Adelaide to think that, so that they'll plan their matchups accordingly. However I'm tipping some other sort of jiggery pokey from Bevo this week.

I still haven't ruled out McNeil in and JOD as sub, but whatever it is I doubt Bevo will pull the Lobb-on-the-wing stunt two weeks in a row. Too obvious and therefore too susceptible to countermeasures (e.g the Crows would try to burn Lobb with pace and agility).

Bevo will probably save that move for another game.

Can’t quite believe we seem to be going in with JOD again. Rapt with the signing but the kid is clearly not ready for AFL, he wasn’t on a list 6 weeks ago what’s the rush? Especially as a forward. Play Buku if you really want to run a Lobb-wing experiment

Side note slightly annoyed we want to go with a super-tall marking wing option now after English has spent most of the last 4 years getting monstered

Bevo paving the way for his ultimate ambition - a whole team of 190plus (ideally 210plus) monsters roaming the field wreaking havoc. Lobb and Sam Darcy are just the entree. The younger Darcys, Croft boys projected to grow to 215plus. I have it on good authority Bevo is driving a special breeding program with the holy grail ambition of winning every flag from 2040 onwards. By then, he'll start getting the offspring of Bruce and Keath through, with young Bonts, Lobbs, 4th gen Darcys on the horizon.
Not only will he revolutionise AFL, or even stop at global sport - he wants a master race to take on planetary representative teams across the galaxy.

Bahahahahaha!
Wait, I thought he hated talls?

I look forward to Bruce coming straight into the side this week and we go with a world record 9 genuine Key Position Players. Its a little nuts that our way of accommodating all of the talls in the side is by playing Lobb on a wing.

Im going to make a statement never made by a Western Bulldogs supporter ever.

We're too ****ing tall!

I understand the premise of Lobb to the wing for patches of the game but wouldn't Khamis be the perfect addition as the 'extra tall', not O'Donnell. Khamis is a significantly better forward and has the ability to swing back if needed.
Yeah but what's his outswinger like?

I’m all for this under the roof at Etihad, although we obviously looked better forward of the ball when JOD went off for McNeil too even at Etihad. But doing this in Ballarat would be crazy IMO - I really hope we don’t go that way again this week, it’s just a bit unnecessary when we’ve been working towards a pretty stable system over the past month or so which has been slowly gelling.

Trust Bevo to throw a spanner in the works and completely **** with everything just for the sake of it, stability has never been something he’s been overly keen on … 🥴

I don't mind the idea. Lobb's best asset is his tank. GWS used it to give him lots of time in the ruck, Freo used it to give him 100% TOG and rest other players. The problem is he's an ordinary ruck, and being able to rest other players is more useful for a young team than it would be for us. The original plan was probably to do that so we could fit Darcy into the side.

Most wingers will cover the ground faster than Rory but that leaves the risk he can sneak back forward like he did a couple of times against Carlton. The biggest plus is we don't have to be stuck with the structure. We can sub in a small at any time for JOD, or if a small is injured we can increase JOD's bench time and have Lobb back up to 95-100% TOG to go back to a normal structure. It just means that we have to be quicker to make the sub change than we have been so far.

Unless it's the double bluff!

Played 8 games at Mars stadium 5 wins 3 losses with 2 wins 1 loss against the crows. Feeling reasonably confident about this one I do not think The Bont will have 2 quiet games in a row.

Atleast Billy Frampton isn't playing this time. Swear he took about 10 intercept marks that day.

The JOD selection again is a real head scratcher. Good luck to the kid. I just hope Bevo pulls the trigger on the sub early if it's not working.

Lobb on the wing could be handy this week given the wind generally favours the one end. Having that extra tall clogging up their forward line, then having that extra marking option when we kick with it.

If it's wet then I don't really see the benefit at all.

Need to play the NSW and WA teams there for once. Mix it up.
We play GWS there later this year. The Swans have pretty decent support in Melbourne and financially it makes more sense to play them at Marvel.

Part of the tourism hook is based on getting the SA fans to drive across as its 90 minutes closer than Melbourne though I'm not sure that many do.

Fair point on the Sydney part. And I reckon the WA teams won't get a look in, because of the much extra travel required for them. Cannot see the AFL making them fly to Melbourne, and then almost a couple hours on a bus to Ballarat. Though it would be nice for the local crowd to see new opponents now and then.

Pencil in the new Tassie team to play at the Igloo!

Got GA tickets for the game and never been to Mars. What's the standing seats like you just make your way round the ground? Assume also there is nowhere to escape the rain haha

There are bench seats up against the fence but those go early so have to be there quite early.

There use to be a hill for standing but most of that is now taken up by concrete steps and platforms to sit on
